How to make PICKLED SHRIMP! This stuff is great.

2016 ж. 2 Шіл.
362 070 Рет қаралды

Recipe: Use 8 cups vinegar and 6 cups sugar if you want to back the sweetness down a bit. Some folks go only 4 cups sugar but I like the sweet!
Put shrimp in a one gallon jar put a layer of shrimp and salt. (canning salt) use a total of 1 and 1/3 cups of salt and then cover with white vinegar.
Put it in the frig for 5 days shaking once every day.
After 5 days rinse of all the salt and vinegar.
Put the shrimp in fresh water and ice cubes for 1 hour.
In a pot put 8 cups of white vinegar, 5 to 7 cups of sugar, and
1/3 cup pickling spice, and 1/4 cup white zinfandel wine.
Bring to a boil and simmer for 3 to 5 minutes then cool until
cold. Put your shrimp in the gallon jar layered with sweet onions and pour the cooled mixture over the shrimp and onions and put it in the frig for at least 3 to 5 days before eating.
It lasts..... not very long! About 6 weeks to 2 months easy!
Enjoy!

  • My heart hurts reading that he passed away. I remember watching him on my old account years ago when he was on a boat and it was the coolest most delicious episode. What is bizarre is that I often think of him when working with seafood and that is often. I love him though I did not know him. I’m going to make this and name it after him. Thank you for keeping this channel going. It’s incredible as it is delicious. 🦞❤️👨🏻‍🍳

    • @@CookingwithShotgunRed I just watched (again) one of Red's videos. I only wish I was one of the fortunate people who knew and enjoyed him during his lifetime. He was so genuine and down to earth, he was comfortable with himself, and loved sharing his enthusiasm with other people. You were a great example of how to live live with purpose and grace and will not be forgotten. I'll keep going back and learning from your videos. Thanks Sheila for soldering on, I look forward to your recipes as much as I did Reds! You are a gem!

I will have to try these, im on the gulf coast of Florida, the vinegar cooks the food that is put in it. white or apple cider works the same as long as it is 5% acidity! the flavor is a little different.

  • I grew up in South Dakota and for the past few years have been living in the Marshall Islands where I fish every chance I get. I'm always looking for a new way to cook my fish up and got to craving the pickled Northerns that my cousin makes up back in SoDak which is when I found the pickled fish video. It's been a big hit (people ask if they can buy it off me...no, but I'll GIVE you a jar) and I'm now I'm really looking forward to giving this shrimp version a try. I tried cutting back the 8/7 vinegar/sugar ratio on the fish to 8/6 and find it's plenty sweet without being too much so, just personal preference. Keep up the great videos!

    @dirk1088@dirk10887 жыл бұрын
    • Good call... I do the 8/7 or 8/6 split once in awhile. I do the 50/50 so folks can remember it. I figure they will cut the sugar down a bit if they want to. Thanks Again...

I don't eat (any) sugar anymore so.... I change up the recipe a bit (well actually a lot) I use unpasteurized Raw Vinegar (not heated either) No Sugar and add Garlic Cloves and Pepper Flakes which / then after a couple days of fermenting really cuts down the amount of sugar from the Onions and DANG it ends up crispy GOOD Onions w some shrimp (because I like Shrimp)

  • I just made the pickled shrimp for the first time, I haven't tried it yet but I know its going to be good and then I scrolled down to read the comments and I am upset to hear that this man had passed away. He is making good food with the all mighty right now Im sure... Take care. Matt from BG KY.

  • Pickled Shrimp and Onions! You can use 7 cups vinegar and only 5 or 6 cups sugar and still get a good product!

    • How about garlic cloves instead of onions. Not a big onion fan myself, but I might have to try this one.

  • This randomly showed up in my suggested videos. The title was intriguing. The host has this genuine manner about him that made me care about his friends, community, etc. Check the comments and I'm heartbroken to discover that he's passed. God speed, bud! You made my day.

  • I know this is an older video but I love this recipe. It's the best pickled shrimp I have tried. Sad to hear the news that the very talented Steve Hall is no longer with us. Such a nice man. Perhaps Miss Shelia, you will see this comment & be able to tell me if I can water bath/can these pickled shrimp or fish so I can keep several jars on the shelf or as gifts for friends. I fear the shrimp will get too tough from the heat of canning & the fish will all but dissolve & turn to mush. Any help you or anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.
