The Mongolian Gobi is a vast steppe devoid of prominent mountains and rivers. In the Gobi region of Mongolia, nomads are herding half a million camels. Bactrian camels are one of Mongolia’s five main livestock groups known as the ‘five snouts.’ They are mainly found in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert the world’s fifth-largest and northernmost desert.

    • No dairy products?No clotted cream, no cheese and curds? They never did once khailmag for you? I’m stunned. What lazy and/or stingy people were you staying at!

      @tuyatserendorj2107@tuyatserendorj2107Ай бұрын
    • @@tuyatserendorj2107 Stingy or lazy? Of course not. They were the most hard working and hospitible people. There were always cheese and kurd around, and anybody could eat that whenever they wished, but as I said, we USUALLY just had bread and milk tea.

      @iwamitsu32@iwamitsu32Ай бұрын
    • @@iwamitsu32 then I’m surprised at your comment this breakfast being way too fancy. I’m sorry if you had not such breakfast at your host family. All the foods you see in this video are typical for Mongolian breakfast: clotted cream, hailmag with raisins, no-bake-cake from barley flour, cream and sugar. They can differ in form, color and flavor depending on the region or the family tradition. The serving is maybe a little pretty, or neat, but not “fancy” at all as you described. She did not even made flat bread or deep fried pastries, but served only store bought bread and pastries.

    • @tuyatserendorj2107 not every family has khailmag for breakfast everyday. My family usually just has suutei tsai with clotted cream on dark bread and some bortsog. We have a quick and filling breakfast and then go to work. I don't understand why you are calling his host family lazy

  • Medically speaking, about 70% to 100% people of East Asian descent have lactose intolerance due to a lack of the lactase enzyme which breaks down lactose, a sugar found in milk and other dairy products. That was why there was a lack of dairy based products in East Asia, with soya milk taking the place of dairy milk. I often wonder if these Central Asia nomads have a similar condition. I would presume not as their diet seems to consists mainly of camel dairy products.

    • In Mongolia, animals are the main source of food and nutrients, including dairy. Most don't have lactose intolerance. Due to the geographical placement of the country, there's a lack of vegetation and meat, and dairy products are the main food.
