Check out our DIY on how to make your own #Primitive Clay Oven from a pot bought from our local hardware store in Canada. #Wood-fired Clay #ovens or Tandoors are easily followed back to the 18th Century. A Clay Oven has many names and types such as Tandoor, Earth oven or wood-fired oven. Because they are wood-fired they provide great taste and flavour to whether we are making any type of bread or BBQ alternatives.

It can be used for a variety of things such as bbq/kabob skewers also if a pot or pan is bigger than the opening of Tandoor, it can be used for general slow cooking in pot/pan. We hope it helped 👍🏻

  • I think making it above ground will be easier and u have to bend less while cooking. Plus u dont have to dig a vent and hole. Small air holes will do near the base.

  • As someone else stated below, watch for led in these pots. They are often made somewhere where the quality control is lower, and led and asbestos can be in the clay. other materials also. These are not food grade pots after all, and were made for plants, not heat. I would like to do this, but not sure about what has gone into the pots.

    @maarkaus48@maarkaus483 жыл бұрын
    • Your concern is valid, however, lead is mostly found in glazed Terracotta (Clay) planters or pots/cookware. Unglazed clay do not contain lead. If you are interested in the DIY, there are many home test kits used to determine if a pot has leachable lead or not. As lead is a "toxic substance." This was a fun DIY project which we have done and we assure you that the pot we used has no lead. We hope it helped.

    • That's a valid observation and good advice. After doing some research I found that the high quality UNGLAZED TERRACOTTA pots from Italy are not made with any lead in them. The lead is in the glaze. Cheaper pots from Mexico and India are made with lower standards and are often not properly fired, thus more likely to be unsafe.

    • @@cheeririnaldo435 Thank you for the reply. I am shocked that I spelled it led. I do electronics as a hobby, and was probably thinking of LED's... ah well. I appreciate your input, it sounds like the ones from Italy, might be good. I do like the idea overall.

    @chariddawn6663@chariddawn66633 жыл бұрын
    • Hello Charid, actually it is a very common type of Oven(Tandoor) in Central Asia. Once the wood is fully burned and turns to charcoal it sits down at the bottom of the oven and heat circulates to bake the bread etc. The bread (flatbread) is usually stuck on the walls and other types of food are placed in the oven using long skewers. (Tandoori Chicken etc) Once again as we mentioned in the video, this is merely our attempt/version of DIY Tandoor(Oven).
