2023 was my purge year! I donated 8 packed-to-the-brim loads in my 3-row SUV of clothes, household goods, furniture, and kids stuff. We uprooted our lives and moved over 2,000 miles away with just 300 cubic feet of stuff as a family of 4. It was so nice to be liberated of all the unused items! We definitely had to spend a good chunk of $ repurchasing furniture when we got here, but it's nice to start fresh!

You mentioned the bench for things you want to wear again before washing: I always hang those things back up and keep at the end of the hanging space. Why make messy piles and let things get wrinkled?

You should put hooks on the back of the door for used clothes instead of putting it on the bench. It will look neater

I’m in the same boat. I started my declutter back in 2017, but since then I been working on concentrating in replacing items with better quality items. For me Decluttering has been such a long process, but also because I think currently there’s lots of more information than when I started. And more motivation with channels like yours.

You could have a “maybe” box stored away, out of sight. If you truly remember it and dig it out, it’s a keeper. After a while just donate the box if nothing is pulled out.

I was a little shock but how your closet looked but, like you said prerviously, life happens and you can't always keep it as neat as you wanted. 1 thing you could do is keep a steamer in your laundry space with your hangers. So, you can steam your laundry before you take it to your closet. Isn’t shouldn’t be embarrassing, because you are Mama, with a Full Time job. That’s just life sometimes. I had to hire a cleaning lady come help me clean, but now my home is clean with all my laundry done. 🧺 Are you going to have your sweatshirts top to bottom stacked, being seen like that, or you going to have them like a file system, like you have in the drawers on those shelves? Were you able to make room for Chad’s items?

I was thinking maybe you could organize shoe and boots on the shelves in the same area, all your bags on the other shelf area. So, you can see all of them at once.
Life is too short to be ironing. If you have to have things super neat, get a handheld steamer. It accomplishes the same thing but in a fraction of the time. Great video!
I would suggest hooks for items you will re-wear. The bench is lovely for sitting and dressing, but flat surfaces only accumulate clutter.

I remember your first Closet /room
I would LOVE to be someone with a basic wardrobe. It would make live so much more easy. But since I feel like I'm always in between sizes it's hard. Gained 7 kilos since covid, now lost 2kilos again.. I'm scared that I will never have clothes that fit properly.

Can I ask a question, please declutering while filming, did it give you more motivation to do it ? . I need a total house decluter but I have so many beautiful things it's hard for me too do but I'm in a home with no storage cupboards not even for a hoover

I have decluttered the wardrobe many times with the intent to only have things I love. It doesn’t ever really happen because of trends and what’s available. Oh yes I loved that sweater but it is tunic and now it looks bad with the pants for sale. My only advice is to keep a wardrobe tiny and moving.

I share part of our closet with my husband. So I can’t keep things on the floor. He may trip over shoes and boots. But he hasn’t said anything. I do keep clothes all over the cedar chest at the bottom of our bed. I clean it off every once in a while. And it needs to be done now. Good luck with the bench in your closet.

I just don’t understand, how many pieces of clothing does a person need?
I'm a retiree and yet have saved 40 years of clothing, work & play. Can I explain why, not really. Its in my way. I dont wear 95% of it in last 5 years. Why is it still here? Why are pants on hangers that have never been worn? I wish I knew why the procrastination to clear the closets. My friend has 7 pairs of socks, 7 days in a week she said, but then her maid does laundry. Me, no maid here. Me, 3 draws full of socks. Why? I wish I could understand it. However, there is a shift in my behavior watching videos like this. Hope for the cluttered.
This isnt konmari folding :/ The way marie kondo folds the items are that they can stand upright by themselves. The idea behind is yes, so you see what you have but the clothes souldnt rely on other items or drawers or so which prevent them from falling to the side. :/
