Welcome back to my workshop😁
In today's video i finally got a chance to do a job that i have been trying to do for ages, and that is to make a bandsaw sled.
I've had one on my table saw for years but now want one on my band saw to make my life easier.
As usual i will make it out of all kinds of reclaimed wood so it wont cost me a penny.....happy days 😁
I hope you enjoy this quick build video.
Thanks for watching 😁👍.

  • A block on the bottom of the sled to prevent the saw from cutting the back fence would be handy/useful.

    • 😁 That would be a good addition but I will need to add that in if I make another one. To add it to this one I would either have to move the back fence forward or increase the depth of the base, either way It would be easier to make a complete new one. Thanks for watching John 😁👍

  • Since building my bandsaw crosscut sled, I cannot believe how frequently I use it. Much much easier than my table saw crossscut sled for smaller parts and safer if you keep your fingers back out of the way.

    • 😃 100% agree. Its quicker and simpler than setting up the tablesaw, and feels safer to me. Mine has some battle scars now so may need to re-make it soon. Thanks for watching Mark 😁👍

    @InTheWorkshop@InTheWorkshop4 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks David 😁. The stop block works better than I expected considering it was an after thought. I think you would need to design some kind of "drop on" frame for your tablesaw (I don't think it has the runners) 🤔. So possibly an external frame that locates securely on the table and then the sled could run on that !!! I'm sure you would come up with an ingenious solution. Thanks for watching David. Stay safe 😁👍.

  • G’day mate, I’ve never seen a sled made for the bandsaw like a conventional table saw sled design but it looks like it’s going to work, it’s a challenge with the blades to avoid any sort of drift, nicely thought out 🎥🔨👍🍺

    @sumosprojects@sumosprojects3 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks Dirk 😁. This works a treat 😁. I mainly use it for quick fine cuts on smaller items (I.e. stuff that's too small for the tablesaw) so I don't really see any drift 😁. I normally set my blade just forward of the centre of the top tyre on this bandsaw and with a decent blade I don't get any significant drift 😁. Thanks for watching Dirk, stay safe mate 😁👍🇬🇧

  • Wonky check works great as long as the edges of the test piece are parallel. A safer practice would be to check for wonky from the side that was against the fence. A reference edge in woodworker speak.

  • I just recently got a band saw and have been wanting to make a cross cut sled for it. I'm glad mine has the runners. I bought this model for that and the bigger resawing capacity. I love your sled design. I feel you wasted time from 10:43 to 12:40. Just put your square on your sled and square it up with your cut line and the fence, then clamp and screw. I love the size of your sled over the smaller ones everyone else is building. The stop block is like the icing on the cake. I may even add a tape measure for respective cuts. Thumbs up and new sub here. Keep up the great work.

  • What a great idea and you made it easy to follow and very understandable, unfortunately, my bandsaw working table only has 1 runner slot to the right of the blade, but it does have a basic fence that I can attach to the table, I wonder if I could use the left edge of the working table to butt up a type of runner? BTW, you earned a new subscriber ;)

      @wildinthestreetswithheld8573@wildinthestreetswithheld85733 жыл бұрын
    • @@wildinthestreetswithheld8573 Hi, mine is fine. It is a speed square so is mainly used by the building trade for framing etc. If you want "square square" use a propper engineers square (metal one). This Stanley Square is more accurate than I can cut and flatter than I can sand, so for me it a good tool for general projects. Hope this helps 😁👍

  • What a weird way to go at squaring the back board!! Why didn't you just start with the square on the kerf and align the back board to that????

    @LarryBloom@LarryBloom Жыл бұрын
    • I really appreciate that he took the time and effort to record, edit, and upload the video. The overall design is simple, practical, and a big improvement over a miter gauge for 90 degree cuts. Extra points for explaining an additional solution for saws that only have one miter gauge slot. That being said, there were a few head-scratchers with the techniques, and the weird squaring procedure definitely deserves a bit of constructive criticism. Also, when he did get it "square," there was a lot of light showing under that reference square on the end of the board. You can get better results without even having a reference square if you just flip your offcut over after the cut and butt the two sides of the fresh cut together. If there's any error, it will be doubled and the pieces will show a clearer gap when aligned along the fence.
