Another Horse shoeing video, this time it's Aero's turn. She is quite old and doesn't do much work so her shoes weren't very worn. After trimming her feet i put the old shoes back on.

PLEASE READ THE FAQ's BEFORE POSTING!!
1: Hot shoeing ensures a good fit.
2: No, it doesn't hurt the horse if it's shod correctly by a qualified registered person.
3: The horse is calm because it has been trained from birth to know there is nothing to fear.
4: The majority of horses these days are worked either under saddle or in harness and on hard man made surfaces, shoes protect the feet from wearing down too much and can add grip via studs in the shoes for competition animals.
5: Feral horses have particularly hard feet and manage them naturally by foraging, if they get sick they recover or die, it’s nature.
6: The average horse needs re-shoeing every 6-8 weeks
7: The bit I am nailing to has no nerves and is made of Keratin, the same as your finger nails and hair.
8: The burning smells just like burning hair.

I love how they gently taps the horse’s leg to get them to raise their hoof up. The horses are definitely in good care.
I love how you handle the horses, much better than some of my family used to handle theirs. You’re gentle with them and wait for permission to lift the leg, my uncle got kicked a lot for not being patient for permission, thank you for actually knowing what your doing.

Ok I’m making this comment so people can get questions answered without wasting time on a comment. Here we go 1: q does shoeing the horse hurt them? 1: a no shoeing the horse doesn’t hurt them,it’s like trimming your nails 2: q what is the white stuff on the foot? 2: a the white stuff is fresh keratin underneath the old worn out stuff. (If you didn’t know what keratin is,it’s what your nails are made of) 3: q why do they put the hot shoe on the foot? 3: a it creates a custom fit to the horses foot for maximum comfort. If it doesn’t fit they use the hammer and anvil to make it perfect for the horses foot. I hope this answered some questions and if I left anything out just let me know. Hope this helped😊 Thank you for the likes I really appreciate that you took the time to read this, have a great day/night.

You need to make a comment that says "No it doesn't hurt the horse". There are so many people that can't just scroll down and read comments that it doesnt hurt
Horse hoof trimming and shoeing is a really important part in taking care of a horse. The hoof is kinda like human fingernails, you wont hurt the horse unless you go too deep when trimming. The V-shaped part of the hoof in the middle (also called the frog) is the sensitive part of the hoof, and that’s why you don’t really trim or touch it. The horses can’t feel the rest of the hoof (the outside part) and that’s why he can safely trim it and put new shoes on😊 I’m not an expert at this lol, but this is what I’ve learned. He did a very nice job and looks like he knows what he’s doing.

The Dude It’s basically like them getting a manicure! Nothing more!
Thank you for your outstanding videos. I am a farrier in the US, and I admire and appreciate your craftsmanship, skill and efficiency. I am learning from you by watching how you go about your work. And I have noticed the quiet ease with which you move around the horses you serve. They trust you and work with you, and you accommodate them by keeping their legs low and close to their midline. Not sure if that's especially common among British farriers, but I do believe it's something that should be taught and encouraged more. Thank you again for your KZhead channel. Really great videos. I'm making my way through all of them.
James, thanks for your kind words. Some of it is common sense and the rest probably forty years experience!😉
Thank you for your reply, Gary. No substitute or shortcut for experience. But I'm finding it's not the destination but the journey that matters. Every day is a new adventure. And a great opportunity to learn.

You’re very gentle with Aero - it made me quite relaxed! It always amazes me how quiet and patient the horses are - probably because they are used to the routine.
Don’t ask me how or why but I came across a video like this a while back and I was addicted. The simple but hard work put into it all. It seems easy and very complicated. You seem like a master at your craft. Cool stuff

For all the people saying this hurts the horse would you willingly give out your hand and stand calmly if someone was slamming a nail into your hand? No of course not. Would you give out your hand willing for a manicure? Yes. That's all this is just think of it as a nail trim :)

Oh my god for the people who are stupid saying “DoeS It hUrT tHem?” They are going to freaking tell you if it hurts them. When something hurts you (depending on your pain tolerance) you know it hurts and they know it hurts and would tell you. So NO IT DOES NOT HURT THEM
KZhead: Do you own or deal with horses? Me: No. KZhead: Cool, here’s a video on horse shoeing.
The white stuff that he’s cutting off is the same material that your nails are made of, so this is basically just trimming the horse’s nails and it doesn’t hurt them.
See now I know NOTHING about horses but it doesn’t take a lot of common sense to know that if he was hurting the horses the thing would have kicked the shit out of him and run away 😑😬

You sure earn your keep Gary. That is pure back breaking work.
This brings back memories of my horse camp days where there were always a farrier day. We would watch the farrier do their job and they'd explain everything and then we could keep the shoes. We even made jewellery out of the nails. It was so much fun and thanks to those memories, I'm thinking about becoming farrier in the future.
Man, I envy the strength of your back! I am younger than you and would be in a hospital bed within two weeks.
I literally watch 40 mins of horse getting his/her feet done when i don't even own a horse 🤣 but good video tho
these videos are so relaxing
I'm in awe how close aero let you get to their frog while doing this; there's clearly a strong trust between you two. Whenever I cleaned out hooves just with the brush and pick for like normal upkeep grooming, if I got too close they would pull away (because we didnt have that years long foundation of trust and it can be sensitive to hit the frog, I would be the same if it was me). I would get so worried when he would scrape/trim near it, but he obviously has a better idea of where the frog is than I did, and I'm impressed 😯 (in a good way, I'm not trying to be like rude or criticizing on anyone but myself lol)
Sara C something was wrong if you can’t pick the commisure out. Or he’s misbehaving.
I wish y’all would stop asking if it hurts the horse 😭 if the horse was in pain, he would not be able to get anywhere near it.
Chace Ammons their just asking goddamn
hevsofye okay but I’m pretty sure they’ve read other comments 💀
Me: Is horse in pain?! Everyone else: it'd show it Me: shit of course XD
That part is like your nails, if you cut yours nail you have a pain???? If they don't cut those parts the horse does not walk well! But if the horse is free or mustang it wear those parts with rocks.
Chace Ammons only thing in pain is me cause that shit stinks
This is a great new type of ASMR for me.
I'm really kind of fascinated and proud of the fairer watching community. I myself have never ridden a horse, and I'm actually quite scared of them, but I think it's so cool that there are such a large group of people that find this job so interesting! I've even pondered that in another life I could have been a horse fairer. It's a very a noble and caring thing, which also reinforces and keeps the bond with nature; horses in particular of course.
why do some people say shoeing Horse is painful to the animal? Horse seems chill while getting its "nails" done?
@Megan Gulden yeah, that's what I figured. Like any animal who's in pain.
At least horses don't have to pay to get mani-pedis and manicures
Precious Dennis but there owners 😂
Precious Dennis lol
No but their owners pay. And its not cheap either
Nope, their owners just have to pay about $40-$120 every 6 weeks lol
Im getting $50-$75 for basic trim and $200-$250 for 4 shoes. Does include any corrective and/or any pads, studs or special made shoes.
why is this so satisfying to watch?
These videos are great, very satisfying.
Think of the horses hoof as a big fingernail. This does not hurt the horse. It helps it.
Your back has to hurt bending like that all the time
A lot of people think it hurts the horse but if the horse felt pain like we did this man wouldn’t be able to get near him again
NO it doesn’t hurt the horse if it did all of his teeth would swiftly get kicked out. And the burning creates a near perfect fit and yes the horse doesn’t feel that either.
Pedicure for horse. Interesting & weirdly satisfying at the same time
Why....is this relaxing? I fell asleep.
Do you really think the horse would stand there and have that happen if it was painful? I know nothing about horses but of out sheer logic, i know that the horse is totally fine.
