Why I got rid of my Fisker Ocean One within 6 months of ownership

I wanted to make this video over a month ago, after giving Fisker more than enough time to right the multiple wrongs. But decided not to waste the energy on it. Then as I started seeing more and more owners regretting their purchase and getting the same bad experience I had, as well as more reviews showing up rating this vehicle as not that great, I thought it was due.

  • To everyone that says things like "why did you expect perfection" and "what did you expect with a new company" and "they're new, of course there's issues". I get your points. Being a new company isn't a new concept. But when you are interviewing for a new job, you're not expected to be a master at the position. You're expected to be competent. Someone that can do the job that's asked. Someone that matches standard expectations as written in the job description. And then walk the talk when you actually get hired. In my experience with Fisker, they lied on their resume, gave fake examples in the interview, and then showed a lack of competency with full insubordination when they got the job. For this, yes, they did not meet expectations. Failure is fine for anyone, new or established. It's 100% how you adjust to failure that matters.

    • Sorry to hear it, I dropped my reservation and didn't take delivery, lost 5K. I was already hearing issues buzzing around deliveries and when watching the company's focus, they were more worried about world domination then in trying to get a car delivered, making sure it worked properly and establishing good support and service. had people telling me the company show be expanding and launching worldwide, it's how you grow. Well, not hearing anything good about the car or company.

  • Good God. The people that try to silence any criticism of Fisker sound like people trying so hard to pump their hype stocks. If you really want the company’s stock to go up, the company needs to be run by competent management. Not a CEO that is going to pressure his employees to rush production. Edit: PS. I’m really sorry you had to go through this. I can tell it was a really tough decision for you to make.

  • Yeah... I foresaw issues. I had a deposit on it and once they started being deceptive with clearly showing the interior, I jumped ship. Every time they showed the car at their pop ups, it was a non-functioning preproduction model (which was terrible). Even AFTER the functional testers were made, they never showed the interior. They never offered test drives until AFTER some already got their cars. And then, you have the people that wanna get rich quick and have poorly invested in this company hoping it'll be the next Tesla. Nope. Not gonna happen. After all of this, mainstream reviews of this car are STILL basically non-existent. Hard pass.

When they unveiled the car was with everything include then they started to remove features based on trim. Nissan got to get to the bottom of these issues with him and drive the line in the sand to make this work. He should stop denying AP reports that it is Nissan the OEM, this is a problem he has always lying.

  • I had pretty much the same experience, although title went smoothly. Received the car the first week of October, I was rear ended 5-weeks later. Car was still driveable, but Fisker was absolutely not ready to deal with repair parts. There wasn’t even a parts listing or pricing for those parts until late January Accessories were only delivered the first week of February, which was the week I sold the car. Weekly calls to open tickets - always told would be escalated, and no one ever got back to me. AC vents broke the first week, and were never fixed. After being stranded multiple times, Fisker did contract with someone to come out and replace the 12v battery. They also had someone manually update the software to 1.10 at the Vista center, before it was opened. I actually sold my FOO for a $300 profit above taxes. I suspect I am the only fisker owner who will ever say they made a profit. This was only achieved by the accident (uninsured driver…). After the Fisker authorized repair center finally got a parts listing & pricing, they generated a repair estimate of over $25k. My insurance didn’t total the car & wrote me a check. That check plus carmax plus tax credit, gave me a tiny profit - thank you so much to the guy who hit me! I replaced it with a 2024 BMW IXl. It’s a little slower accelerating - Fisker was more fun there. The IX is far superior in every other way - everything works well.

    • Had a 48 mile round trip commute to work. Driving on the freeway for most of it, at around 70-80 mph. Would consume about 90 miles of range - so not quite double. Same trip with the BMW IX, same conditions & IX is a much bigger vehicle - it consumes about 60 miles of range. Key fob - absolutely. I kept batteries in the car, kept the fob in a pouch, with spare batteries. 28 days was the longest I ever made without changing batteries. It stranded me a couple of times before I figured out I needed to swap batteries so often. Just a terrible car. It was pretty, but needed another year or two for development. The company will be bankrupt in 2024

    • Lemon law - same experience. I could not get proof of case numbers. They constantly closed out cases and then were surprised on my weekly calls, and had to open new case numbers. I originally tracked my tickets, but gave up after a while. I realized it would be extremely difficult to meet the criteria for lemon law resolution

    • Thanks for sharing this! Glad you were able to end up on top after all of that. I also appreciate the comparison you gave of your new BMW with things like range. I'm noticing the exact same thing with my new vehicle. The Fisker was fast, but that's about it.

      @adamninja@adamninja2 ай бұрын
    • @@adamninja just to add on the range. With the FOO, I drove Eco mode on the freeway, and fun around town. I never really used hyper. ECO burned the 90 miles of range, and Fun took it to about 110. I don’t even drive with the BMW’s Efficient mode, which was the most energy saving. I’m getting the 60 miles with its blended mode, which I guess would be the closest to Fun. In all cases, Fisker is dead man walking. It won’t be around by the end of this year, unless it gets bought.

  • Adam, sorry you had to deal with all that pain and mess. I would probably get rid of FOO also. Hopefully you didn’t lose much on sale. I’m lucky, since I purchased it in September, I had only minor issues, with the latest version 1.11 key fob working quite well, not perfect, but much better than with original 1.07 version. I think we’re beta testers. And the car is hit or miss, based on other owners reviews, including yours. Again, I’m one of the lucky ones, and overall I’m happy with build quality, and I see the software improvements coming with each new update. But as you said, we all have different experiences. Good or bad. Good luck with your next car, I’m sure you’ll be happy with your next vehicle. I really liked your reviews and will miss them. All the best!😊

    @andrewhamilton2078@andrewhamilton2078Ай бұрын
    • Sure thing. It actually is pretty rough to take care of. You can use self serve car washes but really only for a hot water rinse and soap. I just used a two bucket car wash method by hand at home though. And even drying the car needs microfiber towels in straight long wipe downs and no circular motions to dry it. The matte finish is way more delicate than a gloss finish and can get ruined super easily. The biggest thing is to just never take it through an automated carwash and never use wax.

    • Hi there. I did file a Utah lemon law claim. Without documented repair attempts I couldn't get it solo. So I sought legal help and ran into the same hurdle. The best bet would have been if the tech directly called out both the repair attempts and failed repair outcome for each event. Which of course they didn't. And even that would be a shot in the dark.

  • @adamninja completely agree with your thoughts and feelings. I bought a FOE in the UK and was under the impression that all will be good with the promise updates and future enhancements. But as I have learnt the expensive (not finished product) way, we were sold a something which that has very little credibility now. I have contemplated so many times how I can get rid of this car as there is No support in the uk anymore. No dealerships and the one showroom they have in the middle of the country don’t even pick up the phone. I love how it looks and many of the quirks it has but the most important thing to me is aftercare and I’ve had none since reporting multiple issues. If people who one the car still want to keep there’s then that perfectly fine but I think k Fisker should reach out to unsatisfied customers and offer to buy the car back or provided some form of compensation for all the issues the car has.

  • Henrik Fisker has had a long line of eponymous car companies, each one of which featured a car that he himself designed (he was considered a celebrity car designer being credited with designing the BMW X5, BMW Z8 and the Aston Martin Vantage). Fisker Coachbuild, Fisker Automotive, HF Design and VLF Automotive all promised a sexy, sporty car with impressive features, but each company ended up as a big, smoking hole in the ground. Meanwhile Fisker was able to pocket investor money for himself and somehow he was able to continue to raise new investor dollars for his next scheme. When the current Fisker Inc went public via a SPAC transaction, it's believed that Henrik was able to cash out a pretty healthy chunk of money to buy a new $20MM house for he and his wife Geeta, who was also appointed as CFO of the company. He may be a great car designer, but he is a terrible businessman, or worse yet a criminal.

Sounds like Fisker should have spent time on the Tesla groups before launching to see what issues they might run in to. If Tesla launched a new car now with problems like this I would absolutely not buy it.

I don't know anything about Fisker other than the negative YT videos. I have had a great experience with my Tesla Model Y.. I heard they had issues early on, but any vehicle can have problems. • Very thought out and a bit long but, as a ocean one owner, i agree with most of what you've experienced. The car was rushed and the logistics were a shit show. My wife drives that car and uses it as a daily commuter. She enjoys the ride and lives with the quirks. She is a trooper and she shouldn't have to after investing $70+ on a new vehicle. It's our first EV and we are learning. It is hard not being able to take the car somewhere and physically deal with someone about these issues. My only rebuttal to this is that I accepted a risk with Fisker. The vehicle is solid minus the lack of quality software implementation and features. Fisker did promise chipset and other rewards upgrades to compensate those owners that did take the leap of faith after lowering the prices on their vehicles. I didn't experience ALL the issues you outlined but do empathize having those same frustrations. It was a large investment and it definitely doesn't meet my expectations either. On the other side, they actually delivered a vehicle and i would like to see things change. It's solid and if they get their software fixed (and keyfob ;-))...it can rival current offerings. Guess we'll see.

And they all got the $7500 tax credit for the ones so they are selling them for lower because they can. So you take a few software problems, people entitled for more so they think plus the tax credit back. Or until something larger like a class action happened. You could definitely try though. Your best bet, if you don't want to keep gambling with what's shaping up to be a complete business failure, and you DO want to get rid of it, is to just take your loss and get out. Check any local dealers that have EVs or PHEVs and they should be able to make you an offer. Or a CarMax if you have one in the area. I wouldn't sell it to a private party, or you'll be empathetically stuck as their service contact when Fisker inevitably doesn't respond to them. Most places that offer you money for it, will just sell it as an 'exotic' to an auction site, which ends up dropping the car in a place that it's more popular and servicable. Mine already ended up for sale in Orange County. 3 states away.

Sorry for your issues but it sounds like you didn’t want to stick around for the 2.0 upgrade and 3.0 in April. All of these issues will be resolved afterwards. Also using a key card or key by phone is coming which fix the fob. Sad to say but all tech has issues the first year and even new cars their first year or a car refresh. My husband says he will never buy a first gen phone or car. I never understood it until the Samsung note 7 came out and all the first gen vehicles. I do think that Fisker didn’t realize they needed to hire more techs and customer service until it all came at once. I do see them hiring more and more. Good luck. I do believe they are learning from mistakes and doing better. And having dealers will help so much with getting plates, and service.

    • Before 2.0? Yeah. Of course I got rid of it before then. It wasn't even slotted to be installed until next month for me. And I'm still skeptical of it fixing every issue I had. And even more skeptical of them meeting the shared roadmap. They can't fix their organizational mess with an update. Hopefully I'm wrong and you all get good stable versions over the next month.

Once they stopped responding and I couldn't get a single repair even addressed, I stopped releasing them. They're not a good company. They don't deserve positive videos.

  • You literally had one of the very first in the country from a brand new car maker (August 2023.) Did you not think there would be problems with software? Problems with customer service? Yes, the Ocean isnt ready for prime time, but why would you buy the first car, of a first edition, from a new car maker without expecting issues? Zero sympathy for you. I got my FOO 2 months ago. Still waiting for some accessories. Delivery was fine, a tech came and updated my software 5 days later. I have never had to reset. Key fob is annoying but getting fixed. I get minimal vampire drain. I get weird error messages. Yes, your experience and mine are both equally true, and you had a bad experience, but clearly your expectations were misguided. I have software issues and poor customer service too...but I expected it. If you want a perfect car, dont buy a new model. Certainly dont buy the first in the country and from a brand new car company. If you had waited till August 2024, you'd probably love your Ocean.

    • Hey thanks for the comment. But sorry you have zero sympathy as you say, and decide it's better to defend a classless, service-less company and oligarch than a peer buyer with a lemon. One that could have easily been you. You have what I'd call the "basic issues". Many people lucked out and only have that. 5 months later I never had those accessories, and had zero fixes. No one expects a flawless car. We expect a company that responds to issues and doesn't ghost its investors. Good luck with this brand, their promises, and any shot at a warranty. You'll need it.

  • Im not saying this guy didn't get a bad experience but i recently met up with over 75 enthusiastic owners in the SF Bay area. We agree customer service is bad, so is delivery, but the cars are fun to drive with minimal issues unlike this person. I love my car. Just went over 5k miles. I am concerned about the future of the car because someone like this puts out a video that doesnt capture the REAL experience and people who have ZERO idea of the quality and innovativeness of the vehicle are quick to say negative things. These are the reasons the company is struggling and not because of poor quality, performance or design

    @garylopez3414@garylopez34142 ай бұрын
    • The company is struggling entirely from its own fault: poor management, nepotist C level positions with awful business crippling finance, over promised/under delivered, absent customer service (to MANY buyers not just me), multiple documented and reported users with critical safety issues, alpha level software launched to the masses, and ego. It's been a downward trending line since the car first started getting delivered last summer. Customer complaints, like mine, only frame the picture. Fisker's bad business actually paints it.

  • The stock price says it all. Fisker is SUNK, and going to go bankrupt. Under $1 it will be delisted, then see who wants to invest in new models or the company. Your resale values will plummet and service will disappear in Chapter 11. I'd never buy a first gen EV or ICE car from a new company. Wait a few years, see what the problems are, resale values, stock price and profits are. From what I know, there are only 3 companies making money on EVs - BYD, Tesla, and Kia/Hyundai. Also, tech and batteries are getting way better, cheeper, etc. You'll be able to buy a new better and cheeper EV in a few years - look at Teslas. Most experts agree Tesla is 5+ years ahead on all tech, add full self driving and that will be a game changer. Lots of EV bankruptcies already and many more coming. Good choice for cashing out now and not in 6 months or a year. Fisker is SUNK - kzhead.info/sun/gMmAqdWIqImjnGw/bejne.html

  • I don't own Ocean car, I own the Fisker's stock. I wanted to disclose that. The video is from legitimately frustrated owner, no doubt about that. However, what any driver/potential buyer wants to put on the equation is this: are those shortfalls of the new company worth owning the car? If this video would be fair, it would state good sides of the car and the bad once. For example, do you like how it is driving? Do you like how is it inside compared to whatever it is differently elsewhere? And things like that. Many issues, that author listed are fixed or will be fixed with the software updates and with the growing network of the dealers. I agree with the author that it is frustrating experience for him, but he should've listed other things which potentially pluses to make an unbiased review. But how can you be unbiased, right? So, no judgement for making points of the owner's view. I also would add that price for Fisker Ocean is not realistic today, even with the Sport version. Tesla Y is selling at its lowest. Thus, for me to make any rational comment, I need to test drive Tesla Y and Ocean One to see the difference of how I feel, and If Ifeel great in Fisker, it would not matter to pay some reasonable extra amount.

    • Hi thanks for the comment. The difference between this video and others, is this is not a review. It is a reason for ditching the car. My overview video is more of a review. I think it'd sound odd and not make much sense to list positives of a vehicle I chose to get rid of.

    • @@adamninja I got you. I have several friends they bought their Tesla Y 1-2 years ago. The price was $72,000 - $80,000 plus tax and fees around $80k to $90k respectively. Today Tesla Y can be purchased for $40k and some of them include $7,500 fed tax credit. There was a guy recently died, crashed, using autonomous mode in Tesla. The point is that we all have something that we do not like, and we can make a case to hate or dislike almost any car. Again, you have definite right to post this video, and I hope that you did not lose much on selling your Fisker. Fisker must get his company acts together or it will be a mess for the owners of cars and I lose my investment🙂)))

      @sashamesser2596@sashamesser25962 ай бұрын
    • @@sashamesser2596A $90k model Y, are you sure 🙄. And what is the problem with the price going down for the owner ? You have a car that works and more people can now buy one. I have a 2018 Tesla model 3 and now it is cheaper so more friends can also buy one, and my car is still perfect. And thanks to the $7,500 fed tax credit (or other incentives all over the world) there are more EVs on the road, so less pollution, so less climate warming, including for the people who already have an EV or even an ICE car or even no car at all. Lower prices for EVs was always the plan, for the benefits of all. The only people who are sad when prices go down are speculators and speculators are just parasites. And the deadly autonomous argument is BS, and even you probably don't believe it. The point is that the model Y is the most sold car *IN THE WORLD* even with Tesla not yet present of many markets, while the Fisker Ocean will probably be one of the less sold cars. You did bad investments, ok, but don't try to trash other cars and carmakers, they are not the problem.

    • @@didierpuzenat7280 Answering for the most important point, when you bought a car at certain price, you will be paying INSURANCE according to the price for all the times, if you financed your car. Also, you owe to the BANK too, according to the price, so if you have issues in your life, you cannot sell your car to get even 70% or 50% on what you paid for it. Of course, if you do not have and will not have any financial issues in your life, you would care about the price of your Tesla Y. Not a hater of Tesla Y or Tesla's.
