He's not a weak leader for losing the war to a vastly more powerful nation, but he is a very foolish leader for not staying, at the minimum, neutral between the two powers.
There wasn't a chance at all. Russia had been building(like the Chinese right now) a war machine since the early 2000s to be able to use it when the time comes. This war had to happen, it was just a matter of when.
