  • The dovetails are an illusion. The point of the puzzle is to make you assume the dovetails go straight through and that they're all 90 degrees perpendicular to each other. The parts actually slide apart on a diagonal. The little marble is just there to lock the puzzle temporarily. :)

  • Mr. Puzzle, do you do requests? About 30 years ago, I was given the opportunity to play with a big puzzle called the Porcupine (or something similar). The idea was to remove a wood circle captured in the middle of this thing by carefully turning sticks and pushing/pulling on them in order to release that circle. The puzzle was truly captivating because I assumed that the solution backtracked over the sticks/rods. Although I never solved it (it wasn't mine), I still would love to see it solved today. I can't find it anywhere on the internet, perhaps you know a fellow puzzler who might? I promise it would make a great video, especially if you draw out all the dependencies, etc.

  • The main, outside the box idea here, is that the continuation of the dovetail inside the box doesn't have to be perpendicular to the surface, but can exist in a slanted direction creating common rails. The ball and magnets are the second idea, how to block the two parts from slipping naturally, and make think that the dovetails are the ones blocking any movement. The second one is more of a trick, but a necessary one.
