Hello! Today I want to present to you a new restoration of the Japanese KATANA Sword.

my heart cries.. this is end of a noble katana.
consider it was beyond redemption with that much rust......also, you never heat treat a blade in broad daylight.....should be done in darken conditions to see the right color before quenching...

戦後、米軍に持ち去られた刀（蛍丸など）がこんな保存をされて、こんな風に扱われているなら悲しいことだ。
残念以外の言葉を 見つけることは出来ない。 みるも、無残な事になってしまった様です。 あの当初の歪みからは、焼身の可能性は否定出来ないとも思われますが、日本刀の修復は、この様な技術では出来ない事は、明白です。

何も考えずただピカピカにしただけですね
動画冒頭で、日本刀に特有の刀身の反りがあまり無いことから、おそらく火災に遭遇した刀身と推測しました。つまり最低限の復元でさえ、本当に詳しい鍛冶師でなければ不可能でした。 温度の不安定な焚き火で焼いたことで、反りがさらに減っています。これは鋼の質が落ち、硬い刃物ではなく形を保てないほど柔らかい鉄板になった明確な証拠です。 最後のペットボトルカットですが、本物の日本刀ならばボトル下部は台座に残ります。これはそれだけ鋭利に切る、そして切る以外の圧力を与えないことを示します。台座から吹き飛ぶのは、切るではなく押しのける力が発生しています。 本当に、本当に残念ですが、この刀は日本刀としては死んでしまったようです。

I think the blade is not a katana blade.It looks like a cavalry saber.That gives me comfort to know that no Japanese sword should ever be treated with such disregard.

同感です。もし本物の平造りなら、「何してくれてんだ！」と殴りに行ってるところです。 玉鋼ならあんな錆の付き方しませんから、真似て作った偽物でしょう。
Re heating the blade to straighten it is a no no....the blade structure has severely been weakened

I read these comments and am trying to understand your history, pride & disappointment in this sword being treated so. I also thought of your initial Ancestral Katana makers and the years it took to create one blade. The power tools used for the restoration had me realize how long just drilling a hole or any slot opening in metal, hammering the layers of steel that had to be made, etc. Please reply why this isn't correct so you can educate me. Many thanks...
Thus, the Japanese Katana became a mere iron sword...
I would have done things differently, but it was dead and done as whatever it was but got a second life. It might not even be Japanese. It has some peculiar features. China and Korea made some very katana like swords.
@@shinobi1kenobi75 these channels are all the same, they get some flea market junk and then sit it in a rust bath. notice they're almost always the same bright orange color. Then call fixing the damage into a worse state than it began as "restoration". These guys are just 3rd worlders begging for views with no idea how a well made sword is to be done.

栄光と力の帰還と称して、全力で刀を只の鉄の棒にぶっ壊していくスタイル、、、、 錆落としまではギリギリなんとかなったかもだけど、火にかけてヤスリにかけた所で致命的だぁ 何かの職人さん何だろうけど酷すぎるな、最低限勉強して欲しい、、、
いや，錆取り液NGです． うち鍛冶屋だったんで，これよりもっと朽ち落ちた刀が仕事場から出てきて，錆取り液に漬けた事があります． 当然中和しないといけない訳だけど，現代の鋼材と違って，玉鋼の粒子構造の中に液が染み込むらしく，中和しきれずに内側から無限にサビが湧いて来るようになりました． もともと無価値の刀の残骸でしかなかった(祖父がどこぞから入手したらしく，その時からボロボロで鑑定も通らなかったらしい)とは言え，それでもサビ取り液に漬けた罪悪感と後悔はしましたね．日本人として．
Парень, ты убийца мечей! Зонная закалка тем и хороша, что клинок свободно рихтуется на холодную. Но рихтуется без ударов. Ни в коем случае нельзя было греть клинок. Такие клинки калятся только один раз. Спуски сведены, и тонкая кромка при нагреве, теряет весь углерод. В общем на это больно смотреть.....
Эта железяка - новодел вымоченный в курином дерьме с глиной. Ребята контент пилят вот и всё.

малость понимаю о чем речь, приходилось... но никогда не видел "просто" какой либо закалки, . когда деталь не имеет даже темно вишневый цвет свечения нагрева!!!! о чем может идти речь?, а вот когда правил клинок нагрел до отпуска!!!
@@user-pq2sq9un7b Да не нужно было его вообще греть, просто выровнять между двух деревянных рычагов. На соревнованиях по тамэсигири, специально присутствует такой человек, который рихтует клинки мечей. Он "вооружен" двумя деревянными колодками в виде рычагов, и если у "самурая" рука дрогнет, то этот человек выравнивает клинок. Зонная закалка тем и хороша, что клинки легко гнутся и так же легко выравниваются. Ну тут я конечно погорячился, согнуть клинок не так то просто, но такое иногда происходит. Потом, термичка тонкой полосы. У Японцев там идёт два вида глины, одна из них наносится на будущую кромку и препятствует обезуглероживания. А в этом ролике, ничего подобного нет!!!!! Мало того что уничтожен первоначальный рисунок хамона, так ещё и углерод выгорел на кромке. И такую полосу если и дасться единиц на 45-50 закалить, то это будет ещё и отлично. Только вот заточку держать, такой клинок уже не сможет.... По этому опять повторюсь, что ролик о том как испортить хорошую вещь.....

@@GySgtHassle it was trashed to begin with.....too much rust....removing that much metal exposes the inner core....it would be dangerous to us in cutting bamboo...cutting water bottles is OK, maybe.....
片刃のようですね。残念ながこれは日本刀ではなく、マグロなどを解体する包丁だろうと思われます。 以前、東京の築地市場でこの包丁を見たことがあります。 日本刀は両刃です。お間違えのないようにお願いします。 それにしても、荒っぽい復元ですなぁ !!

サビ取り・磨くのもいいけど、やっぱ技術が必要だしプロに頼むとかになるけど再度焼き入れて叩き直した方が良さそうな気がする
That blade you pulled out of the solution was suspiciously free of rust pitting.

Fake rust
Such amount of rust should left deep pockmarks in the blade, just two options: fake rust or another blade.

Блин, ну с рукоятью накосячил, моё почтение. Обмотка шнуром на отъ...сь. бляшек "менукэ" нет. С цубой, то-же косяк на косяке. На цубе катаны, должно быть два отверстия, для малого ножа, и "швайки". Для развызывания шнуров. Нож и "щвайка", соответственно в пазах ножен. Нож с наружи, "швайка" внутри.

Try die maker stones of various grits. Gesswein makes good stones. Use with WD40. Your life will change. Nice work!
The way an authentic katana is made it wouldn’t bend
I beg to differ! In world war 2, the swords that were being made were very cheaply produced. I have 4 genuine WW2 officer swords and two of them are bent! There where massed produced ones and hand made ones. Usually the hand made ones went to the higher ranked officers.
Agree with Figjamxlaststar. I've seen many blades bend in use (lived in Japan, studied battodo in Japan) and they can be bent back true; that is the beauty of a well-made Japanese sword.

take too much metal off, the blade will be thin and weak if inner core is exposed....this katana looks to be severely rusted...however, is that rust or a coating that is being removed?
Not a real sword (katana), but the job you did to bring it back to good condition is was very well done. I applaud your work. Well done.
That all depends on what you think a real Katana is...if you mean ancient you are correct but a Katana doesn't have to be old to do its job. Katana just means blade and it looks like a blade to me. I'm pretty sure it would take your arm off if a skilled person used it.
Not a real katana, presumably not made of the superior magical ancient steel.
For me à katana remain a sword made of strong Steel and manufactured by a very competent blacksmith

Nice wall hanger, if you tried to strike something hard with it the handle would probably snap in half, since the tang is only half-length.
Nice resto but this is a mass produced sword made for the lower ranks, genuine katanas were reserved for the officer class who often carried family katanas which often were priceless relics hundreds of years old.
yep, and that old katanas, hundreds of them was stolen by drunken yankee soldiers that still they have it

So - Hatori Hanzo lives! Here's a tip. Next time you might find even thicker plate for the Tsuba, find a scrap manhole cover - those can be up to 3/4 inches thick. Nice way to find an alternative use for firewood in the Tsuka BTW, PLUS - you noted how the Japanese never got the Mekugi material right, and inventively used -was it steel instead? Aluminium? Nice work, bro.... 😢😢😢
i am supprised that there were no markings on the sword as to tell which master made it or an indication of its histroy.

The author should come to Japan and study how to make a real Japanese sword.

With a thick heavy "tsuba" and Christmas ribbon for the "tsuka ito," with the blade ridge ground flat, any existing hamon (temper line) destroyed, and the temper annealed out of the blade, leaving it soft, it's now too dangerous to be a child's toy, and far too ugly to be anything else. What was originally worth very little is now completely worthless. I'd pay money to keep it OUT of my house!

The Tsuba should NOT weight as much as the damn blade. Grinding down to 1/3 of the thickness would have been closer.
There's always something to learn here, first, a true Japanese sword Smith aut to have a similar video with a sword in similar condition, ànd show the world how to properly restore a katana.

As a Japanese person, I cannot recognize this as a Katana.
Its obviously a military grade sword, and not a samurai sword..but many folks dont know the difference.

The sword blade, which had rust removed by a rough process, showed a good figure and ground surface. The act of scraping rust off the stem and blushing the sword blade with high heat is a ruinous and barbaric act against Japanese swords. A valuable cultural asset was lost in front of my eyes through ignorant torture.
It was a fake katana. No Hamon. No smith's signature (admittedly some smiths didn't put a signature). Warped. Fake rust (no rust pitting) and the groove was only on 1 side.
I agree with you in the sense this "katana" was a fake. I mean... how could it get so rusted? It´s beyond me!

This blade was not made in the traditional bladesmith manner, as a samurai katana would have been. As said elsewhere, it has no hammon, & it has a fuller, which samurai blades did not have. If the blade is of genuine Japanese origin, it's very likely a factory-made blade for a WWII Japanese officer or NCO sword, of which they made a great many.
No pitting tells me this is fake I found a real navy sword, and then had lots of pitting when I remove the rust, and the pitting is very deep not sure how to remove it, but this sword had none of that pity that I found in mine
You have patience and skill and as a result a fine knife is being reborn.

That length looks more like a wakizashi than a katana.
Still too big for a wakizashi imo .. probably a WW2 Japanese officers sword - more of a "status" accessory - than a weapon that can help actually win swordfights

At first I thought it was an NCO type-95 blade, but the mekugi-ana looks too far down to be one. The comments below in Japanese are very interesting and spot-on. A couple of comments in English about the blade being a fake because "Katana did not have fullers", and "real katana do not bend" are totally incorrect -- as any collector or iai/batto/kenjutsu person knows. I'm just glad this blade was not a Horii or Gassan blade from the 1930s or 1940s!!! Additionally, any sharp object can cut with enough velocity. A water bottle is not a good analogue -- in Japan we use moistened rolled up tatami-omote (rice matting that covers tatami), green bamboo of varying thicknesses, and sometimes tatami-omote wrapped around a green bamboo "bone". Thess types of target are good analogues of cutting through living bone, arm or neck.

Вместо закалки за воронил . Потом сам же стер воронение наждачкой :) Линия хамона не получилась . Нельзя сказать чтобы не пытался :) Может ее проще было бы сымитировать? Например воронилкой покарасить лезвие , и оставить кромку лезвия не крашеной

это фэйк а не реставрация/восстановление,посмотри у него на всех видосах одно и тоже,ржавчину снимает а там идеальная поверхность,после такого налёта коррозии раковины должны быть моё почтение

Если это был настоящий клинок, то хамон там уже есть. Его всего лишь надо было подрихтовать холодным, отшлифовать и отполировать. Имитировать ничего не надо. Сунув клинок в печь, "мастер" испортил его неисправимо - японский клинок калится первый раз, он же и последний. Ввиду такой специфики, фатальным дефектом было отломленное остриё - кисаки. Трещина на самом клинке позволяла укоротить его и сформировать новый хвостовик. Поэтому из дайто можно было сделать сёто, кайкен, кодзука и прочее, пока не останется нож-косач.

Как только сунул его в печь, меч на этом закончился, его калят в первый раз - он же и последний. Похоже, умелец не в курсе, что холодной рихтовке поддаётся и закаленное изделие. Например, длинные закаленные и отпущенные свёрла из быстрореза рихтуют перед шлифовкой. Это я видел на инструментальном заводе и тогда удивился, что это возможно. Потом и сам рихтовал заготовки ножей, после шлифовки их нередко ведёт.

It looks to be a WWII officer's sword. They were not folded in the traditional tradition, but were made of plain steel. They could be sharpened like a razor, but were of relatively low quality. None the less it is a katana.
I'm not an expert but some of the things I saw done there especially with heat made me worried. Reading the comments I was right. Ok wall decoration though and it did kill that plastic water bottle !
