How ironic that Mourinho coined the term, but he wasn't talking about his own team!
he basically argued like a 4 years old child and people thought he was so cool i never understood the hype over the guy. he's a great manager tho but his personality isn't as amazing as people make it out to be
@@ashadowintime7305that's why he is the special one 😅
@@ashadowintime7305 ppl like to see something unusual, they were tired of these boring managers and players, so when jose came that was something really "fresh", despite the fact he was really acting like a 4 years old child sometimes
He did refer to his 2010 inter team as "park the bus" following their famous 1-0 loss to barca
Mourinho's teams loved parking the bus.
so you too watched the video.
@@i.theworstguys298 I did. But, you obviously didn't. Considering the video was about Mourinho accusing Spurs of parking the bus.
@@i.theworstguys298the video talked about Mourinho complaining about *other* teams (Sp*rs in this case) parking the bus. But His teams were also guilty of that (I'm thinking primarily their 2012 champions League win).
@@jameswright4732Mourinho didn’t manage Chelsea in 2012💀
@@i.theworstguys298 d'oh!
It has been a very used Portuguese expression for decades before Mourinho translated it to english, which was merely what he did.
Right, and in Spanish too.
Exactly, the next video on this series explains how Al Gore invented the internet.
Same as in dutch
Estacionar o ônibus?
So he popularized it?
Fun Fact: If you don't know, 2004 is also the year Greece won the historic Euros in Portugal. They did this by doing the "park the bus" thing under Otto Rehhagel against big teams like France and Portugal!
But they had Charisteas who was on another level to every other striker in the tournament, but unfortunately he couldn’t make it work in club football afterwards.
Germans make the best managers
I keep seeing Otto Rehaggel doing miraculous things with unfavoured teams. He must have been a special coach.
The penalty that young Cristiano Ronaldo conceded in the opening match was on our right back, Giourkas. The assist on the goal against France was provided by Zagorakis who, due to injuries was also playing as a right back at that match. You can believe that we "parked the bus" all you want, but I've never heard of a team playing that way and also having the RB in the opponent's area, especially while winning the match.
@@darthraider450 Several under appreciated players on that team. Dellas was a leader in the defense. Then you also had great players as Karagounis, Seitaridis and Katsouranis. They definitely had the quality to punch above their weight class
Jose became the very thing he swore to destroy 😂
And he took inspiration for it and said “I can do that one better” And many times he did
This has been a common expression in Spanish (and probably Portuguese, as Mourinho brought it up so naturally) for ages.
brits don’t know a lot about the sport they themselves made up
Which is why Joe said he brought it into the English vernacular not that he invented the phrase.
When Ancelotti or Simeone does it it’s considered defensive masterclass
Tbf if everyone could do it successfully. Everyone would
I don't know if in Portugal is the same but parking the bus in Italy was in use well before 2004, is a term commonly used since I have memory.
Are you referring to Catenaccio a form of parking the bus ?
@@SeriousBartYT is more of a colloquial thing between fans than a tactic but of course Italian defensive mentality like the catenaccio helped to give it birth.
@@matthewlevine2159 the video is talking about the term "parking the bus", in italy many obviously already played that way but mourinho created this name to say it
@@giovanji7883 what I mean is he made it know. I remember everyone using parking the bus in the 90s in Italy as a normal way to describe a very packed defensive line. I'm curious if in Portugal they had the same way to tell it and Mourinho imported it in England! Spain, Italy and Portugal are very similar in many ways, I just find it funny because is a term that I've heard so many times as a child that I thought was always been a universal thing
It is also known in Spain and Spanish-speaking countries since before 2004. I'm pretty sure in Portugal and Brazil as well.
The Special One was annoyed that the opposition stole his tactics.
di matteo won a champions league with chelsea this way.
That's not true! Di matteo played expansive football throughout the tournament. Dominated barcelona through large spells of both legs
@@HamsaT12 Lies, they literally did that, and were very effective on the counter. Barca dominated everything, but goals scored, yet you come here lie like we forgot.
@@HamsaT12 Di Matteo took over during the KO stage, and he didn't do that. Why are you lying? They only did well in the return leg vs Napoli. What drugs did you consume? 😂
@@HamsaT12 dude, Chelsea had 27 % possession and way fewer shots in both matches. There’s no reason to lie
Di Matteo played lowblock and counter which is parking the bus
Tifo never miss!
If I remember correctly Mourinho had also forgotten to bring his black and decker. Brr brrr brrr
Bro😭how is Mourinho mad
Ironic that Tottenham parked the bus against Chelsea given Tottenham are known for attacking football and Chelsea are known for defensive football
Its 2024 whos watching this beast of a song
So he coined the term and it was used to describe him later on😂😂
lol, i remember when he coined the term, pundits discussed it at length and then everyone was saying it!...damn, i'm old. 😔
Doesn’t work in FM24 match engine paradigm 🤣
All these simulators work like a Japanese RPG, the numbers are more important.
We need a tifo video about comunicado oficial and tucheliban asap
Inter Milan knocked Barcelona out of the Champions League 10 years ago with Jose Mourinho's bus parking tactics..😂 they defended one third of the field, leaving Diego Milito as one striker
I see this more as looking for the penalties tactic. Helped a lot in the world cup.
Mourinho just frustrated a team doesn't want to run into a counter attack while he parks the bus himself.
I always thought that quote was Arsene Wenger talking about Mourinho
Mourinho: “I hate this and I’m going to do it all the time.”
Wow I bet 300 years from now people will still talk about 'parking the bus' as a tactic it's definitely here to stay.
Real Madrid moment all his history XXI Century
Funny how he ended up doing the same himself eventually and was hated for it. 😂
We all knew this, we just wanted to see how Tifo would tell us about it.
It's a very international expression. Where I'm from, at the turn of the century it was already so frequent that a coach innovated by saying replacing "bus" with "an entire lot of parked buses" ("au parcat autobaza")
I know that saying for decades here in Portugal and Mourinho said it in english.
Ted Lasso would be so proud
that phrase has been used in South America for ages
Spurs are the official inventors of the phrase “park the bus”.
Only in England it's a term used before then by the Portuguese
Who would've thought the term came from Mourinho but not for the one parking the bus?
It didn't though he just repeated the popular Portuguese/Spanish term in English
Mourinho complying about parking the bus lmao
It's been an expression for much much longer than that. Just like "gung ho"
Diego Simeone's haram ball pioneered it
City just lost to Madrid due to this park the bus tactic
And Mourinho ended up being the biggest bus 🚐 parker of all time. Haram football specialist.
Fun fact: Catenaccio existed 90 years ago, look it up.
He never claimed that he invented the tactic all he said was that he popularized the phrase “parking the bus”
@@heros03 Terms....tactics....nothing under the sun is new.
Esa frase se usa en sudamérica desde hace decadas
Tifo: Fact, Mourinho popularised the term ‘park the bus’ using it about Tottenham. Everyone: It’s about Mourinho’s teams…..
96 look like Salamanca in breaking bad
It’s a direct translation from Portuguese
Yeah, when your attacking team sucks, you just parking the bus.
Its also called Haramball.
It wasn't Mourinho, parking the bus has been a common expression in Spanish for ages.
Ohhh the irony 😂
That phrase is waaaay older... We have used it in Latin America for decades.
Uhh...I'm brazilian and I've never heard of that phrase before the new millenium
The Special One
The bus ☺️😩
And then he took a particular liking to it
People need to clean their ears. Especially if they speak English well. Tifo never said I came up with the expression, he said he 'popularized' it. Made it world known.
Mourinho is football heritage
He liked ot and started doing it himself
And then that's all he did when he was the coach at Spurs. Much to our detriment...
Mourinho
Everytime United play Liverpool, Unuted always parks the bus.
MOYES
Spurs had chances to win that one too.
I don't believe in parking the bus. It's football suicide. A team always needs both a defensive pivot and an attacking focal point. Defending in numbers may happen, but you need chance creation.
Right but parking the bus in any sport isn’t about only defending. If you’re leading a game with very little time remaining you can park the bus. It’s a good strategy
A clown is a clown is a clown
And then he arrived at N17 just to park it lol 😂 I love Jose but that was a few weird seasons with him. He's still way better than Conte
Based Mou
ironic from Mourinho
Nah bro you eliminated a LOT OF PEOPLE
Ironic…
This is football from the 19th century...
😢
It's not just used in English football terms, I have heard it being used in Russian, Uzbek, Arabic, and others
He truly is special.
Poorinho
EVERY team just stacks against man utd, easiest way to play against us. such a joke
Chelsea
The greatest of all time Mourihno
Real Madrid just showed a masterclass in Parking the bus. Disgraceful!
Real madrid yesterday
And years later Klopp would do the same 😂
When did klopp ever park the bus
Klopp is the complete opposite of that, no?!
0 ball knowledge
If anything, Klopp parked the bus in front of the opposition's goal.
Awful shame he adopted that philosophy himself
That a Portuguese expression
Actually it's and old football expression in Portugal
Yeah, but it only came to English football vocabulary, when José sayed it
Ironic that he coined the term complaining about another team doing it.
