Bass Reeves life is incredible as well. I respect the heck out of him. Especially when he Arrested and turned in his son.
Yeah, it was the hardest arrest he made. Glad I made that video, too. Next I should do Bill Pickett!
@@ArizonaGhostriders definitely!!! he was also a very interesting man as well.
It's a good rec. I learned of him from Santee's video.
Need a movie
As ALWAYS, this video was very interesting, fast-paced, and loaded with those awesome audio and video clips. Thanks, Santee. 👏🏻🐈🐎 I agree. If Nat Love exaggerated a wee bit, *he surely earned that right.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Explores the life of Nat Love, an American Cowboy, shedding light on his resilience and contributions to the Wild West. It offers a valuable glimpse into a lesser-known but significant chapter of American history, inspiring a deeper appreciation for his legacy.
Thank you!
Best part of my Saturday mornings!!!
Mine too! LOL!
From my personal experience in studying the old testaments of local figures, most if not all were penned many decades later in life and the ravages of time and the jumble of life experiences all seemed to blend into one narrative that is often very different and somewhat confused with the timeline of life events that often are mixed up. I don’t doubt that they experienced those events but I don’t think they happened when the narrative said they happened. It is important to recall the stories of these people of the past because as long as their stories are told, read, and shared, they are never forgotten. As always a great Saturday Morning Presentation. Thanks Santee
You're welcome.
I noticed you had Deets from Lonesome Dove in your clips. He was based on a real black cowboy and scout too. A man named Bose Ikard (if I’m spelling that right) who rode for ex Ranger and Soldier Charles Goodnight on his cattle drive. The brief but affectionate and touching inscription Woodrow Call puts on Deets’ grave in the movie is almost verbatim of what Goodnight put on Ikard’s grave.
Yes.
I had a fun childhood, my dad used to push me down the hill in old tires They were Goodyears.
I never tire of that joke.
Saturday afternoon beer and Arizona ghostriders, this will be a good Saturday
Thank You!
That's cool you got to handle that colt single action. A few months ago I got to handle an authentic one at fort chadbourne that was actually at Little Big Horn, one of Custer's men died with it on the battlefield, by far the coolest thing I've ever held. Also great video enjoyed it as always keep them coming!
Thank You!
I enjoyed this episode. I know that "cowboys" and many old westers were multi-cultured people. What a wonderful history. Thanks Santee.
Our pleasure! Glad you liked it, Ralph.
The old west was full of colorful characters!
yes
History It's what's for breakfast 🤠
Yes!
Another good video, I always love history, Black cowboys are a good topic, along with the fact that cowboys came from most all walks of life, and races. Hard working people, one and all. I remember what it's like to handle a first generation piece maker, Thank you Mr. Kirkland.
You're welcome.
" I will make you famous " has cowboy 🤠 another great one amigo
Thank you, Marco!
Nice mini documentary, Santee. 👍👍
Thanks a ton!
Nice sharing Santee as always and thanks again for your awesome friendship 👍💯💯
Thank you too
Great job Santee ... I just love all the History of the old west .
Glad you enjoyed it
Black Americans were very good cowboys and the native americans were also. Before the southwest was part of the USA, when a vaquero did good on the rancho, the N/A were so good at cowboying that someone would declare “pues, él crio entre los indios!” Which translates into “well, he grew up amoung the indians!”
Great extra info. Thanks.
Great episode Santee! I hope you had a great weekend. We sure did! My son had a blast, literally! Cheers!
So great to hear! Hope he is bitten by the reenacting bug
@@ArizonaGhostriders He has. After an hour long battle with constant musket fire, he said it was awesome!
Been meaning to watch the harder they fall. Tonight is the night
Good!
I sincerely hope you'll never stop making videos!
Thanks!!
Cheers Nat.

Many western shows or movies have actors using 1892 Winchesters and 1873 Colts before either was ever produced.
Yes, like Rio Lobo.
Another informative video Santee, as always!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! 100 miles a day is the maximum a horse can travel. That's a high dollar young fit horse.
Considering he was prone to exaggeration, we will never really know.
Thanks again Santee & Co.
You're very welcome, Victor.
Victor, my email address is in the channel section. Please email me and we can talk shipping info!
Hello Arizona Ghost Riders. I have to look into more about coming to your facility to check it out over the winter. When the weather is cooler. I definitely enjoy your show. Stay safe

I have to say that I dont remember this name when we studied American history. Thanks for sharing it and you taught me something I didnt know. HAHAHA. 👍👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it, Alpha Traveler!
Good story and history.
Thanks much, man!
Amazing video
Glad you think so!
Thanks for bringing these old westians into the light other wise we may never have heard of some of them.
Good!
Hey Santee ! First off thanks for the amazing content that you and everyone else from the ghost rider troop puts out, i was thinking can we please get an episode on tomahawks in the old west ? It has always been a fav weapon of mine . Regards from Hongkong 🇭🇰
Sure, and thank you.
Good one!
Thank you! Cheers!
Great video and even better topic. Would love one on Bill Pickett. Dan gone hurt you before it's over.😂
Great suggestion!
I've seen the old photograph of the Black cowboy many times. I'm glad to now know his name and some history about him. Would love to see that movie, even though it's pure fiction. Thanks, Santee!
You're welcome
Good video.
Thanks!
Have a great 1 santee
Thank You!
History of the old West is so interesting. Those times made strong men and women! Keep up the good eork Sir and thank you for all your hard work and time. You are appreciated Santee
Thank You!
Love the new mail bag drop! Might be an interesting novel to read.
It is fun.
great as always , very interesting never heard of him. sounds like a awesome man though like to find out more about him . love to see the next one colt revolver
The Colt one will be before the holidays.
boy you are in trouble with Dirty Dan on this one he gave you THE LOOK lol
Yes!
I Love that you did this episode. See what I did there?
Yes!🤠
The harder they fall was about as accurate to history as me claiming I rode with the Rough Riders.
HA! But it's a fun western.
@@ArizonaGhostriders true.
Santee your awesome
Thank You!
Great Show !!!!!!
Thank You!
A great video, but I can't wait to see the one on the First Generation Colt. I am sure you will get a lot of enjoyment from it
I hope so too!
Great video Santee! My students are always surprised to learn there were black cowboys. We have a good time with the Buffalo Soldiers too.
Thanks!!
Santee, just became a Patreon
Dagnab it! Didn’t finish the post! Drayton Calhoun is the protagonist of a series of novels I’m writing, hopefully to get published soon.
Thank You!
That's great! Best of luck!
Once again you are out standing in your field
Thank You! I'm actually sitting down in my living room...LOL!
Hey santee, its me again. the guy that suggested the Army No.2 Revolver, sadly no you have not done a episode. you did one on the Model 3 but that's a different type of revolver im afraid
No need to be sad or afraid. I'll put it on the list.
It’s hard to believe that someone like Nat would exaggerate a few stories in order to sell his book.
Remember, that there weren't 401k's back then or any type or surdy retirement system. The poor guy probably worked up until he died.
@@ArizonaGhostriders That’s true.
Livin in Cochise County for about a decade, know about the Buffalo Soldiers too lotta cool stories.
Yes those guys were amazing.
Thank you santee
You're welcome, Joshua. Hope you enjoyed it.

How do we send you mail?
@@dennisw.truman3325 why
For some other first generation fire arms from the 1800s, maybe you can calibrate with Hickok45. He does guns of all kinds. He has a first-generation Colt or a couple and a first-generation Winchester. He might have a 19th-century double barrel shotgun. I don't know about the shotgun, but he definitely has a reproduction or 2 of those.
He does! Maybe one day...
My understanding is that, while he spelled his name "Nat", he pronounced it like "Nate"; possibly he and his family were illiterate when he was born. The ability to write long book titles (very common for the era) came later. Thanks for another AWESOME video!
Interesting, but if he was illiterate how would he know how to spell his name? Not saying you're wrong, but seeing as their was no identification back then I'm wondering about that. If you have a source I could read that would be very helpful. Curiosity, ya know. Keeps us going!
I'm kind of guessing here, but I imagine that many illiterate people can at least write their names. As far as a source, I don't remember where I first heard it, but it is repeated in the Wikipedia page about him under the "early life" subheading: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nat_Love
@@griff6985 Thanks! Wikipedia is not a main source for me, but I do use it because the footnotes lead me to great places.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Wiki, like any encyclopedia, is never a main source, but it's so useful for getting you started down an interesting trail.
@@ArizonaGhostridersI absolutely agree about Wikipedia. Like I said, the pronunciation info was "repeated" there; I wish that I could remember where I first heard it. I scanned the introduction to my copy of Love's book and I don't see it mentioned there. Of the footnotes for that statement in Wikipedia, one is an online resource from PBS and I don't think that it mentions the pronunciation there either. Take it for what it's worth -- apparently you heard it from some guy on the internet and it's supported by Wikipedia! 😮😂
How about a video on former Texas Ranger and leader of the California Rangers Captain Harry Love?
Sure
How about a video on former Texas Ranger and leader of the California Rangers Captain Harry Love
Sure
Not on point, but that snippet of song from Les Misérables brought back fond memories of seeing it performed on the London stage long ago.
I think it's from the movie version, which some thought was not on point.
@@ArizonaGhostriders I never saw the movie, only the stage play and it was part of the performance.
Ahh. Westerners ain’t prone to tell in’ windies. Are we? I handled an old Colt at a gun show but never got to fire one. If you get the chance don’t pass it up. They got great balance in my opinion. Good info on Nate Love. Some stuff I’ve never heard.
Glad to have informed yuh!
I saw a tic tok about the Winchester Hoskins rifles not any history just how to load and shoot. Can you do a video on it sometime?
Yes!
Red River Dick - sounds more like medical issue than a name..
Deadwood Dick doesn't sound much better!
@@ArizonaGhostriders😂
2:15 pretty funny but if he could ride that long backwards that would be impressive
Sure!
Hey Santee how do I send you mail? I have some subjects I would like to see on a video. I’m not sure how this works.
Best to send me an email, which is in the "About" section of the channel. Then I will talk with you more privately about it. Thanks much!!!
A guy I know’s great great aunt was billy the kids girlfriend. He also has a gun collection. He has one that may have belonged to earps with notches on his gun.
Very cool lineage, there. Just so you know, Earp had no respect for folks who notched their guns, so it isn't his. However, it could be another Old Westian's!
I'd let you handle a first gen Colt lighting. Just ask.
Thank you, Kip!
Awesome video!
Thanks for the visit
Harder They Fall was an excellent movie. Need to do a review on it.
It was pure fun and great action..
💛...pew...pew...
🤠
Santee I had a creepy experience with a creature I never believed in until I saw one with my own eyes I was wondering if you know of any reports ???? And how far back they date ?nyou know like any one being attacked or things being thrown at them ?
Creature, eh?
Yes bi pedal walks on two legs covered in hair huge and smelly sure wish I could post the pics I took normally there all blurry mines crystal clear I made sure my shooter had 6 cause I carry on a empty chamber and checked my rifle for protection then took the photo
The movies glorified and sanitized the cowboy genre. The reality is that it was nasty, dirty, back-breaking, low-paying job. About the closest modern equivalent might be the migrant farm workers.
🥃
Like your videos, but the Emancipation Proclamation freed no one, not the least of which were slaves held by Northern states.
Not immediately, but by the end of the Civil War, 4 million enslaved people were freed as a result of that document. It was a huge milestone.
African Americans!? And the others are European Americans...
You left out Native Americans...
👍@@ArizonaGhostridersThese terms always surprise me, especially because no one ever talks about European Americans. But I think language and history are like that...
