  • As impressive as the star ceiling is, I am more impressed by your wife’s patience. WOW! Another great example of how not to be afraid to try something you don’t know, I am sure many will now be inspired to give lighting effects a go, they can truly transform a normal room into a work of art.

  • Looks awesome! I've been wanting to do this for awhile but settled for an all blk wall and created a long narrow panel across the top of the wall with some fairy lights flickering, budget but still had the effect. It's my bedroom/snack bar/home theatre in 1 but I keep thinking if I panel the whole ceiling it will feel too dense in the day. Enjoyed your vid anyway. Hopefully I'll make a decision soon! I love watching home theatre DIYs.. they're just cool :)

    • HAHA Yep, seems lots of people having the same idea... you can screw them in as well - i used magnets just to see how it worked, and it keeps the boards tight - screws will make a pin cushion effect.

    @stephenjordan8712@stephenjordan8712 Жыл бұрын
    • You could cut holes for the speakers and build a grille for the star points. I would have done that but in my room I already had the speakers in the bulkhead and they aim down to the main seat so I didnt need to do that.

  • Great video!! Thank you so much for sharing. I subbed to your channel, great info for home cinema enthusiasts. This video gives me confidence to build my own star ceiling. Those Chinly light units are a very good choice I think. It's perfect that you can connect a couple of them and synchronise them as a group. A question: When you have to do it all again, would you still use hot glue? I've read that silicone kit is the way to go. That way you don't risk damaging the fibre optic strands with the heat gun.

    @Tomberland84@Tomberland843 жыл бұрын
    • Thanks for watching - and yes, that would be a great option over a heat gun/hot glue - we didnt damage many if any fibers, but it would have been better for that as I know some people have tried and damaged their fibers.. The CHINLY engines I linked are fantastic for the price and performance. I have 3 all synchronised perfectly and they give great light. Good luck with your project.

    • @@BuildMontage Thank you so much. One last question, what length did you choose for the strands of the 3 units? I can pick 3 meters or 4.

      @Tomberland84@Tomberland843 жыл бұрын
    • @@Tomberland84 I chose 4m but it will depend on your dimensions of the star ceiling and where you wish to place the light engines.

  • Excellent video & awesome finish. You have given me the inspiration to do this myself. I have one question/ concern, how hot do the light engines get up there in the ceiling void? Would I have to remove a lot of ceiling insulation/create some sort of ventilation for the engines?

    • Hey Tony, one more question. So I have the exact chinly led engines as yourself. To shorten the fiber cable, I'm trying to remove the very end of the fiber connector that holds all of the fibers together. How the hell do you get if off....it seems glued in. Isn't it supposed to be reconnected to the cable after length adjustment. Your help advice would be very much appreciated as I don't want to cause any damage tying to remove it. Thanks

Thanks in advance!

I watched the whole video but you didn’t mention the size/area you were covering and I’m trying to work out if I will need more than 1,000 optic strands for the size of room I intend to install. Could you please tell me the dimensions you covered and if you used all of the 1,000 lights you purchased ? Would really appreciate a response. Thank you 😊

Not sure if you need imperial measurements but you can Google convert them if necessary. 1000 stars worked out for my room really well.

  • Correct me if I'm wrong - The fibers and light that spins is what's giving the irregular flashing of the stars? I'm thinking of doing this only without the fibers to make the project easier. So all the stars in this case will light at the same time.

  • Hey amazing work! Just wondering if you drilled the ceiling channels into the studs or avoided the studs? I'm worried if I try using a hollow wall anchor in the stud it'll split the stud itself

    @prithvig3086@prithvig30865 ай бұрын
    • I didnt intentionally avoid the studs but it just turned out that way. I dont think it will matter too much if you just drill straight into the stud with a screw.
