  • Played my first game yesterday...it was intense since we played with a ball that had 2 yellow dots in it and I have never played before. Spent a lot of time running around and returning few. Am in my early 40s, slim and a decent mover but my reflexes on my wrong side (left) is weak. I have dodgy shoulders too. I need to watch a few videos on the right stance for beginners. I did enjoy the game though and in hindsight, I should have watched this video earlier. It's very useful. Thank you.

      @zoeaust_@zoeaust_3 жыл бұрын
    • Zoe Aust oh fantastic that’s very kind! It’s quite basic actually, just haven’t been able to find the rules on two things: 1. When do the sides get changed during a match? 2. During the serve, when the ball has to go into the opposite box after hitting the front wall - can the ball hit the side wall as well before going inside the other side of the T or does it have to go straight to the floor after hitting the front wall? Thanks so much!!

      @astra1360@astra13603 жыл бұрын
    • Astra 1. Do you mean the what side you serve from? If so, when you first serve you can serve from either box and if you win the next point you will then serve from the other box. Eg. you serve from the right, win the point then serve from the left, win the point then serve from the right again. You keep alternating as long as you are winning points. I hope that makes sense 2. Your serve can hit the side wall or back wall first as long as it still lands in the back quarter after

      @zoeaust_@zoeaust_3 жыл бұрын
    • Zoe Aust yes that’s what I meant and oh I see! And I just realised you actually mentioned that in the video but I must have kinda missed that! But the serve always changes to the person who makes a point, right? So essentially you swap sides for the serve after every single point because then the other person who serves gets to change sides too, after having made a point, or am I getting something wrong? 🙈 And okay makes sense! Thanks so much!

      @astra1360@astra13603 жыл бұрын
    • Astra yes whoever wins the rally/point serves and yes that’s correct if your opponent is winning the points they’ll be alternating sides to serve and you’ll be alternating sides to return the serve. If you serve from the right then lose the point your opponent can then serve from the right as well, when you first start the match or win the point for the first time/not consecutively you can choose what side to serve from and then if you keep winning points you alternate

  • I have no experience but wouldn't be slice shots or cross court shots using side walls more effective?

    @alpayk1903@alpayk19033 жыл бұрын
    • Slice shot is the default forehand and backhand of squash, albeit with a lot more power. So you hit the geberic length using a 'power-slice'. Secondly no, hitting a very wide cross court to hit the sidewalls only takes the ball into the middle of the court where the opponent doesn't even have to change direction to hit it back. This is actuallly one of the prime mistskes that novices actually make. Good questions nonetheless!

    • When you first win the point you can choose what side you serve from (most people serve from the right first, if their opponent is right handed, so they are serving to their backhand), after that if you continuously win points you alternate between the right and left side. Eg, you serve from the right and win the point, then you serve from the left. Hope that makes sense! :)

  • Warmup to make the ball bounce more (warming the ball) You have to spin the racket to see who serves At least 1 foot must be in the serve box when serving and the ball should be above the 2nd line on the wall The ball should then land in the opponents half and must land behind the front line of the half (half court line) You can hit the side / back wall Ball can only bounce once Each game is 11 points, best of 5 If u get to 10 all, then u must score 2 pts to win

  • well, good video. But can anybody tell my why the shape of the squash racket has changed? 80s compared to nowadays.

    @elmokamiz7177@elmokamiz71774 жыл бұрын
    • Elmo kamiz same reason most things change... modern technology and materials. Racquets are no longer made of wood.

    • @@zoeaust_ Thanks for your comment. I' ve already bought a newer one and in my opinion, it's easier to play compared to the old ones. lighter, greater surface etc.

  • Good cover but I think you may want to consider a lob as a main shot too.

    @dunlop9292@dunlop92923 жыл бұрын
    • It’s a variation of either a straight drive or cross court.. would be like saying a kill shot is a main shot too

      @zoeaust_@zoeaust_3 жыл бұрын
    • @@zoeaust_ well lob is really different really. As it’s put lob is a shot played high above the front wall. It’s recognised as a main shot of its own by many books and also top players. Kill really I can’t really describe it. I don’t mind if you can enlighten.

    • haris khan if you have any training groups at your squash club I recommend joining those or even getting a few coaching lessons to start off and then also doing some solo sessions to practice your drives and serves etc. I’ll try to post some more videos on solo drills and fitness!
