800 HP Marine Camshaft Swap - 14.6L Caterpillar 6NZ C-15 Diesel Engine - Peterbilt 379 EXHD
Swapping out the stock 6NZ camshaft for the 10R7155 cam, better known as the 800 horsepower marine cam.
This was just an experiment to see for myself if I would find any immediately noticeable negative effects from running the 10R7155 cam with stock "57" injectors. This is an improper camshaft to injector combination, as I briefly explained in this video.
In the long run, this combination will cause accelerated internal injector wear, accelerated cam lobe and rocker arm/roller wear, and in some cases can eventually cause catastrophic gear train failure as it shakes the weights out of the cam gear due to increased harmonics coming through the cam.
The 10R7155 camshaft properly matches to a "59" injector, which is a much higher flowing injector than a "57". There is very little to be gained by running this cam with "57s", and it will only cause problems in the long run.
Do not mistake this video as me telling anybody that this cam swap alone is an upgrade or something that you should do to increase performance. That is not and never was the intent of this video.
This quarantine has me watching your videos and I don’t even own a Diesel engine. 👍🏻
J.A. ………...me too !!!!!!!!!!!!
lol!
be glad, dirty, noisy as fuck and fuel is more expensive then regular gas.
Zues Toots that noise is torque in music form lol
@@zuestoots5176 not a true trucker
You are a breath of fresh air when it comes to quality of workmanship and attention to detail. Guys like you are rare as hens teeth theses days. No one gives a shit about the work they do or take pride in doing a good and proper job anymore. I salute you sir and would purchase and engine from you in a heartbeat!! RESPECT!!!!
I love the sound of a CAT engine. Makes me miss my old driving days.
Me too.
Me too retirement sucks.
Same here. CAT’s were by far my favorite to run!
Driving one . They are Noisy Compair to other Engine's .lot more Noisy
Nothing beats the Scania V8 with straight pipes, but the CAT sounds good i must say.
It's crazy seeing a complete engine in application. I've installed thousands of peanut covers, head cams, fuel injectors, rocker arms, and tri sensors in thousands of engines but I'm on a pretty early stage of assembly so I don't get to see the finished product unless I see one of our vehicles in the field
That engine sounds wonderful. I love hearing a diesel all tuned and running full power. It is a thing of beauty.
Thats glorious sound of CAT C-15. Nice
It’s definitely hitting
I miss my old girl
I want that as my ring tone!
very nice
I'm from Australia 🌏 and I tell you all I learn a lot from this man I'm grateful he puts videos out there for us
The symphony of this beast says it all- the sound is sublime, plus it burns clean
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I’ll probably never work on a Cat, but I sure enjoy learning about it.
Minute 14:00 I love that music. It made hair grow in my chest. Awesome noise. Thanks for sharing Your videos. Blessings from LA.
When you hear THE turbo THROUGH THE EXHAUST IN THE BED AT FREEWAY SPEED...THAT BEAST IS BREATHING LIKE THE HULK!
It came out good I had to bore n stroke it also
Awesome videos. No over the top shots or explanations and no complicated setup. Easy to follow and easy to watch as well as to the point. Keep up the awesome work.
Good job mate, that engine bay and ancillaries are a credit to you. I always reckoned a real good bloke keeps his own gear well and you exemplified my theory. Informative video as ever, big fan of yours out here in Australia 🇦🇺👌👍🍻
Definitely glad your videos pop up in my notifications, definitely wasn't ever expecting to have content like what you have ever pop up, thank you, keep up the great information videos, and also the humor is nice.
I run a '99 Freightliner with a Cat engine. Had it since '03 and I will never replace it. 1.66 million miles (it had a half million on it when I got it). 8 mpg @ 55 mph. Overhauled at 1,231,000 miles. 435 hp. C-12. Yours sounded SO nice when you lit 'er up!
Dale Fry Why did you overhaul? i did bottom end bearings at 800k for preventative maintenance. at 1.2mil and still running strong! 50 psi of oil pressure running down the road. 03 FLD 113 CAT C-12
I had a c-12 kick a rod out the side of the block with 650k. Cavitation caused it to cut a hole through a sleeve and hydrolic lock. Keep good factory spec coolant in the truck.
You are extremely skilled. Your calm confidence and honesty is what the world needs.
Pretty cool putting the camera in the bed, no wind noise as well! I don't know the first thing about diesels but man, it does sound nice.
single turbo beast
man i'm impressed with you and your work you seem to know your stuff, i like your videos keep up the good work. If i ever rebuild my 07 c15 i would rather have you do it then salt lake cat 20,000 for my 01 and I wasn,t impress with the work they did.
Well done ! You make it appear such a simple task by just having figured out the best way to go...real pleasure to watch, thank you kindly. Enjoy your work. Stating the obvious, you ARE brilliant at it...Touché!
6 in a row ready to tow. With a cat under the hood, life is good. Keep makin great vids man. And that cat dealer guy bobo can shove it
Love your videos, brilliant work.. and that engine sounds amazing
@kt3406e you're a badass, I gave this video a thumbs up before it even started playing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
This channel and adept ape pushed me over the edge I went out and got a western star and am rebuilding it now. Been planning on doing it for years. But watching these guys and reading many detriot service manuals gave me just enough wind in my sails to throw money at a project. Thanks for taking the time to put up these videos and explaining to us how these engines work.
Updated on my western star: because I don’t have a shop or have these skills to rebuild , the engine alone cost 27k to rebuild. Then I have to do the interior myself and have someone repaint it.
@@georgegeorgepht Well it's Been a year now how is it doing man??
@@georgegeorgepht Jesus christ just why?
Love that sound, miss driving my Kenworth back in the 70's
the camera in the bed is a bad ass pov sounds and angles are cool you can see ur heavy and you can see the power ur putting out by how well it is accelerating. cool stuff man
I worked on a few.of these, this one sounds strong for its milage. Plus pulling a full load up to speed that quick must mean that cam is doing its job. A+ work...
I'm an old tractor mechanic. Never worked on any Cat gear however I love the video. I really enjoyed the tailgate camera angle and listening to those two stacks choofing out puffs of coal. Cheers from Oz (Australia)
Sighs wow that start up is nice majestic sound of a strong and healthy Caterpillar engine 🥰
This is another channel with such good competent entertainment, its why I dont have TV anymore. I dont even own a truck (But i drive them for buddies sometimes) Great documentary.
Spot on. Let's ensure TV companies don't take over YT so content creators like KT3406E can continue to produce excellent independent content.
I haven't watched TV for years, now ! Its all repeats of shit here in the UK anyhow...
Here we have a Skidoo clutching guru watching CAT truck engine builds! Just awesome
@@mhp0810 companies have fully taken over youtube and made everything algorithms and advertising. KZhead channels like this are essentially nonexistent unless you are looking in videos like it. Its why I dislike youtube /google. They absolutely ruined everything back in 2012 when they took away freedom and individuality from this site. You used to get on youtube and the videos we're truly 100% random all the time, everything in the suggested areas on the side was videos of stuff completely irrelevant from eachother, youtube content didn't follow any sort of formulas back then it was random and unpredictable all the time, now you have to go out of your way to try and find good videos and it's always trying to find what you "want to watch more of" its a fucking bullshit ass lie nobody ever wanted any of it they just think everyone wants to see the same thing all the time without even asking us
This dude is amazing. The know how to do all this on motors sounds like it comes natural to him.
Self taught
I am in awe at your skill set and that C-15 sounds like a dream
Can’t wait to hear what you think of it after you drove it. Sounds good. Would love to see you try a polished exhaust manifold and a Switchblade turbo. Love this channel and the things you do.
Got a love the sound of that cat! And your work is always first class! I truly enjoy watching your videos. I learn from everyone of them!!!
BFH is a must in any good diesel mechanics shop!! nothing cooler than an older pete with a Cat. sparks up nostalgia like a barbecue in the summer 👍
Very cool videos man, you do high quality work. I’d love to see some more of the actual work being done! 👍
Trick for getting the peanut cover bolts out is to use an air hammer powered bit holder. I use one called a " shaker", light rotation while being easy on the trigger. It works equally amazing on floor pan #3 Phillip's as well for those trucks that spend time in the mines or haul roads
Awesome video! Quick tech tip if you have the tools plus time. It's always a good idea to replace cam shaft bearings and inspect oil galleries to ensure no rework and the manufacture doesn't reject warranties if anything goes bad with the camshaft coming out of the factory.
The awesome sound of big diesel sixes. I’d love to hear her pulling up a decent grade feeding it gears! Keep up the great work👍
Why use a sock in the Pererbilt? I truly don’t what that is for?
One of the best channels on youtube!! I could listen to that wonderful c-15 all day long! that thing sounds so badass! and you sir have a beautiful truck!
Love that sound, nice work man!
Cardboard is the BEST work mat along with placing engine parts along with either blue towells or huck towells.
And for oil spills. Because they happen right where you're working. Let the cardboard soak up the oil for a little while and you don't need to throw down as much speedy dry. I'll just put cardboard down first if I know a cover I remove is gonna drool all over.
@@MrTheHillfolk I agree it is awesome on that!!!
@@MrTheHillfolk Better than hoping to find parts in the grass.
@@ccaissie113 Love me some old appliance boxes. Getting a new water heater is a win win.... Hot water , and a new cardboard creeper for the shop 🤣
Pig brand oil mats
That's one sweet truck and motor. Thanks for posting
Sweet music to my ears, WOW can't get better than that engine.
Very informative and entertaining video. I really enjoy learning about stuff like this and you make it real. Thanks a ton!!
I really enjoy these videos. So informative...and funny.
Sounds good, running nice and clean!!
I gave this video a thumbs up before it even started playing. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
The lack of service brakes makes me happy. Grew up in a canyon town and had to listen to the Jake brakes of all the log haulers coming down the hill into my town. Best lullaby ever. Thank you for the big rig content
Iam glad there meachics like your self that take pride in there work and passion for Engines and Machine your better then me and the guys I worked at dealerships .
Brilliant video waiting for the next one already 😎
I love the sound of that exhaust when pulling hard. I could listen to it all day.
my subwoofer liked it too! not sure about my neighbors tho...
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your craft and knowledge with men that truly appreciate it, not like negative boso's.....
Good job Been a while since I seen one apart like that brings back some memories.
Damn dude, you're something else. Nice job!
Hey my friend it's nice to see there is mechanics out there that go the extra mile to do it right, OUTSTANDING VID that's mad power to the ground!!!
That thing sounds awesome, nice work
Great video!👍 It sounds like it's running nice and strong, and without just smoking like some of the other "tuners" can fix.... "Here you have your truck, it blacksmoke like hell now so you can't even see enything behind you, sooo now it have 1000hp" Your work looks really great, and I believe a engine build like that will last for ever👌 Cheers from Northern Sweden 🍻
Hey Bro, I really love your shed, it's the ultimate man cave, cheers from Australia:-))
we call them shops here. sheds are usually small 6x6ish garden sheds for hand tools and some junk
You think of a shed, for the mower and garden rakes Haha, but that's some workshop you have 👍👍👍. Think it looks great. But that engine SOUNDS LIKE MUSIC. Keep them coming. Geoff Lewis, Wales, UK 🏴🏴🏴
All I know is.. that truck was pulling that load with ease! Thanks for sharing! Larry
Glad I found this channel 💪🏼 lots of good info
Jeez, this thing hauls 80,000lbs to speed faster than my Pete 330 at 18,000. Nice. Also, did you say this thing has 750,000 miles on it? Somebody was Johnny on the spot with their oil changes, this engine is CLEAN!! Well done sir!
That motor has been overhauled, however some of the outside stuff was reused which unless its worn out, is perfectly fine and done everyday. However he was smart to change that damper. I had a 12.7 detriot that snapped a crank boss and I'm pretty sure that was the reason, was a worn damper.
You right is a Cat Reman.
This is a damn good video!
I am here for big trucks. Wasn’t disappointed well done. As a mechanic I love seeing stuff I have no idea about. Learning makes the jobs fun. Well done.
Great video. And thanks for showing the finished product run out. Love to hear those CATs work!
Hey great videos im a Jamaican truck driver on loving them very much and learning alot too
Shout out from another Missourian. Love the vids.
A lot of nice rigs in Missouri.
Enjoy watching your material! Keep it up!!
You are so insightful and patient, you need to be hired by a Diesel Mechanic School to teach. Your a natural instructor because you understand the detail processes of starting and finishing with a completed task.
Glad to see a new video from you, brotha! The truck sounds great and I've learned alot from the vids. Keep 'em comin'!
Thanks for your work
Dude, genious. Im mesmerized by your knowledge. Im that way with cars, and ive only had a short expierience with big trucks, the way you break stuff down gets me hooked. And i think i know where you were out haulin by. Not too far from me. And youre a young dude too, and i think took, and take to the big trucks naturally. Awesome work.
Looks like you might be located down around Dexter or Bloomfield, MO. Good video, as usual. I have never owned or operated big trucks like these but I always learn something about them watching these videos. Keep up the great work.
Love your Channel I'm a lifelong mechanic 64 years old worked on just about everything .>>really enjoy your videos couldn't exactly tell you why but I do ::::keep up the good work kid I've had to deal with these dudes supposed Factory experts who never spun wrench just remember that dude Bobo will be working at the parts counter till the day he dies trying to pass himself off as an expert he will end up retiring from Joe's Auto Parts with a f****** gold watch.>> gold plated

Happy trails my friend 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Sounds great and hope you have a wonderful Christmas and Good Luck in 2023 and hopefully fuel prices will come down soon.
Great video! I'm getting my first diesel vehicle soon. Looking forward to doing some maintenance on it in the future.
I have a friend who is an executive at CAT. He's a great guy, but I believe that hamstringing truckers, farmers, commercial fishermen, etc., with proprietary maintenance restrictions is what is driving many independents out of business. America was not built on those principles! It was built by guys like you, who are independents and scratch out a living by doing, learning and becoming experts at what they do. Do some independents buy black market (China) programs to help them with proprietary codes, passwords and such? Of course, but they have no choice if they want to remain profitable and independent in the first place. These codes, passwords, etc, should be part of the purchase price of the equipment and should be transferrable as well. An unforeseen consequence of this is guys keeping older equipment running for years/decades because they don't require the queertrons to fix a simple time critical maintenance issue.
It’s by design. Big business is pushing these things on purpose so they can take over small business.
Hey Cowboy EPIC VIDEO MY MAN Well done.. Ur killin the KZhead diesel Truck game
Great video my friend enjoyed watching you pulling the cam out gave me another view of the internals. So many negative comments trying to pick an argument my thoughts ignore and move on to the positive. Keep up the great videos cheers from Nova Scotia Canada
