Often enough people do not provide their hamsters with proper enrichment, further causing them to perform stress & boredom behaviours. Providing them with the proper enrichment can further help them thrive in our homes.

  • when you talked about how hamsters wont try to burrow in not enough bedding i remembered my first hamster... her name was diamond and i get her when i was nine. i knew nothing at the time so she had a small pet store cage with two inches of bedding. i remember looking in her cage one day and she had pulled all of her bedding to one side of the cage under a level to make a tiny little burrow rather than sleeping in her house. obviously since i knew nothing i thought it was funny, then ripped apart the burrow that she made. i feel so bad looking back on that, i just know that she would have been one of those hamsters that makes huge burrow systems like nea does if she'd been given the chance. i learned and fixed my mistakes but i learned years after she passed, i wish i could have done better for her. im sorry diamond i wish id known better i wish i could have given you what artemis has now

    • you can use words to pursuade ur parents spending money caring for a hamster not w/ the attitude like "i know more abt hamster than u" blah blah blah. The more you grow up, the more easy it'll be to understand how hard they work for you so that you can be able to live a happy childhood. Be sympathize for your parents about their clumsiness, buying you a hamster as "a present" is wrong but they are your parents, not hamsters'. Why wasting money on a hamster when they work so hard to give you chances to get proper education? If you want to provide hamsters to live in good cond like Victoria, please make your own money .

    • @@maecham22 There are always things you can do. Gather branches and pine cones outside, clean them and bake them in the oven to sanitize them (look up instructions for this) and give them to your hamsters. Make toys and hideouts out of cardboard from around the house. Let them out of their cages more often in a large hamster-proof area with lots of your homemade toys. Go to yard sales, thrift stores like Goodwill and Craigslist/Offerup to find aquariums or storage bins extra cheap to turn into cages.

  • Victoria's videos have changed SO MUCH in length and style in the time I've watched them, and that's only 2 years. Her longer videos like this one and her latest one on cage sides are definitely worth the wait. Her old videos usually were very informational about 1 part of a subject, but now she puts so much effort into talking in depth about the whole subject, but easy to understand. They're almost like mini documentaries in a way, especially considering she talks about studies that have been done and about hamsters in the wild. Everybody take a sec to appreciate how far this girl has gone in her time on YT.

  • Another benefit to a large enclosure with 16" of bedding is less clean up. I've found when people use tiny cages and less bedding, they do full cage cleans weekly because the enclosures smell. I had my last ham in a 75g tank with 10" of bedding and never in his year and a half of life had to do a large clean out. I only ever had to clean his nest (before he learned to use a litter box.) Spot clean, clean the nest when it gets "too" full of poop, we all know they love their poops, lol, and the enclosures stay pretty clean.

  • I have owned hamsters as pets since I was 8, I am now 29, and have recently gotten a female Syrian and is the most challenging hamster I've ever owned (it's absolutely the best thing ever she's literally teaching me so much she's the cutest when she goes to sleep in her play pen and regularly shows understanding that when I put my hand in flat it's an invitation to climb my hand to be picked up out of her play pen) this video has given me so many ideas on how to enrich her life as she is very much driven by instincts to chew and climb (when I first got her I gave her a typical cage set up where she could burrow in one area and run in a 12 inch wheel in another and scatter fed her every night but she was so stressed and unhappy in this cage) I quickly changed her set up and provided her things in her enclosure that kept her happy and provided her a play pen of typical toys (including the 12 inch wheel) in which she gets to have as much time as possible and her main enclosure is filled with enrichment she is motivated by and since then I've seen a huge improvement in her stress levels

    • There designed by the creator to look aesthetically appealing to children,eye-catching and stand out however the truth is they cause hamsters stress and boredom because hamsters need stimulation and entertainment to have a good life,in real life they can travel 5 to 6 miles to look for food and if you think about how tiny they are that is very impressive.Because of the height too the wheels are often too small,a wheel too small can cause hamsters long-term back problems and severe discomfort, they will use the wheel anyways too because they need stimulation and something for their mind and body to focus on.

  • Hi Victoria! After watching your video's about hamster cages, I learned a lot about hamsters. I saw a little dwarfhamster on a marketplace yesterday. He had a tiny tiny cage, 1 centimeter bedding and a very small wheel.. So sad he had to stay 4 months in that cage. The owners also did not let him out, so he stayed scared from people. I picked him up today, got him an Ikea detolf and a lot of bedding, a large wheel and some toys ☺️ He was very curious and scared in the beginning, but started burrowing and looking around after some hours. Thanks to you, I learned much more about hamsters. Looking forward to give my bew hamster a better and happy life Keep up with your video's, we love them🥰🌸🐹

  • I used to have a hamster with the minimal of things a few years ago. I started watching your videos and was driven to get another one. This one that I just for today has a 644 sq ft of floor space, a compacted mountain of bedding mimicking your designs. She has 2 hides currently and a bridge that helps her get onto the top of one hidey but also makes a third hiding spot. She's got logs to climb on and under and a ferret tunnel half filled with bedding as a burrow starter as there is nothing better for sale. She also has a sand bath in the area with the wheel (wheel is a no no type wheel that I had before, but the wheel I bought has to be returned and exchanged) When putting it together before I got her put some forge down and hid it from view so she could sniff it out. Currently she has a food bowl but as I've only had her for like 6 hours and there's a lot of changes I plan to remove it after she gets comfy. I found your videos at random but they drove me to get a hamster again but give it a much better home.
