Do you temper your steel at all, or does it stay at full hardness right out of the quench?
Lol fake wootz. Call it what it is. Doesn't look close to pics of actual wootz blades.

@@Channel-th6yz Wootz is crucible steel. Taking iron and adding high carbon material and melting it into a billot. Removing slag or impurities through smelting or forging. Using traditional materials like wrought iron and bamboo is not practical with our current advances in steel and manufacturing. The video is not claiming a patterned Damascus blade like many KZheadrs are doing. This is a modern take on traditional wootz. You can clearly see the pattern of high/low carbon steel @13:00 into the video. Overall very nice craftsmanship in the build.
Absolutely gorgeous! I love the kiridashi I got from you a year or so ago... Worth every cent! Thank you!
Beautiful video -as a glass worker I'm totally motivated to work with metal now.
The best part of this content is the 10+ minutes of Zero words being spoken. Only artistry in action. Take note youtubers, this is how it is done.
Just watched another fellow make a kiridashi using the cut from stock process, which gives you a nice looking blade that might just snap. The amount of forging that this blade has gone through would lead me to trust it a lot more than a factory blade. I messed around with blacksmithing for about three months in the 80s, and I know that I didn't learn much of anything about the art, but I have more respect for the guys who can make their own tools than the ones who buy from a catalog. Skills, they still matter.
Please take my money, I want that knife! that is pure genius.
👍🍻
Irigylem a tudását Uram! Csodálatosan szép késeket készít. Nagyon kedvelem a videóit!
Absolutely beautiful. I love the design. I sooo need this in my life
What a gorgeous thing. Beautiful simplicity!
I love that knife, will have to make one! I'm using a thin-bladed "Viking" knife beveled on 1 edge for my bench knife, exactly the opposite of the kiridashi. A sharply pointed blade can be used for small, delicate work yet still cut large items too. That's why I like the Viking (seax) and kiridashi style.
I made one of these from an old table saw blade to use as a marking knife for woodworking.
this is one of the most beautiful pieces of cutlery I've ever seen.
You the only person that made rebar damascus. Thank you.
Adorei! Parabéns pelo trabalho. 🇧🇷
É o que macho?

I don't even like knives that much but watching them being made is absolutely fascinating, top content.

It is an outstanding achievement that the lost recipe for this material has been recovered. I also like how it is hand-marked. This means every knife will be a little different from any other.

Wonderful knife, loved I was able to see its elaboration, great artistic job !
I would patronize if I could, because your method is clean and what you produce is awesome, the Damascus drawn from the rebar, truly spectacular. Thanks for the showing.
Thanks 👍

I've never seen this style of knife making, fascinating.....
I really like the shape of the knife. Well done. Are you using charcoal of coke for smelting?
anthracite coal
Does anyone know what the three micronized substances that were put in the crucible after the rebar were? I assume one of them is flux to remove impurities but not sure about he other two?
Crushed glass, graphite, and iron powder specifically 1095 powder
@@therealbeaston thank you!
Bonjour Monsieur. Magnifique travail. Vous êtes un artiste !!!
You make a lot of cool things with wootz, but have you ever made wootz using the offcuts from a bunch of different projects? I'm curious if the alloy that would create would be good for knives, and really curious if how the patterning would look after etching. Thoughts?
I would like to see that video.
Me as well
Same
Yes
As he was using the angle grinder to cut off material for handle area I had nearly the same thought. If not to layer, maybe to use some in-between layers of a "known" content steel, to turn out a billet.
