**NOTE**: Updating to a TI-84 Plus CE to 5.6 or above (the current operating system at the time of this video) will eliminate the Assembly programming capability. Assembly is not allowable on standardized tests, so upgrading will not impact those individuals. However, if you are using your TI-84 CE for programming, see videos by TheLastMillennial on Jailbreaking and calculator programming: / @thelastmillennial

  • OMG you saved my life with how to update my calculator. I realized half way through my pre-calculus class that I needed an update. Your step-by-step tutorial really helped me out.

  • Thank you SO much! I've been looking at videos and articles for over a year now to try and solve this problem. With the help of your video as well as a help forum that helped me update my driver, I can finally use my calculator again!

  • I did all the official resets and the TI84 plus wouldn't turn on. Then I plugged it into the computer and pressed On, and it came alive. Thank goodness.

    • No. It merely copies the file over.

    • Mini USB to USB should work. Watch out for micro. Those are not the same.

  • my calculater is the TI-84 PLUS KEYPAD and this methods doesn't work, my TI connect CE won't even detect the calculater, maybe it's because my calculator doesn't need to update but rather install the OS from scratch, because when i turn on the calculater it says "Operating system not found. Install now" do you know what i can do?

    • The calculator you are describing is a TI Nspire with a TI 84 insert keypad. I am not certain on how updated you can get it, but from some online research, it seems that you can update the software if you use TI Nspire computer connection software.

  • It's important to add that if you update past OS 5.5 then you cannot run Assembly programs without the Artifice jailbreak. Unless you use a Python Edition calculator or you need to use Exam Mode, nothing new has been added so it is not worth updating past OS 5.3.0.

    • I enjoyed your video on the 5.6 update review. I agree that the addition of piecewise and the shortcut of [alpha][x,t,0,n] for the fraction in the 5.3 update was the last significant change related to standardized testing. Though there could be updates in future builds that are beneficial. I used this method rather than updating from an archived OS because it is universal to all TI-84 versions. My intention for this video is not just for CE users as the process could help a CE user as well as TI-84 Plus user upgrade from 2.1 to 2.55. The video is not for the hacker/programmer community; it is intended for typical users, specifically for standardized testers (thus the name Aim High Test Prep). Lastly, most Assembly programs are not beneficial for ACT testing, and they are certainly not allowed anyway due to the length of coding. Since the loss of ASM isn't significant for most users and certainly not needed for test prep purposes, using the newest OS isn't a problem. However, I will add to the description to clarify this point.

    • I was just able to replicate your issue. When I updated my TI-Connect to version 6.0, it stopped recognizing my calculator. This fixed solved it for me: education.ti.com/en/customer-support/knowledge-base/ti-83-84-plus-family/troubleshooting-messages-unexpected-results/36998

  • Warning: Do NOT upgrade to 5.5 or higher. It removes ASM, which removed beloved utilities like Mario, GD, Calcuzap, and so much more. It also remove utilities like Cesium and High Resolution Picture Viewer. Do not update unless you *absolutely need to*.

    • While I do understand that Texas Instrument's elimination of those processes is a major loss, especially to the TI hacking community, the target audience here is a student preparing for a standardized test. To my knowledge, there aren't any tests allowable programs that this update would eliminate. However, updating to a current OS does provide benefits for standardized testing.

    • It is tough to say for sure. It is possible that there is an issue with the wire, so the computer isn't recognizing the device. It can still charge with not syncing to a computer as that is on different pins. The other issue could be the TI-Connect software not matching. If you have old Connect software or the TI-connect Python, it may not work properly. Try updating that before getting a new cable and see if that helps: education.ti.com/en/software/update/84-ce-software-update
