How to make PICKLED SHRIMP! This stuff is great.
Recipe: Use 8 cups vinegar and 6 cups sugar if you want to back the sweetness down a bit. Some folks go only 4 cups sugar but I like the sweet!
Put shrimp in a one gallon jar put a layer of shrimp and salt. (canning salt) use a total of 1 and 1/3 cups of salt and then cover with white vinegar.
Put it in the frig for 5 days shaking once every day.
After 5 days rinse of all the salt and vinegar.
Put the shrimp in fresh water and ice cubes for 1 hour.
In a pot put 8 cups of white vinegar, 5 to 7 cups of sugar, and
1/3 cup pickling spice, and 1/4 cup white zinfandel wine.
Bring to a boil and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes then cool until
cold. Put your shrimp in the gallon jar layered with sweet onions and pour the cooled mixture over the shrimp and onions and put it in the frig for at least 3 to 5 days before eating.
It lasts..... not very long! About 6 weeks to 2 months easy!
Enjoy!

My heart hurts reading that he passed away. I remember watching him on my old account years ago when he was on a boat and it was the coolest most delicious episode. What is bizarre is that I often think of him when working with seafood and that is often. I love him though I did not know him. I’m going to make this and name it after him. Thank you for keeping this channel going. It’s incredible as it is delicious. 🦞❤️👨🏻🍳
Your so welcome! Thanks for the comment! :)
I lived this guy's personality. I never knew him personally, but I could tell he is a great guy! And what a wealth of knowledge
What? He's dead. OMG such a sweet man.
I know, I regret never meeting him. He was one of my first subs when I finally/reluctantly joined Utube.
@@CookingwithShotgunRed I just watched (again) one of Red's videos. I only wish I was one of the fortunate people who knew and enjoyed him during his lifetime. He was so genuine and down to earth, he was comfortable with himself, and loved sharing his enthusiasm with other people. You were a great example of how to live live with purpose and grace and will not be forgotten. I'll keep going back and learning from your videos. Thanks Sheila for soldering on, I look forward to your recipes as much as I did Reds! You are a gem!
This man has made me smile with all the awesome Recipes. God bless Him
So sad, he had the greatest personality and my heart goes out to Sheila..he was a good man. I wish you all the best
Thanks!
Did he die yet?

@@CookingwithShotgunRed , oh no! I'm so sorry. Dang, this is the first time I saw any episode. Please tell his wife and family I send my condolences. God bless
Thank you Shotgunner!
that's a nice container too, its square and fits in the frig without any problem. its food grade too! and I like the wide mouth lid. I will have to try these, im on the gulf coast of Florida, the vinegar cooks the food that is put in it. white or apple cider works the same as long as it is 5% acidity! the flavor is a little different.
Ten Second Rule! I Laughed our loud. Thanks for taking the time to share your recipe !
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a good dude! I'll be watching all of the videos and trying a lot of them!

I would try it for sure!! Not sure if I would be a fan or not, but it would be an interesting experience at the least! thanks for sharing
Only use 5 to 6 cups of sugar with the 7 cups of vinegar ... once you nibble on some onions you will be hooked! Thanks Steve
Dang, looks good, thank you

I always liked fish done like this, going to give this a try too. Good job Steve! So are you guys land-lubbers now? going to miss your garden setup you had on the dock and fish fry videos too. thanks for posting.
I am going to do a fryinsaucer video soon... neat cooker... Thanks. You can see them cookers at... fryinsaucer.com
delicious recepie. I've done it several times already. Question: what is the purpose of the ice bath that the scrimps are in before the second step? What hapens if you just take them out of the salt-vinegar mixture, wash them and put them in the sweet mariade?
I love this show I’m from memphis
Awe thank you so much!!! Glad your here!!! :) Hello Memphis!
wowwwwwwwww .i ll have to try that.. love yalll.. keep going

I shall do this in his memory, now he and Justin Wilson will be cookin some good eats
Great video very entertaining
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
I grew up in South Dakota and for the past few years have been living in the Marshall Islands where I fish every chance I get. I'm always looking for a new way to cook my fish up and got to craving the pickled Northerns that my cousin makes up back in SoDak which is when I found the pickled fish video. It's been a big hit (people ask if they can buy it off me...no, but I'll GIVE you a jar) and I'm now I'm really looking forward to giving this shrimp version a try. I tried cutting back the 8/7 vinegar/sugar ratio on the fish to 8/6 and find it's plenty sweet without being too much so, just personal preference. Keep up the great videos!
Good call... I do the 8/7 or 8/6 split once in awhile. I do the 50/50 so folks can remember it. I figure they will cut the sugar down a bit if they want to. Thanks Again...
Love his personality! Sad I just got here as well but these recipes will live on! Rest In Peace shotgun 💕
Thank you!
Delicious
Thank you 😋
This was quite interesting. I've done eggs before. I'm gonna give this a try.
Hope you like it!
I live in the self proclaimed "Shrimp Capital of the World" (that was then this is now) cue Forrest Gump Fresh Shrimp of any size is so delicious and available here even though Fed Laws have chased most of our Shrimpers to move to Mexico. I don't eat (any) sugar anymore so.... I change up the recipe a bit (well actually a lot) I use unpasteurized Raw Vinegar (not heated either) No Sugar and add Garlic Cloves and Pepper Flakes which / then after a couple days of fermenting really cuts down the amount of sugar from the Onions and DANG it ends up crispy GOOD Onions w some shrimp (because I like Shrimp)
Wish more shrimp came Michigan way instead if that china crap I won't buy
Do you mean like apple cider vinegar with the "Mother"? Dont think ive seen raw white vinegar.
Not a fish lover but pickled herring is great. Just read below, RIP.
Looks good red
Thanks Bill!! :)
I just made the pickled shrimp for the first time, I haven't tried it yet but I know its going to be good and then I scrolled down to read the comments and I am upset to hear that this man had passed away. He is making good food with the all mighty right now Im sure... Take care. Matt from BG KY.
Thank you for a sweet comment
Thanks!
You bet!
That looks awesome! Ever do pickeled red beet eggs? Thats right up your alley Shotgun Red!
Hate to hear this guy passed away his recipes are very good and easy to learn.
Thanks!
Oh man!! You melt me! I have had pickled eggs, pickled pigs feet, pickled okra, pickled beans, asparagus....never pickled shrimp. I LOVE SHRIMP!!! Now we gotta work on pickled peanuts. LOL, I love boiled peanuts. I am sure you have an idea for that.
Thanks for watching!
I have now created my own Shotgun Red Playlist.
Pickled Shrimp and Onions! You can use 7 cups vinegar and only 5 or 6 cups sugar and still get a good product!
How about garlic cloves instead of onions. Not a big onion fan myself, but I might have to try this one.
I like a couple of Jalapeno peppers
Well there ya go!!! That would make a nice addition.
I was just thinking a little heat might go well with the tangy sweet.
This randomly showed up in my suggested videos. The title was intriguing. The host has this genuine manner about him that made me care about his friends, community, etc. Check the comments and I'm heartbroken to discover that he's passed. God speed, bud! You made my day.

does it have to be kept in fridge after it made 5 days ?

I know this is an older video but I love this recipe. It's the best pickled shrimp I have tried. Sad to hear the news that the very talented Steve Hall is no longer with us. Such a nice man. Perhaps Miss Shelia, you will see this comment & be able to tell me if I can water bath/can these pickled shrimp or fish so I can keep several jars on the shelf or as gifts for friends. I fear the shrimp will get too tough from the heat of canning & the fish will all but dissolve & turn to mush. Any help you or anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for being a new subscriber! Your family here. Thanks also for a nice compliment about Steve.
Any recommendation on how to make a Old-Bay sauce for the Raw recipe, I have found many that cook it, how ever I like the raw idea to make it simple. I would love to have more non sweet idea's as well. thank you in advance
Great suggestion! Steve passed away Dec 2018.
