Are There Other Earths: The Odds of Life Around Nearby Stars

Scientists, wielding sensitive new telescopes and "big data" tools, have detected planets around thousands of stars; some Sun-like and some very different from our star. Many newly discovered "exoplanets" lie in "habitable zones," where liquid water may support the chemistry that enables biology. How will astronomers discover if we have company in the cosmos and where they live?
Don't know who this Narrator is, but her voice is very soothing, endearing and pleasing to listen to. Perfect, for this video.
Somebody should award me a degree in cosmology for the amount of space videos I've watched. I'm sure I could teach a class at this point.😂
Same situation here😂

O man. That intro hit me. RIP Arecibo
Well done guys, this was by far one of the very best documentary about the quest to find alien life..The female presenter was spot on, with a very clear, calming voice, who delighted all of us with incredible info..keep up the good work.
If you want an real documentary watch "above majestic". It's free on tubi tv. That won't give you a dumbed down version of what we actual know. These videos might be interesting. But all NASA and anything science based is always focused on the "micro organism". This keeps people focused away from intelligent life.
@@chrismccabe1795 Thank you, i will defo check that out.
@@chrismccabe1795 Just checked but unfortunately Tubi TV is not available here in Europe. But thanks anyway.
What do you think about the video. Not just how it sounds
What have we to do with aliens, that we spent trillions looking to find them, do we not have enough of them with us? I think we do, the poverties we have in the world coupled with all the natural disasters and uncertainties are they not enough aliens?
Beautiful narration and the pacing of the production is excellent for those of us who WANT to pay attention - you don't need hyperactive, 1-second cut editing, sped-up footage of zooming through New York City traffic or tons of hyper-fast CGI to keep our attention - the content itself is worth the attention.
What do you think about the video. Not just how it sounds

One of the few space documentaries I've found that's actually narrated by a female. Many forms of media, especially movie trailers, have male voiceovers so this was refreshing as well as captivating. Good job!
Life will just have evolved differently from here. Life there will either cope with or utilize the radiation etc. People should not be so narrow minded to think life can only be as we know it here.
Exactly
there is fungus growing next to and inside the Chernobyl reactor that melted down. perhaps the fungus adapted to it.
That's like saying gravity works different in other planets. Its all uniform so Ofcourse it should be similar.
@@bladecast I kinda feel the astronomers who are experts in their field who are saying the best place to look for life is on a wet terrestrial are more correct then someone who got instantly salty over theoretical alien evolution.
In order to adapt and evolve, life has to first emerge. It might not be that easy for life to emerge under hostile conditions.

Very interesting and Informative. I love this subject.
Excellent video and voiceover. Still waiting for Star Trek to become a reality. Exploring space is going to be a exciting time if it ever opens up to light years.
Hm yes.. the ultimate aspiration of mankind, and a dream that most of us want to come true. But in the meantime, while we are still not able to zoom around in cool space ships, its cool to learn about the universe by watching all of the various documentaries and following the news on new discoveries and breakthroughs in tech an physics.
Yeah. I always thought i was born a few hundred years to early. I'd love to zoom around in a spaceship
Wish we were born a few hundred years in the future, just as new horizons are beginning to open up to us in space travel
_If_ it ever opens up … it’s a big if. The speeds we’d need to travel just to get to the nearest star is depressing. Even more depressing when you realize how far the next nearest galaxy with maybe a planet or two is. Maybe we should let the artificial intelligence takeover happen. Who knows, maybe they’ll actually invent the unknown and then send our asses off since we want it so bad.
Unfortunately FTL travel would destroy us. FTL travel and Time Machine capability are essentially the same thing in many respects.
I find it very interesting to watch snd i am a big fan of the hubble since 1977.
What a tragedy to see the iconic telescope in Puerto Rico collapse today on the news. It didn't look like it was maintained very well.
Really that happened
Perfect narration
"Just 11 light years away". Yeah, "just" a journey of like 375 thousand years to get there with current technology.
There may be other earths. But these are beyond our reach. Let us concentrate on the one we have.
I always fantasize about traveling to another earth like world unexplored by humans with so many different life species vegetation and animal unknown to humans. With water and all the good stuff. So freaking awesome! Avatar movie and outer worlds video game are kind of examples

Hi space rip fascinating 🤨 video there’s got to be some kind of life out there ❤️🇬🇧👍🚀David

Hi thanks for your information patrick 🚀🇬🇧❤️👍David
@@patrickkirby7612 theres trillions like earth
@@patrickkirby7612 do you know how big the universe even is?
Yes it's now a realistic belief that there's other planets that harbour life What it's like we can only imagine whether it's even similar to what we know or something so different
I like this. documenting very well
Of course we aren't alone. Look how big the universe is! let alone the galaxy! billions of stars... billions of planets, just in our galaxy alone. Odds are we aren't alone. they might not be evolved enough to be some kind of space faring race, but they're out there, with consciousness, and they probably look up at their night sky asking the same questions as us perhaps.
I bet your ass is alone!
Same thought!!
And we should leave them alone.
Awesome.
So far what we have learned about the stars and their planets we still have lots to learn about those planets in our galaxy alone .
Inspiring!
so good and edited good
Like all videos on the search for "Earth like" or "habitable" platets a lot of: 'maybe, possibly, probably, might, could be, likely' make me think the odds are basically nil without explicitly saying it. Pleasant narration and well presented all the same
Its litterally just that we dont have enough information to be sure. You arent gonna see one small clue for something and immediately say "ITS DEFINETLY (insert conclusion)". Its just that we don't know lol there isn't enough data and precise data. There could be life on mars right now, some phenomena found there can be explained by microbes, or non biological sources (thats just an example). Its an evolving situation, can't say for sure "there's definetely life there" nor "there's nothing there"
Such a hot topic of the day!
Look for rain clouds
I hate all the pop up commercials that infest this video.. 8 minutes into video and already 2 commercial vids.. Kind of kills the mood to watch the video when it is infested with infomercial crap.
I never saw a single ad. Are you watching it in full screen mode? Maybe ads only show up in non-full screen mode.
Nice working 👍
Amazing voiceover 🔥
Very intetesting
If we see the image of the planets that are, just say, 1 million light years away, will that not mean we are seeing now what is actually maybe a million years ago on that planet, and maybe now they have life on it, but we will only see it in a million years from now. Just a thought
I mean, considering it’s how we see other galaxies and stars, I’d assume the same would be for planets, I suppose? However, it gets me confused when they start talking about its orbit over a period of time, and I’m sitting here thinking … orbit as in its orbit now with our time as we observe it real-time ooooooor its orbit X years ago? As much as I try to learn about the universe and how we see things, the whole time things trips me up…
You are right on both accounts.
Really good speech💯

RIP Arecibo...
It's so sad that it was destroyed. We received a lot of information.
Real talk...does anybody else really think we are the only living beings in the universe? Or do you think there are similar things to us?
I don’t think there’s anything similar but I fully believe there’s simple lifeforms on other planets with the potential to evolve similarly! I watched a documentary series a little while back about the catastrophes experienced on Earth that are, to my knowledge, unique in their minor details to our world, which eventually lead to the formation and evolution of complex life. It wasn’t until (again to the best of my knowledge) 650 million years ago when the planet froze and 25 million years after that when it thawed that complex life appeared. This is from memory though so I can’t guarantee the timings, but it was after the “snowball earth” phase of our planet

Thank you Spacerip! 😃
Finally, Giordano Bruno had reason, there are other worlds orbiting others suns.
Of course there is,you would have to be very narrow minded to think for one second that earth is the only planet with intelligent life on it out of the entire universe.
I feel like the universe has millions of earths with life. This isn’t the only part of the universe with the right conditions to support intelligent life. The universe itself is the most intelligent thing we know of.
i love it!
Pls upload spacerip 10 year old video again with hd quality
"There are those who believe that life here began out there, far across the universe, with tribes of humans who may have been the forefathers of the Egyptians, or the Toltecs, or the Mayans. Some believe that there may yet be brothers of man who even now fight to survive, somewhere beyond the heavens."
Are you outta your frakking mind?
That's uh, very far-fetched for me. There would have to be an invading species from somewhere else coming to Earth considering Earth hasn't made space-traveling stuff just yet. Then those species would have to successfully interbreed with a part of the human ancestry. Then every Egyptian, Toltec, and Mayan would have to come from the lineage of that lineage of Alien Life-Mammal Hybrid.
I feel like life is very abundant in the universe. But we likely will not know for sure until we can achieve near light speed travel.
I'd love to watch this but im.not watching 8 ads

Interesting video.. from researching,, it's going to take 40,000 years for Voyager 1 or Voyager 2 to get to our nearest star. I that's It's cool discovering stars with a planet orbiting it, from a telescope, but we don't have the technology to get there.
We need to find a way to travel faster than the speed of light. But this may also lead to time travel. Strange and complex…

Is the moon critical to life on other planets? I mean if the two planets never hit each other and put on a tilt earth & started spinning it slowly. Wouldn’t that drastically bring the percentages down for life on other planets all because two same size planets hitting each other & jump starting life on earth really low or almost impossible for other planets

Future home for humans kind. Founder of proxima b. Good luck for future generations. S.uddin. 🔭🙂
We shouldn't waste time on M (Red Dwarf) stars. Their habitable zones are too close to the star that cause other problems (Day lock...) We have to focus on K - Orange, G - Yellow and F - YellowWhite stars (preferrably cooler F stars) in our search for a 3RD home planet. (I'm saying 3rd... Because 2nd will be Mars, I'm sure of it... If Titan wouldn't be too cold, it could be the 3rd, but unfortunately...)
I think the problem is that there are more red dwarves in the universe, and also brighter bigger stars make their planets harder to detect, especially earth like planets. But maybe the james webb will help
We need either telescopes powerful enough for direct imaging, or to actually go out and visit our neighbours. Earth could be a 1 in a trillion chance, or 1 in 10. Its so unknown, and i think the history of a planet is very important. Look at the atmosphere Venus has. Its smaller than us but has 90x our atmosphere despite being closer to the sun and not having a magnetosphere. Venus like planets are probably very common. But if collisions are typical that end up removing lots of atmosphere, so common that for a planet to remain like Venus is rare then the chances of another Earth dramatically increase. Id love to know those answers
James Webb entering the chat.........
@@2SEXY It still wont be powerful enough, but will be able to add to current knowledgw. The next gen sats after James Webb are massive and will be able to pick up enough light photons for measurements (pretty sure Webb wont be able to measure atmospheres from Earth size planets

NEW CONCEPT: Moving our Solar System towards these "stars", would allow us to be able to visit these far away worlds.
i discovered a habitable world while i was in college our whole class was about finding a star that could have habitable life.
There may be other planets, however... Is there technology to reach those within a short space of time? Doubtful!
This is amazing but even if there are planets simular to our planet, how do we get there? We can't, at least not for over a thousand years
No but maybe we can send radio signals or something! :D I feel like that’s just as exciting. Well, assuming they’re intelligent 😅 haha
@@lilbaby5850 They don't have radios like us😁
Humans not for a long time. But probably soon we will have technology to send small spacecraft for near stars (mainly alpha centauri). And thats pretty incredible if we could have near pictures of other solar systems planets. That would help us search even further if they harbor life or not. But yeah interestellar travel is well beyond our reach at the moment. When it takes like 8 years to get to saturn, imagind another solar system
The truth is The Creator made it in such a way that humans can't travel there
@@lilbaby5850 That would take too long to reach them, radio signals travel at light speed and it'll take a hundred to billions of years for that to reach them, then even longer back to us considering the constant expansion of the universe.
Onwards and upwards! Let's build a 2,000-metre radio telescope!
What happened to the guy with the really cold voice in the space trip episodes the last couple years
I don't think there's much chance for proxima to have life but maybe one that's not tidaly locked
We should develop powerful telescopes with great range and magnification, only then can we get new knowledge
My most curiosity and interest is if there is a billion of earth deep within other galaxies and other living human beings living in them right in this exact moment I'm writing this, breathing and living just like us!!! The earth is just different obviously with no USA, Africa, Russia, China etc... maybe one whole land or broken split land filled with different country names, flying cars.... or could be just like us with driving road cars. I believe in reincarnation. I wonder if one passes, do they have a choice to reincarnate to a different earth in another galaxy or to the same earth... this can only be a mystery that we'll never know... Just imagine how many more humans like us are living deep in other billions of galaxies in each universe!!! We are one of them... I wonder if they're just as curious as us questioning themselves if there are actually other living humans like them I wonder if we've been in another earth in a different galaxy in one of our millions of past lives we lived before, then came to this one this lifetime. It's so interesting and torturous bc I will never know the answer until I die
People on another earth are wondering the same thing....Are we alone...
Agree. My same thought
Did anyone else notice the "trappist system" was Proxima illustrations?
