  • During my apprenticeship as a CNC machine technician, I was praised for my 3D imagination ability. But to design such a structure only from your own imagination .... I think there are only a few people in the world who can do something like this without a computer and only with a hand saw, rasp, hand plane and sandpaper. INCREDIBLE!

  • Grandpa Amu is a rare generational craftsman. Watch his hands - not the first time he has done this. Much in the way oral history was passed down, I can only hope that someone in his family has the will to learn from his or her elder. It takes time, patience, the right tools and the wisdom to know how to use them. Your people are lucky to have your skill set. I was lucky enough to have a grandfather to teach me hand wrought woodworking. At the time I was a little thick headed and it took 20 years to really understand the lessons he was trying to teach but now the satisfaction I have from those lessons (and passing them on) brings the same kind of smile. I thank you for taking the time to share your art.

      @cylus_sector9@cylus_sector92 жыл бұрын
    • @@cylus_sector9 you can't be sure of this, especially when there are so many cuts due to the large number of pieces machined. There is no evidence that, apart from the things seen in the video (which are never complete machining of pieces of wood, but only a few seconds of each stage), no mechanical or electronic tools are used.

      @VideoFusco@VideoFusco2 жыл бұрын
    • @@VideoFusco Surely he does 1 cut with handsaw for the video, then proceeds to shred electric tools. Or maybe there are ppl that cannot believe that humans still do something entirely by hand these days. Maybe there are ppl which can't imagine doing thousands of cuts by hand. Yes it takes a long time. I could go on but don't mean any harm and I don't want to offend you, just saying that it can be satisfying to create something without the help of electricity. p.s.: The boards he started with are probably machined, I agree. • I had a maths lecturer when I was in the Royal Navy. He was a member of Mensa and the Magic Circle. He was also an internationally renown expert on puzzles and the science of puzzles. One year just before xmas leave he brought a large box of puzzles for us all to have a bash at. I was given a version of Grandpa Amu's puzzle. It was smaller and with 97 pieces, but definitely the same design. He disassembled the puzzle inside a bag and gave it me to take home and reassemble it during leave. I did it but unfortunately I had two "key" pieces instead of one. A valiant effort but no cigar. I contacted him years later and reminded him of the puzzle. Sadly he passed away of a brain tumour recently but I would have sent this to him had he not, he would have loved it.

    • It looks kind of like African Padauk wood to me. It splits real easy and that red sawdust gets everywhere. It has a pleasant smell when one works it, though. And its color is just gorgeous.

  • This is INCREDIBLE! Designing it alone would be hard, but then to cut out the pieces BY HAND, and assemble it is just amazing. If I had it in front of me, 95% finished, I don't think I would be able to complete it! 👍👍

  • Is that a massive piece of petrified wood in the yard? Makes a great focal point /table. Nice job on the videography. Super cool project as well. Beautiful peaceful location. A really nice video all around.

  • Grandpa Amu, you’re amazing! You videos should be required viewing in schools, especially here in the US. The kids can learn more from one of your 15 minutes videos then 15 hours of US classroom.

    • @@738polarbear really?? Normally I don’t respond to KZhead comments but since I’m in San Diego California and the it’s still shout down over a virus with a 99% survival rate, by agenda driven Gavin the dictator Newscum I’ll make an exception. I didn’t make this comment just for fun. I have 3 children that I had to pull out of the San Diego unified school district in to home schools because the crap they are pushing on the kids & I don’t mean basic education. My middle child with autism, I had to go to court to place him in a special school for students with special needs.The district wasted a year of my son’s development with red tape and when court day arrives the district didn’t even show up , so the court give us what we ask for. Now what can anybody learned from grandpa Amu you might wonder. Let start with this video, for starters... patience, attention to detail, pride, since of accomplishment, hard work pays off, & family, just to name a few. You’ll be hard pressed to learn any of this from US pubic schools especially the San Diego unified school district.
