Such sweet creatures, so fragile and vulnerable when kept as pets. I hope anyone who plans on doing so makes sure to do the right thing by them: they must have companionship else they get terminally lonesome. They should be bonded from an early age by their carer, it's not so easy otherwise. Their environment shoyld be safe, free of stress and chaos. I beg of anyone to not do what so many have done; purchasing a lone critter on a whim and keeping them in a home full of noise, arguments, barking dogs, no friend or entertainment. So many have died from heartattacks, malnutrition or starved themselves through loneli ess. Please folks do the right thing, these are of the more difficult animals to keep as pets ❤

When you give a pet some food, a warm safe place to sleep, some attention/affection, and a tasty treat every so often you get a best friend who will be there for you in good times and bad. Also when your pet is affectionate towards you you know for certain that it’s genuine and pure. There’s no ulterior motive except for a possible belly rub. @@sting6ph I get your joke but that is actually a common misconception about cats. cats DO show affection, they just don't do it in the same way dogs do because they are different than dogs. Cats are mostly solitary ambush hunters while dogs are social pack hunters. Dogs, as pack hunters, show affection by sticking beside their "pack" at all times and playing (hunting) together as well. Cats, as ambush hunters, need to be vigilant and have their guard up at all times, they survive and hunt by ensuring they notice their prey (and potential predators) before they get noticed. This means that cats show affection by lowering their guard around you. This requires you to gain their trust first. This is a long reply so I'm not gonna get into how to gain a cat's trust, you can look it up if you want too.

We have flying squirrels in Michigan. They prefer old growth forest behind sand dunes on Lake Michigan. Babies are always flying into us on misjudged distances. Pick them up they won’t bite. 😂

@@jonjeskie5234 they are highly social, arboreal, nocturnal creatures. They can't be litter box trained so they are going to piss and shit everywhere. Keeping them individually is cruel as they form large social groups consisting of several adults in the wild. Just take a look at the eyes of the critter in this video - all pupil. I can't imagine how much it must hurt their eyes to be dragged out to play in the daylight. They need a diet that is at least half insects and can easily fall victim to calcium deficiency. Cute as they are, they are a specialized animal evolved for its (rapidly dwindling) habitat. Some things are better left alone in the wild than kept captive for our amusement. They cannot live fulfilling natural lives on a human schedule. Below this comment expect to see replies of owners who have convinced themselves they are providing a great life for theirs ("bUt I TrAiNeD mInE tO UsE tHe LiTteR BoX") but the reality is that little nocturnal tropical animals should be left in the wild. Plenty of cats in the shelters.

I live where there are prairie dogs everywhere and if you think they are cute, you should see their companion, the tiny burrowing owls. Look them up. It is sheer joy for me when I trail run through a few of their towns and see them and the cheeky little owls.

Such sweet creatures, so fragile and vulnerable when kept as pets. I hope anyone who plans on doing so makes sure to do the right thing by them: they must have companionship else they get terminally lonesome. They should be bonded from an early age by their carer, it's not so easy otherwise. Their environment shoyld be safe, free of stress and chaos. I beg of anyone to not do what so many have done; purchasing a lone critter on a whim and keeping them in a home full of noise, arguments, barking dogs, no friend or entertainment. So many have died from heartattacks, malnutrition or starved themselves through loneli ess. Please folks do the right thing, these are of the more difficult animals to keep as pets ❤

Also when your pet is affectionate towards you you know for certain that it’s genuine and pure. There’s no ulterior motive except for a possible belly rub. A good friend like a dog/cat for example often will defend you and you will defend it. So please if you care about the well being of a prospective pet be sure that you can take care of it before you take one home.

Cats are mostly solitary ambush hunters while dogs are social pack hunters. Dogs, as pack hunters, show affection by sticking beside their "pack" at all times and playing (hunting) together as well. Cats, as ambush hunters, need to be vigilant and have their guard up at all times, they survive and hunt by ensuring they notice their prey (and potential predators) before they get noticed. This means that cats show affection by lowering their guard around you. This requires you to gain their trust first. This is a long reply so I'm not gonna get into how to gain a cat's trust, you can look it up if you want too.

We have flying squirrels in Michigan. They prefer old growth forest behind sand dunes on Lake Michigan. Babies are always flying into us on misjudged distances. Pick them up they won’t bite. 😂

Make sure it has a friend. Sugar gliders are social animals. No matter how good your bond is, it can never replace another sugar glider. I don't mean to accuse you of it, but I'm just making sure you know since a lot of people don't do research :)
No one who bothered to do research would keep one as a pet in the first place.
Except they are cute. And expensive. There are lots of people who buy them because they are cute and their kids want them, don't do research, and the sugar glider (heck, most house pets) are unhappy because of it. I am just looking out for the sugar glider here because I care. (Bold statement warning) animal abuse is bad, and if this comment helped the creator realize that, then amazing! More happy animals. @@jonjeskie5234 they are highly social, arboreal, nocturnal creatures. They can't be litter box trained so they are going to piss and shit everywhere. Keeping them individually is cruel as they form large social groups consisting of several adults in the wild. Just take a look at the eyes of the critter in this video - all pupil. I can't imagine how much it must hurt their eyes to be dragged out to play in the daylight. They need a diet that is at least half insects and can easily fall victim to calcium deficiency. Cute as they are, they are a specialized animal evolved for its (rapidly dwindling) habitat. Some things are better left alone in the wild than kept captive for our amusement. They cannot live fulfilling natural lives on a human schedule. Below this comment expect to see replies of owners who have convinced themselves they are providing a great life for theirs ("bUt I TrAiNeD mInE tO UsE tHe LiTteR BoX") but the reality is that little nocturnal tropical animals should be left in the wild. Plenty of cats in the shelters.
