I have a few extras if you want one: www.unnecessary.co/products/the-hokpeg
Ordered! I've been looking for the perfect chair for my garage workspace for far too long!
You might want to have the back as a double walled version so the pegs do not poke your back or at least some form of cushion to dampen the pokiness of the pegs. It could also hold the pegs more solid as well. When it comes to the seat it would most likley be a bit uncomfortable with a flat hard surface. It needs to be either cushioned or have a shallow depression that forms around your but like many metal and better quality wood chairs have. It looks awsome other then that. I wish the shipping to Sweden where I live wasen't so much. I can just hope IKEA might take it up in their stores hopefully with the alterations I suggested 😀
Where did you get the unnecessary jumper made from?
Make an extremely protective phone case with cushion in it, not heavy, display is also protected, the lip size will be like phones bezel size, maximum protection
Bro you should change it up… why not make aesthetically pleasing useless inventions.. upmarket useless inventions.. useless inventions that look so good it could be sold in high end stores 😂😂😂
You should have cut out notches that would fit the SKADIS peg board accessories. IKEA can't say no to that.
Yeah! I was thinking the same thing! It annoys me that it doesn't match u with their other pegboard products.
Yea, seems like a big swing and a miss on that one
He probably didn't do that becuase they may have trademarked or patented that design?
@@Curiouscrazy Probably. If he made it, he would be putting up a fight with IKEA instead of a possibility of a collab. Now Ikea can come and say "hey... I have an amazing idea".
SKADIS is actually standard size to match all other pegboards. Almost all pegboards are 2"x2" so it will work!
The chair looks really cool and useful, but also really uncomfortable to sit on... it is indeed a perfect mix
Yeah, I agree.
Bruh moment.
my legs feel numb just looking at it
I also think so.🙋
One can just add a pillow, no?
if you add an unnessecary amount of holes on the underside where you’re sitting you could have interchangeable cushions that pop in place as well as under chair hangies
Yeah like crocs gibbits
E
Yeah..🤖
@@hal_jordan2814 hmmmm
A revision could be the back being doubled walled to make it stronger and keep the pegs from stabbing you. Have the back follow 2 90 degree bends to keep it one solid sheet.
Came to say that the pegs stick through... I see great back scratching, or really bad back scratches...
Also think it is a shame that he didn’t use ikea’s peg board system (has different shaped cutouts for the pegs).
To add to that revision: choice to have cushioning or not. If you want cushioning, you basically attach it to the opposite side of the pegboard. Otherwise there’s a thicker metal sheet to attach to the pegboard instead of the cushions.
😅😅 by
I came here to say the same thing. Instead of a double walled seat back, what about just a snap on seat back that slides over the very top and provides a sturdy, solid seat back?
IKEA got one basic design rule and you didn't take that in to consideration. You can't flat pack this thing! Cost saving design is everything. I visited the IKEA museum this summer, btw. Älmhult Sweden
What you saying is true. But when you look at the other low cost ikea office chairs, you find out that actually the top is sold separately as one piece that is not flat packed, so I don't think it's gonna be issue
Interesting. You are correct! @@falling_homer
The back could be made into two pieces that interlock, but I don't know how much strength would be lost doing that.
@@falling_homeras long as the tops can stack is what I've noticed! They have a lot of molded seats that aren't flat pack but they still can be shipped efficiently because they stack
There's probably a standard part number for the part they use to connect chair seats to chair backs, which would let you flatpack them both.
Can you invent a smoke alarm that turns itself off when you say "I am just cooking"?
That is far too necessary
Why not invent a smoke alarm that knows you are cooking as you switch it off
Continue the pegboard holes to be on the bottom of the chair as well. Then IKEA can sell cushions in multiple colors which click into the pegs for both the bottom and backrest. Benefits: 1) IKEA likes to sell accessories for their products nowadays, cushions are a good option. The peg mounting would both keep them in place and make it easy to remove or switch out. 2) the peg holes on the bottom would hide the screw holes used for the base (assuming you're not using a cushion). 3) cushion on the backrest will protect your back from being jabbed by pegs. 4) You can hang things off the bottom of the chair, reachable when you're sitting in it.
Also, what if you could hang stuff like little baskets on the side
Ikea would be the perfect company for your puzzle piece coffee table, provided you could convert your various attachments to be flat-packable. As for the chair, I think it needs two things. A seat, which can act as a screw cover, and a back pad that can both cover the pegs and hold them more securely while you're sitting in the chair.
It’d be great if it had a simple square cushion on the seat and back for some quick and simple comfort.
Ikea will gladly sell you a cushion form AND zipper cover of your choice - for a few dollars more! 😂
I came to comment the same thing 😂
Oh heck yeah. If they made an Ikea Skadis version of this I'd totally get one of these.
Was thinking the same, missed a trick not using their rack system!
SKADIS compatibility and a backwards-mounting pad for the chair would be great for this. There's probably also a standardized IKEA part for joining a chair base to a chair back, so that would let you break the whole thing down for flat-packing and cheaper manufacturing.
Unnecessary Inventions x IKEA The collab we didn't know we needed
yeea
You could even say it's unnecessary
I would add some armrests w/ peg board or peg board parts going down on the side, because when the tools are on the back you'd probably have to get out of the chair to grab them. With having some extra peg space on the side, you can have the advantage of all of the storage on the back, but have your most used tools easily assessable on the side
As a furniture maker try the seat back angle between 15 and 17°. Also to make it easier to use maybe add arm rest that double as a peg board. You could make the whole thing look like mine crafty design very square.
🤔
I believe that when he rest on the back it flex to 16degree
@JeromeDemers you might be right good point!
Everybody says that you should put on some cushions so I am gonna say something different: try removing the chair wheels with small, rubber, scooter wheels. It improves the experience of moving with the chair.
nice
I liked my comment
I like the idea but it definitely needs a bit more work. The back could be doubled up so you don't have to lean on the pegs sticking out. Also a bit of cushioning or even just a more rounded end bit where your legs are. As it is now it looks like a really sharp edge that's probably not fun to sit on for a while. Overall it's a great idea though and I could see this work well in a lot of people's workshops.
I love when unnecessary becomes necessary! The only issue I see with this design is the back is not flat-packable, which is very important for Ikea.
It was very interesting when unnecessary thing becomes necessary.😇
Humans : wow matty i like uour inventions ! Other living creatures : FiRsT !
I like this channel because it goes through the design processes more in-depth.
Have you considered adding folds to the metal to add for rigidity instead of thicker metal? Also as mentioned in the comments, having a cushion for the back and stool would be really nice, and would also hide any additional assemblies that potentially allow you to flat-pack it for shipping.
I would 100% purchase this IF there were some holes in the bottom, so I could thread through one of the iconic IKEA pillows. Probably would thread one through the back as well, to ensure I wouldn't feel the pegs. Alsooo, would be even cooler in their new bamboo style!! :)
Here’s an idea, make the back with two plates with hinges on one side. Tools then could swing around to wear you can grab them seated, but you could give a little push and it swings back around behind you and magnets in place. Plus this way, hooks would be between two back plates.
It might look a little uncomfortable but if you chuck a BORTBERG across the back for lumbar support and a JUSTINA on for padding… you got yourself the worlds most comfortable unnecessary work station.
Adding a seat and back cushion would be nice. And you could use the pegboard holes for mounting it.
I really honestly hope this gets produced because I work in a tiny closet sized office and this would work amazingly for my setup!
Why didn’t he bought the chair / stool parts from Ikea in the first place? To buy at Amazon was total unnecessary !
You need a slight curve or cushion in the seat so it doesn't cut your circulation when you're sitting and then maybe a second cushion or double thickness on the back to stop the Peg's from stabbing you
Great Thumbnail and video! Every time i watch a unnecessary inventions video it gets unnecessarily better.
A way to upgrade it is to add panel with holes to the sides so that you can have quick access to some tools without having to get up
I love the idea 💞 really cool chair!! Would be perfect to use for my art!
uneccessary ikea
Bruh
Ikeas
Infinite ikea
That’s very redundant
Ikea
Aaaw! As a Swede i would be HONORED for you to be the next designer for a collecton! I would go and BUY👏🏻IT👏🏻ALL👏🏻
I'm just impressed you're able to do cad work with a trackpad
Thank you for being the reason I smile. Thank you for being you. Thank you for brightening my world.
I always wonder are you working in that massive beautiful office space by yourself?? It gives me home alone vibes haha
Due to the pegboard design, you could make a cushioned plate which attaches to the holes on the back, which would make the chair more comfortable. Also, with different "inside" back rests, the chair would be infinitely moddable regarding ergonomics...
If you do more, I'd suggest countersinking the holes in the seat base and threading the screws though the other direction towards the wheel base - would look a lot cleaner.
This could be handy as hell! Even not as a chair but a little mobile bench top with tool holders!
Making like a pegboard that you can attach to the chair so you don't need to get up to reach your tools seems like a better idea.
I would thicken up the metal sheeting along with maybe and that new chair bottom, you could also put a little faux leather or padding for the back and seat for comfort
Dude you literally created the best chair ever
I absolutely love your gear room though I would call it the tool room. Great invention and loved how the extra back weight didn't affect the balance of the chair. I really hope Ikea does pick your chair as one of the new lines they sell, though I thought you might make a cushion attachment for the back of the chair so you're not leaning against the pegs and as an option for buyers, have a double base which could hang things from too. Also thought you needed another person to have chair races against in your luxury studio :)
looks great. a suggestion i would give you would be that the screws that hold the base to the chair could be flat head screws that are countersunk. but great job on the chair
You are growing fast!
IKEA is gonna build a chair out of you buddy
It's perfect for small workshops with no/little wallspace! Exactly what i need!
great vid Matty, fingers crossed on the Ikea collab
If you anodized the chairs it would've looked so cool!
Now, add a mounting mechanism to put a squishy on the back so your back isn't torn up by the mounts for the tools :-)
Those pegboards are a thing of beauty.
a second layer on the back would help make that actually comfortable as a chair instead of a weird stool
If you want to really cut costs on the top half, if you get a thinner steel, but add ridges into the steel, it has the origami effect where that thinner steel is equal to a thicker piece of flat steel
hope they do a collab with you
one direction
I would definitely need a cushion to sit on that
That's actually pretty cool for a little 3D printer chair, or workshop chair.
You could make a back cusion that uses springs to attach to the peg board and the force of the cushion retained against the back will keep the hangers from popping off while you move
Air holes on the underside would have been a good addition.
I think a blue seat cushion with white piping and the Ui logo on it would go nicely with this.
Hmm maybe the bottom should have a pull-out drawer... and the back should have 2 hinged doors that swing out - to make 3 panels (perhaps different colors like in your shop). 😁 It would make the chair thicker but add to the functionality as well. - a friendly industrial designer 😉
I was thinking more like storage drawers below the seat 💺 🤙🏽
Add a battery charger ( with holder on the side for extra batteries) for you puzzle table! It can go right next to your plugs.😊
I think you should collab with James from Freakin’ reviews! That would be such a cool collab, curious to see what you can design for him!
If the post was taller it would be amazing as a mini work bench
instead of the center ring at the bottom it would be usefull if you use a chair like mechanics have with the tray at the bottom to put stuff there.
I think it would be cool for a kid's desk chair; they could even add jibbetz to the back of it to customize their chair!
i hope it comes to life !!
c-can... the chair be crocs-shaped? i'll take two
Talk about comfort!
INVENTION IDEA called wallet watcher A small device (like a nfc tag) that is two parts. One goes on your wallet and one goes on your back pocket. So basically when u put your wallet in your packet they connect and if you take out your wallet a notification will go to your phone saying that your wallet was taken out. I call it “the wallet watcher”
you could add a rubber / foam bar on the top of the back rest with some standoffs so you can lean against it and not get stabbed, but still be able to insert the pegs. oh. and make it skadis compatible :)
You could make it where the back snaps on and off so you can take the peg boards you already have with the tools you’ll need
I NEED THIS CHAIR!
This looks useful for many. Give link!
I can’t find the link to where you have the chairs up for sale. I don’t know if they sold out already so you pulled the link out, or if I’m just blind and am missing it, or if you might have forgotten to include it.
i think you should add a cover that you can buy to make it more comfortable
Wouldn't you be able to drastically increase the sturdyness of the back by giving it a simple flange of some sort? The current version might not bend for you, but for a heavier person, it could easily bend to a point where it is no longer useable..
3:17 does that board thing say fuck around find out?😂
90 degree flanges will add a lot of stability.
I am not sure how to say this but... 1. it's going to be uncomfortable without a cushioning 2. it's going to be cold at touch in winter 3. It's metal... it bends... some parents with excited heavy kids won't like it 4. You didn't do the weight test I don't know if those pockey-stands would be comfortable
Adding padding to cover the back and seat would be effective for comfort.
You should have unique colours for all the tool boards, then put matching color tapes on all the tools that goes on that board
This chair is awesome... I need it for my workshop haha
Great stuff! Puzzle Table for the bonus win
Best IKEA hack!
Where do i order one
you should make a self flipping spatula
Amazing video as always. 🔥 Not gonna lie, I see the #shorts in the description of this longform video, and it got me wondering if I'm missing out on some KZhead algorithm hidden knowledge lol.
The only thing I wish you’d done… change out the wheels for the ones that light up when you roll around. Just to add that extra flair. Plus they’re so fun to wheel around an office in, I have upgraded all my wheels, and even got more to add to some furniture I wanted to be mobile because it amuses me so much. lol.
Do a light blue pls 😊🎉
Very innovative.🤗
Best channel on KZhead. Hands down!
How about holsters on the side or holes so you don't have to get out of the seat to grab something or blindly reaching back behind? Side holster for a drill?
You could have a back cushion hang on the front side of the peg board. That'd make it much more comfortable
YESSS!!!!!!!
this is actually necessary invention
It would be perfect if the bottom was from an garage chair that have tray and drawers in the bottom for storage
Sneak peak at an iMac G3 project?
Need an IKEA counter
Take a shot every time he says "Ikea".
