  • I can explain the furnace minecart just a little bit: back in the early, early days of Minecraft, way back when it was still an indie game developed by just one guy, furnace minecarts were added as a way of pushing minecarts around for long distances and up the side of mountains…except, they turned out to be unnecessary as the community quickly figured out that, as the speed of minecarts when they are pushed by another entity (including another minecart) is determined by their proximity it's just easier (and faster) to use a minecart running on parallel tracks as a booster. This actually became _very_ popular and effectively obsoleted the furnace minecart; even as this bug was eventually fixed and replaced by powered rails, the furnace minecart was largely only kept around because Notch kept insisting that "it might have another use in the future". Well, it's been more than ten years (and Notch has left since then), so at this point, I'm fairly sure it's just been forgotten. Also, another annoying quirk of Minecraft is the heat physics. Obviously, being Minecraft, I really don't expect any physics in the game at all…but lava can instantly incinerate almost any item in the game, yet you can carry it around in a bucket without burning your hands, fill up a chest or a barrel without setting it on fire, and toss a bucket of lava itself into lava and watch it incinerate. Snow and ice melt in close proximity to a light source _regardless_ of how that light is produced. Torches, lamps, and lava are all incandescent lighting, meaning they emit light due to heat; but sea pickles, sea lanterns, and shroomlights are almost certainly bioluminescent (therefore chemiluminescent) and should emit very little heat. Snow and ice will melt in certain biomes, but not in the Nether-and speaking of the Nether, wet sponges will dry instantly when placed, but neither ice nor snow melts instantly, and you can still freeze to death in powdered snow! These things don't really affect the gameplay, but as a physics nerd, it's impossible not to notice.
