It's one of the most vile human rights crises in history, a genocidal massacre. I'd rather believe those who say nothing are just ignorant/ignoring the issue than to think they are well aware of what's happening and in full support of the genocide. 😔 I think the truth is that Taylpr probably doesn't want to "pick a side" because she sees it as a two sided issue, and that's an ignorant take since, like I said, it's genocide. It's not a nation vs nation war at this point. Never really was..

  • The ending is why I don't call myself a Swiftie. I can't be lumped with y'all. That was so dystopian to watch someone say she can just "quietly support" Palestine or that she shouldn't have to speak on Palestine when she literally has enough power that the Japanese embassy made a statement about something as meaningless as whether she'd be able to make it on time to the Super Bowl. No she doesn't have to, but it's unethical to have that much power and choose not to do anything when 29,000 people (and counting) have lost their lives.

Some sociologist (in training?) on YT made a video essay about Taylor Swift a while back and I think this is a great companion piece to that. It’s so dystopian to see people embrace their individuality enough to be peppy! but not enough to be engaged with the world around them in any actually meaningful way… to the point that even suggesting _anyone_ should is popping a bubble

Genocide involves intentional and systematic violence targeting specific groups of people based on their identity, while global warming is a complex phenomenon driven by human activities like burning fossil fuels and deforestation. Equating the two minimizes the gravity of genocide, which represents one of the darkest aspects of human history, characterized by mass atrocities and profound suffering. Additionally, genocide is a crime under international law with identifiable perpetrators, whereas global warming does not fit within the legal framework of genocide and lacks intentional human agency to the same extent. Such comparisons risk diverting attention and resources away from the urgent need to address the root causes and consequences of global warming, hindering efforts to combat climate change effectively...

By that logic, why does the YNTCD music video exist? Why did she vocally talk about the bill she sent to the white house? Why did she make a song called "Only The Young", which talks about injustice and how corrupt the government can be?? Also, what Orin said is so... ew. What do you mean we are more focused on Taylor Swift than the issues concerning other people, especially when the issue is genocide?? Being a swiftie is not an occupation, it should not disturb you from speaking up on injustice. And about her solving all the world's problems, who is expecting that?? She has influence, and she can do so much with it. Like someone mentioned, many voted just because she talked about it on IG. Why deny that she has that power on issues such as this? Again, I love her music SOO much and adore her lyricism, but I cannot make excuses for her on such stuff. The reason why it disappoints me so much is because she herself painted her image as a person who speaks on injustice. She made many feels like she cares. Well, apparently, not enough to speak on innocent people dying.
