  • I agree with some points. As an amateur goalkeeper (my father also played in the minor leagues during the 1980s in former Czechoslovakia), I believe one of the most common and significant mistakes a goalkeeper can make is hesitation or waiting too long. Communication is important for goalkeepers, but it's even more crucial for the players on the pitch. If a goalkeeper has to communicate too much, something is wrong. Being positive or negative depends on the situation. If your players constantly make mistakes, you cannot tell them they're good when they're not. But it depends on you... I don't think standing on the line is a mistake because some goalkeepers have that playstyle. Whether or not to go for crosses depends on the situation. The last point is definitely true, and in such situations, you can distinguish good goalkeepers from bad ones.

    @TomasMisura@TomasMisura2 ай бұрын
    • 1. Hesitation is a common mistake among amateur goalkeepers. 2. Yes communication is important and absolutely if you communicate too often something is wrong with the team. 3. Being positive or negative doesn't depend on the situation. Just be positive or be tactical or be commanding but don't bring a player's moral down. If a player plays bad and makes mistakes there're other ways to sort out a solution rather than downgrading a player, and I didn't say be positive telling them they're good but another way to help the situation is by explaining what they need to do differently and or encouraging them to keep going. 4. Absolutely not. Standing on your line for shots is bad. There's no such playstyle which has the goalkeeper on their line. There are certain exceptions like if it's from a corner then okay you may have to be on your line or a goal line scramble but for shots outside the box or certainly 1v1s you mustn't be on your line. 5. Misunderstanding. Yes it depends on the situation. However I'm on about the time you can get the ball then go for it.

    @RCFA815@RCFA8155 ай бұрын

    • depends on your defenders positioning. If the ball has passed the defensive line stay offensive, if not go back a step or two, to give yourself more time to react

    • @@oliverstenderup7134 So you start in the normal position but you say if the ball doesn't pass the defensive line then step back? Why? why were you in that original place to begin with if you are going to step back anyway? Doesn't make sense. Secondly if you step back as the attacker swings their leg back then fine your point above would make sense. However, if they fake shot would you step forward again? and as they retract their leg again step back? and they fake shot again you step forward? It just is way too ineffective and makes you look silly. Thirdly if you say step forward if the ball passes the defensive line to be more offensive, fair enough, you close the attacker down and make yourself bigger but if you step back because the attacker retracted their leg to shoot and they send a through ball, then you are a step or 2 behind from your original position meaning it's now harder to close down the attacker receiving the ball and makes it harder to sweep the ball if the pass was overshot slightly. Fourthly from the position you are in you can save shots going to the sides a lot easier than if you were a step further back. Yes you could react quicker but on the other hand you would have more distance to cover. This final point is optional as either way it's a preference thing rather than a right or wrong but both have their +-

  • If the striker is near 6 yard box and and your defenders are in front of you blocking your vision. It’s better to stay on your goal line and stay low to have better view of the ball. This way you get more reaction time when saving close distance shots.

  • Funnily the reason I'm watching the video despite being a goalkeeper for over thirty years is a goal I conceded yesterday where I "chopped" down on the ball. Low soft ball across the six yard box I should have easily claimed, I dived down on the ball and it went straight under my hands gifting them a tap in at the back post. I can only reiterate the Confidence thing here... If you play confident you play better. When you feel nervous and hesitate your game falls apart especially if you make a mistake or let in an early goal.

  • One thing you maybe forgot to say (unless this is a unspoken rule and I’m stupid) is your wrist need to stay as strong as possible, I lost my first ever real season to this after breaking my wrist in practice, as of now I am almost out of the cast and fully healed, during the weeks before summer I’m definitely gonna be having to train my wrist. Good video btw even tho I learned some of these myself

    @BaconBalling@BaconBallingАй бұрын
    • Yeah I agree to an extent. Sometimes your wrist needs to be firm to catch footballs and other scenarios but sometimes you want to have a stiff strong wrist to parry balls, punch or face close shots. Did you have a scaphoid fracture?

  • One for next time and for you, avoid jumping very little when youre ready to receive a shot, you do little jumps before diving and when there comes a shot and youre in the air you have to wait to come down before you can react to the ball and itll make you slow

    @Armanimus010@Armanimus0103 ай бұрын
    • I disagree. It's seen over the entire professional game that many many many goalkeepers do that and that arguably could be better in some instances as you readjust to the shot with that little jump. You readjust to get your feet pointed in a better position which would generate a better and stronger push off but also readjust your feet so that they are the right distance apart from the dive. I understand that it might waste time however by the time you react to where the ball is shot, you'd be on the ground pushing off towards it.

  • The only thing I disagree with is the roll after a dive, many professionals do it because it takes away pressure of the impact but you should only use it when you're parrying the ball for a corner but very good keeper knows where they parry the ball. So to sum up use the roll but only if the ball is away from any danger.

    @drops728@drops7285 ай бұрын
    • Well yeah but that only applies to high dives. To be perfectly honest with you, I don't see many professionals roll unless it's a high dive so you agree with the point made in the video. A low to mid dive won't create much of an impact on the body like a high dive would, like explained in the video and like shown by professionals consistently. Furthermore, most professionals don't roll after dives. The majority just don't, making my point stronger

  • The worst habbit: You think about whats gonna happen. Keep your head clear. Dont think about the match before it starts. Dont think about a shot before its being shot. Dont think about anything. Let your instinct do everything automaticly Overwise you get nervous, you doubt yourself, you gamble, you overthink too much. . Train hard, imagine being nervous in training, experiment... but in a game, you act like a predator, like a mashine, you focus the ball and your surroundings, you do what you've been trained for, Most important: dont waste a thought about the next match.Stop imagine yourself in situations. Thats what training is for.
