There isn't a MK III TC 1.7 teleconverter. The last version was MkII. Also, the TC20E III is much better than the previous iterations. It was released alongside the 300mm F2.8G ED VRII and provides outstanding results for such a high level of magnification. That being said, I have heard wonderful things about the Z mount Teleconverters. I hope they make some more lenses that are compatible with them!

Very nice review Christopher! I just picked up a new 70-200 F2.8 S lens (well...traded in a bunch of equipment to get 3 different lenses) but I did not consider the 1.4 TC. I might just pick one up (one of these days). Although, at CA $730 it might be a very long while - lol. Thanks for posting!

Another brilliant review and I avoided all Tele converters like the plague in my Nikon and Canon gear. This review I will have to re examine tele converters if I go to Mirrorless format in future from my D5 and D6 plus the Canon 1dx mark iii

Honestly, it has completely made me rethink teleconverters. I think we are going to see a lot more innovation. I've been wondering if it has anything to do with the fact that the actual optics of the converter are closer to the sensor? It's an interesting question to ponder. I think it is probably a combination of many factors. Enjoy your current cameras, the D5 is a beast - haven't seen a D6 in the flesh yet!

This is untrue, cropping an image reduces the effective aperture, so it would be an equivalent 420mm f/5.6; basically the same as just using a 2x TC. There is no such thing as a free lunch with optical physics.
@Bayonet18092 жыл бұрын
So my next question, is there really a difference between the 1.4x teleconverter and just cropping with the 70-200z on its own ?
@seanstours39133 жыл бұрын
Well, if you crop you lose resolution and image quality. It’s an option if printing small but not if you need the resolution. Perhaps an option on the Z7 II but I think it’s a push on the Z6/Z6 II. If you can avoid cropping you’ll always get a better image.
