Alright I’m getting a shovel
Do it.... seriously
@@andrew9145 oh i am!
If I had to get a Iron head HD that was best for ease of operations, maintenance, and just good ol dependability, it would be a shovel... I love the prestige of Pan heads and Knuckle heads and even flatties, but a shovel is most dependable, in the iron head realm
@@klaytonvonkluge4905 awesome bikes. Mines brown and vintage looking. Park next to a brand new bike, you'll get all the compliments. My 8080 sings
And the head
Sitting down with a cup a coffee starting my morning, then this little jewel pops up. Now this is how you start your day. Sounds of shovel heads and coffee
Need a spliff with it
LISTEN TO A OLE ROYAL ENFIELD BULLET MINE IS A 1966 MODEL THE OLDIES ARE ALLWAYS THE BEST IM A BRIT HOW FAR DO YER GET BEFOR YER HAVE TO FILL UP
Coffee makes a sound?
I'm in
@@eciekoc yes you just have to stick your ear right in your hot cup of coffee you'll hear it
You can't help but love that sound, it's iconic
Here a beautiful sounding of all HD shovelhead, what materials of pipes, love it.
Agreed, the soundtrack all of those shovelhead Harley's thumping is something that I could listen to all day
The real thing is much better. kzhead.info/sun/i916c9F9ppaIlH0/bejne.html
Best sounding bike ...
Yeah, but those open primairies... I hate that ratling and squelling. Sounds broken!
My 1979 Shovel is now a S&S 93" 10.5-1 compression Andrews B cam dual plug beasty. Talk about a beautiful sound..plus it rips!
Was seven when I first fell in love with that sound. 74 now 74 or more. USMC
Known it for decades. I grew up around Shovels since the early ‘70s. Absolutely the best sounding Harley engine since the brand’s inception.
I like knuckleheads better, but that's purely aestetics. I have only ridden twin-cams though... But the look of the old board-trackers is just the best! Frame, engine, wheels, seat, handlebars and not much more is needed. Pure riders machine, full of temperament and Joy. Wicked fast and deadly. Just like i want them!
The audio on this is video it unbelievabe!!! I've had my Shovelhead or 40yrs. and starting my 41st.. It's part of the family.
I'm sorry you had to live threw that. Once you get a pumped up EVO you will be mad you had spent your life with a type writer sounding valve train
Owning a Panhead, Shovelhead, Blockhead and Ironhead, (never had a knucklehead) the well tuned Sporty with straight pipes is still my favorite sounding mill.
So much fun aren't they! I love the 48! The older Roadster has to be the best all-round I think. Best handling and double stoppers on the front.
And the most bullet proof design.
Then u must love ratty VW’s
@@keithrobinson8028 Actually I do. I have a ratty 69 VW trike I sometime ride. Let me guess...you're a convertible top BMW CAR guy.
@@JohnDoe-ny1wp Bought or built? We know what we like and that'll never change. You though, will follow the next fashion-wave that'll hit you. I know who is more fun at parties, do you? Those ratty bugs will make ladies talk to you about their parents having one of those and yap, yap, yap. It's actually quite fun. But will they look at some 80k dollar convertible, with matching luggage? Not at all! Don't be so judgemental. It doesn't suit you Sorry JohnDoe, it wasn't for you, but the bully above. Sorry!
I remember quote I read in a motorcycle magazine years ago........."One sounds really good, two together sound superb, and three sound like the arrival of Armaggendon.". I am now 72 years old and have listened to all kinds of motorcycles all my life, but I have never heard anything to rival the sound of a Harley.
You are one hundred per cent correct.
Согласен, даже мы ничего подобного не сделали!!! Хотя хватает нашей мототехники отличной. Но по звуку, это шедевр, даже до нас этот звук доходит.
Agreed 👍
This is the juice I need to finish my winter project; giving my '79 shovel the makeover she deserves. Can't wait to hear that gorgeous rumble again
Shwiiiing!! Nothing like a dialed in Shovel! My 76 with an SU is such sweet music to my ears! Thanks for sharing!
Great video! I miss my 76 shovel, thanks for sharing this therapeutic sound of freedom …
I had a ‘75 Shovelhead, but the I got married….😢. I miss that bike.
Man, I love this album. A lot of people should make music like this
Owned a 77 FLH for 20 years. Loved that stump pulling torque! Life took over and I said goodbye to biking until 2004 When I bought a new FLHT Twin Cam. Still have and it’s been a great bike. Due to health I haven’t ridden in a year and a half , but hope to this spring. As nice as it is I still miss the feeling of hitting a hill in 4th and just feeling the hand of God push me up the hill.
I hope you're health gets better and you ride again. 2 wheel Therapy. Be safe.
I went through a rough time with my health, physically and mentally many years ago. I willed myself to deal with the pain and get back on 2 wheels again. Eventually I could ride for several hours through the mountains near my home in Australia. I credit the riding with my recovery both mentally and physically. Even if you only go out for 15 minutes at a time, it will help you immensely. Hang in there brother, ride you must, it's therapy for the body, mind and soul. 🇦🇺👍
If you can't, then at least get a trike. It really is not that bad to ride one of those. And they make really nice ones these days! Just go and get those handlebars between your fingers, it'll make you seventeen once more. Best of luck to you my Brother! Ride on and be safe.
Watching this amazing video makes me miss my 1960 Pan/Shovel even more. Thanks.
I LOVE ALL THE SOUNDS. THEY ARE ALL BEAUTIFUL SOUNDING
Just what I wanted to hear. Thanks for putting this together!
Brings back memories of the good ol days Thanks for the video
I love seeing these old bikes being brought back to life like this. Brings back allot of memories
I can’t wait to get back on my shovel. As soon as the snow goes away I’ll be on it til the snow comes back next winter.
All of them have the perfect Harley sound, that can’t not be duplicated by others 😊
Always liked the shovel head sound from a Harley. Growing up around engines, old bikes of various makes and tractor's my ears are tuned to a certain sound.
I just wanted to say that you guys make some. Good looking pieces of machinery and to keep up the great work
I started riding HD in 1981, still riding now. These bikes all sounded great but nothing beats the confidence of riding the Twin Cam engine and knowing I will get home without my gear shif lever, exhaust pipes or something else shaking off the bike. That said I'm off for a ride. With my luck I probably have a breakdown now that I've talked smack.
Always be a fan of the show and shovelhead and the Flathead❤ have a great week bro
Shovel heads just have that pure Harley sound. For me it's a tie between the shovel and Evo, as I grew up around them both. Also something about odd firing twins that I like, considering my favorite antique tractors are the two-cylinder john Deere's. Rather it's cyl-1, 180°, cyl-2, 540° repeat so it's a little more poppy than a harley
panheads forever
All Harleys sound like agricultural machinery from a bygone era, but that's just part of the charm.
@@stevenjackson4161 amen nerver forget my old shovelhead
All Harley 45 degree engines are really 2 cylinder radials. Same as Prat and Whitney.
I’ve got an old John Deere G, Ducati Desmo L2 and a Shovel. They all sound amazing yet are completely different. ❤
I owned a 49 wl45. made my own exhaust from a 3inch diameter drive shaft tube. fed the two cylinders into the big tub with 2 smaller stainless flex pipes. had a nice sound.
The lovely old Shovelheads, with their "Single Camshaft" with four cam lobes! None of this modern, fancy, "Twin-Cam" stuff; a hyper-expensive, over-complicated mix of whirring camshafts, chains, and gears! Simple "bottom-ends" rule!....A wonderful sound...just make sure that the oil pressure is sufficient at very low revs!...LOL...! Take care, all!.... 😀....😀....!
Shovel’s definitely have a great sound. My favorite engine sound?…..the one that is under me when I’m riding. 😁
79 Lowrider with shorty mufflers. Not to diss anybody in this collection but I always liked the reduction in snap and crackle over the straight pipes. Mine loped exactly like the last bike in this group but with more bass. Awesome!
What a great sound! But I have fallen in love with my EVO!
Love my evo, I have a twin cam as well but it doesnt come close to the evo or shovel
I like my Evo, but loved my rubber mounted 5 speed Shovel 10 times more.
That bike is so well built. perfect proportions! Damn!
Shovelheads forever!✌😎
Music to the ears, simply lovely !!
Music to my ears. The funny thing being that each one has its own particular sound, like fingerprints.❤
I've had my 75 along time. It's always sounded good, rides good, handles good, did I say looks good, looks good. Been paid for awhile now, looks good. I don't know if there is anything more I can say, it looks good. I've never wanted another. I've never seen that the newer ones had anything that mine didn't. Keep the shinny side up
Hi from Washington! Often get told my Shovelhead sounds better then the Evo's or newer Harley Davidson motors. I believe it is because of points ignition, Solid lifters , old Sifton 440T cam.
Solids with 440 Sifton cam and an S&S B series carb full box of taller gears ad 5.5 Pago tanks ,still kikkin my own ass for sellin her .
main reason been looking to get a Harley for that sound hoping to get one before the summer time to ride with you
If they dont play this at my funeral im walking out .........
All unique, all sound great. Hope you neighbors are understanding. 👍👍
They are Iconic. I love these old bikes .They are hard to come by up here in Canada.
I got a 81 shovelhead gave it the LNSPLT make over! I finished it about 2 months ago, to me its the quintessential chopper sound heard by many generations. Shovelheads forever!
Trouble head
I absolutely love those old kick start Harleys! I’m a disabled vet and have to have an electric start cause I can’t kick it. Right now my Harley is down because of old gas. Once I get a little more mobility I’ll be able to clean it out and get it running again. Awesome video, awesome bikes!
Can someone not pop round and help you out? That would be nice...
@@troyhowling2497 If I’m not able to get it fixed myself I can call a mobile motorcycle mech that can come out and get me going again. And it will still be cheaper than taking it down to the Harley dealer. The best therapy for a disabled veteran is wind therapy! They’re is nothing like it. I’d love to get an organized group of disabled veterans together to meet and ride as group. The VA told me to get rid of my Harley and I think you can guess what I told them! I’m an old biker and they can’t take the biker out of me. Just having her sitting in the garage gives me hope! Thanks for the reply!
Had a 47 FL Knucklehead 80" with a cam that was a very nice idol, that shovel is sweet
The idle is so low /slow ......I love it!!
Starves the engine of proper oil pressure.
I just want to say thank you for this delicious symphony!
where i live you dont see many shovelheads around when i take mine to a show i got guys tracking me down to see the bike just because they heard me driving threw the crowd in a sea of new bikes it draws the attention
Sold my 81 Wideglide to restore my 49 Panhead. Wouldn't trade the Pan but sure do REALLY miss my Shovel. 😪
Pure Americana. This should have about a million views in a year's time.
Bellaaaaaa!!!!
Quite possible the best video I’ve ever seen!
Best KZhead video ever! No talking just shovel
They all sound great. I have owned them all. But as far as stock motors go. Ironhead & Evo sportsters sound pretty darn good! Smitty in Vegas
My ironhead with drag pipes used to rattle my neighbors windows across the street. Loved the loping idle.
74 ci Pan Shovel with 4 finned timing cover, S&S Super B carb and a Morris Magneto is Harley heaven for me.
I always loved the sound of my 51 pan when it would kick over and I would advance the distributor and the idle would smooth out and be ready to roar .
I live on an airport flight path and when a spitfire flys over you know the sound, it’s the same with a shovel head. You stop whatever you are doing and watch.
Great video. I had to play it again on surround sound. 👍
Greetings from Greece and congratulations for the great job.
Great video full of great bikes. Take care and stay safe brother. I’m not trying to score brownie points but the last one is a frigid awesome ride.
Can't beat the sound of a Shovel breathing through an SU carb - my own Evo comes close but no cigar! 😎
I have 3 evo. One is a little 1200. Withb1250 kit. Evo is the best . Milwaukee 8 has best power. Pan shovel and nuckel is cool. But.
@@MichaelSmith-lj3fe Nah. Evos are like a kitchen appliance. Yeah, they do the job, but, yawwwn.
I could listen to that put all day
I’m with you. Shovels best sounding engine HD ever churned out. Got a bud that was a dealership mech back in the shovel head days. Now days He builds the best sounding shovels
Sweet sound for me ears. Someday I will buy shovel . I'll have to settle for Evo for now.
Awesome 👌 iv enjoy my old shovelhead just in the middle of making turbo setup for bit of fun 😃
That gold tank bob is awesome
I've got two bikes, a suzuki savage LS650 and a Vn800 neither have a flippin kick start, it's the best way to start up a bike I think... Fantastic 🤘
My youngest son has the same savage
Great video! It would be amazing a small summary of bike models and engines for those of us who would love to learn! Thanks, i loved so hard the 01:55, 02:30, 06:58, 12:20 and 13:50
They need work often but they sound so good!
Love it, nothing else like it about. Thank you.
Shovels for ever.....great vid. Love it.
Gran recopilación. 😎🤘R&R. Cualquier comentario esta 🤤de sobras, abre bien tus conductos 👂🦻auditivos y 🥲disfruta. Saludos from Spain🍻
I don’t know! Yesterday I was out cycling and pulled up next to an old BMW airhead that was made into a bobber and it sounded pretty darn cool! And looked freaking awesome!
I can never hear that sweet loping sound at idle & not think of Van Halen's Hot For Teacher! It really makes me curious to see an overlaid animation of the engine to see why it has such h a unique sound.
I thought I would scan through the comments to see if anyone mentioned that song and here it is. There's a drummer that does a good cover of it here on you tube.
Have a '79 shovel FXEF and a '23 LRS 117 with S&S 475 cam. The M8 sounds pretty sweet also.
Absolutely inlove with the bike at 9 min. Makes me want to look for a shovel head project. Love my evo 1200 though.
6:09 and the bike with the blue tank after are my two favourite. I would love to get a Softail Slim S 110 and put a springer front end on and cams etc.
Standing still the shovel is unbeatable, but moving nothing beats an Evo
Had my 1999 Heritage since new. I put in a Andrews EV27 cam, kept the original CV carb and installed a Thunder Slide kit. Blowing out Vance and Hines Longshots . There's not much out there that sounds better.
@@johngaulding3710 that sounds amazing! Do you have any footage of this beautiful machine?
@@Math4real.Schramm What's funny is I have plenty of pics but no videos. I have never been much on doing either myself. But I could make one.
I have 88 heritage and had a 79 and a 78 1200 shovel. I can't decide. I run single fire dyna . S&S super e and a EV-27 cam with delkrons and Ultima 80 inch wheels and knife blade rods. 1 3/4 shotguns and I good to go. Nice setup for myself for apes !
how about a kawie 900 triple?
They all sound awesome. My back hurts now looking at all the rigids with forward controls.
The blue sportster tank springer's short pipes seem to my ears and chest the more compelling. Makes me wonder if it's because the exiting sound is closest to the origin, the engine. Anyway, love them all~
Bro.. I love.. LOVE the sound of my S&S 80 Evo, but these shovelheads are just gritty and mean.
Im partial to my 1940 UL Flathead motor, which for comparison can be heard at my channel, Slickhead Custom Cycles on KZhead. I also enjoy my ironheads. Im working on buying me a shovel
IRONHEADS FKN RULE!!! 🤘😎🤘
You can quickly recognize them by their sound, the Shovelheads 💥💯
How do they make any oil pressure at such low idle speeds?
I love a shovel. Specifically, a '78 lowrider, with a 56 wide-glide front end!
Now we need a sound compilation of all the Shadows ;)
kzhead.info/sun/pc6ekZWgi5l5jas/bejne.html
Holy POTATOES!! Great video! I have owned two Shovels and yeah, they have the best sound. I still own my 92 Softail and I believe that the Evo is last great sounding engine that Harley ever made.
Lovin' some of these jockey hand shifters
Now I miss my 81 FXWG more than ever. Rode it for 17 years. I don't know why I sold it. I've had my twin cam FXWG for 24 years but, it ain't the same.
At least to my ears, the shovel has the best sound of any H-D powerplant. The machine with the green & flames paint had just the right tone for me...
I'd agree. That romping Shovel, slow rolling canter is a perfect Harley Iron horse sound. Next would be the Evo, Potato Potato Potato tune they put out.
Hell yes. I need a scoot like those. Nice
Sweet note out of them there H Ds , they have that thing about them as if they are going to cut out type of note , but never do , Class .❤
What a SOUND!
I'm leaning towards your shovel. Mostly because it's so familiar. Do you sometimes wish you had a front brake riding through the Bay or nah?
1st one was killer!❤❤❤❤
I had to go start mine after watching this
~~ A beautiful film.
And the answer is an overwhelming YES !!!
My 99 FXS Evo with the same long 2 ' drag pipes sounds the same... it's the low idle combined with the right size diameter length pipes... on a well tuned Evo twin.. they do sound great... best all round dependable engine as well
The loudest exhaust ever is an early shovelhead with the large kidney type bottom end, 1966-1969, 74 cubic inch(1200cc) bored out to 80 cubic inch(1340cc) with straight shorty shotgun pipes. It has a low pitch throaty sound.
Nice. My 103 sounds great too.
Man have you thought about doing a calendar of the bikes you build and your buddies bikes some sweet rides awesome!
