August update: Zverev is olympic gold medalist for the Gentlemen Singles and Bencic is olympic gold medalist for the Ladies Singles... not too bad!
Yes I immediately had to think of that too. While Angie and Roger are the GS champions they don't have gold in singles, "only" silver and Belinda and Sascha have no GS but now olympic gold.

It's incredible this was an "exhibition". I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Look at that great crowd. Hopman Cup had such good will and such a fun way to start the season. Miss it.
Angie was the star of the show. She went toe to toe with Federer many times and won!

You can see here two types of men - Roger being a gentlemen, believing in Belinda and literally letting her play and win, and Zverev - reaching for every single ball, ignoring Angie, a grand slam winner and normally, ending up with a loss.
Thats the thing about mixed tho. Not sure if hes played with her before, but he’s obviously the better player by far so he’ll be more confident with himself

It's all about being crafty when it comes to mixed doubles. Not about power, not about pace etc. Aaand Angie is a three time grand slam champion.

i think bencic and roger work really well together. A lot of encouragement from each other and lots of communication.
This was the best tournament ever. The energy is unlike anything I've ever watched, and the tennis was phenomenal.
It's a shame it's no longer in Australia. The Hopman Cup has always been a fun tournament.
Match point at 4-4 in the tie break is stupid. It should have been at least two point differential, to make it a clear and deserved win. Great and fun match anyway

I disagree. As a rule, yes, but I'm happy to have seen a point played that was a championship point for both teams. It was unbelievably tense.
I think the whole point of the Hopman Cup was to be different. Something between a proper tournament and an exhibition one.
But the shared match point turns up the intensity a lot

Always a problem in mixed he probably hasnt played with her enough. She can have 10 grand slams but hes still the better player

@@tyler_7749 yeah I meant in this match, sorry if that wasnt clear. But really in doubles in doesnt matter who is better or who is not but teamwork, and Zverev showed a very piss poor display of teamwork in this match.
I think it's noteworthy to mention the Germans' dejected disposition when they miss a point. Their body language. Coaches spend a lot of time emphasizing to their students the importance of shaking off bad shots and forging ahead. Naturally much easier said than done but in doubles it's very common to see players uplifting their partners especially after lost points. I thought it was noticeably different with Zverev/Kerber. Or was it just me?

Not watched much mixed doubles but that was one of the best games for enjoyment i've seen.
Mixed doubles is so much fun to watch.
Very privileged to have watched Roger play since his career began...he will be missed...I hope he stays in the game somehow for a while longer (doubles and mixed)
I was there watching live tennis in Perth. Its one of the most enjoyble tennis matches ive ever watched. It was even better watching it again on tv with the ups and downs in the match. In the end it was down to a single last point to determine the champion and the Swiss had it. Thanks to all the 4 players for making the match so enjoyable. That was the last match of the Hopman Cup

Even aside from those great points, that was also a great return performance from Kerber against Federer. She got aced just once, made every other return and made Federer play low volleys off most second serves. No wonder Serena had problems with her.

45:05 Zverev pissed because that wasn’t him producing such a great shot.
I also thought he wasn't playing very fluid as a team. I saw at least 2 points where he just "commanded" the ball. Kerber was clearly put off as she wasn't even bothered to switch sides. She was like, "here do it all yourself" which he thought he could do. He's not a natural doubles player and especially not mixed as his ego got in the way of good doubles play.
Angie is Legend. She could win many GS. But poor little Sasha didn't believe her. His GS win=0 ^^

Roger is a normal guy, encouraging his teammate, showing leadership. Maybe it's different with Zverev because Kerber is older and more experienced than him, but he doesn't seem to be great at giving her confidence and positivity.
Why should he have to do that? Maybe Kerber should step up and show leadership and encourage her teammate?
