Woah!! I never knew there was GLASS inside a glowstick
Vladimir Djordjevic ni ja
Why
The glass is the thing you break
My family and I figured it out when we got some glowing bouncy balls. They came with two glass capsules inside that you had to break by forcefully slamming the ball onto a hard surface. It took a lot of force.
I’ve known that since I was 4, common sense.
Paint on a canvas with the coloured vials, then spray the clear activator over it! 😊
It would look great, that's a cool idea!
YES!!
I'll do that. If it becomes a world-famous masterpiece, YOU GET THE CREDIT.
ooh cool idea! the problem with that, is it wouldn't last for very long...
@@annabelled4002 but a blacklight would make it glow so it could just be a blacklight painting
If you can find a type of soap that will get the glow stick solution to emulsify you should make a glowing bubble solution then put it in your hydrogen bubble making system and send glowing hydrogen bubbles into the air particularly at night!!
i want to see them fill bubbles with hydroxy gas. Then they pop really loud when you light them
Brandon Allen great idea 👍 👍👍👍
One of the substances in the glowsticks should be an ester, which feels oily, but isn't oil. Because of this, there won't be any kind of soap, which he can use to emulsify.
Yeah! That wouldbe awesome. :)
Also SET THEM ON FIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!💥💥💥💥💥💥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
When you mixed the colors, it looks like you harvested the glowing sun
Tape the glow-sticks on fireworks and watch them go BOOM!
A L YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS
The light from the fireworks would overwhelm it's glow.
The would but once it’s done there would be glow everywhere use caution thou glow sticks have glass in them
One problem with that.. The glass
Oh no, oh no.. nonononono!!
Since the blue glow fluid was clear but then glowed under a black light could you try to use it to be invisible ink?
Jacob Churchward Truered11 I guess you could
woah that would be super cool
Jacob Churchward Truered11 I think so
if so... then would invisible ink glow when the glowstick activator is put in?
Jacob Churchward Truered11 cool
Modified squirt gun. So when you squirt it, the fluids combine and activate. Glow on demand
OMG I need this in my life :P! -Puzzle-
Have you ever tried putting an oily substance in a squirt gun? I feel like it'd be too thick and wouldn't squirt effectively. Now if you were able to get a water balloon with a divider in it, and put the reagents in each side, that would be interesting!
Yes
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSs
amazing idea
make slime with glowstcik fluid
WUT? WUT? There's already glow in the dark slime, but if you want it to look really cool and lose its glow, then maybe you should.
Ok I don’t mind I do wanna see it even for a short time
I'd say it's probably too greasy and hydrophobic it wouldn't probably set up right
WUT? WUT? Really WUT? WUT? To dangerous to many chemicals
Yes
Luminol! I did a final chemistry experiment using glowsticks last year. Getting the glowsticks open is never fun. The reason the blue glowsticks show up clear is that luminol (the chemical that creates the glow) inherently glows a blue colour. So no dye is needed! Typically the clear reactor liquid is hydrogen peroxide. The reaction is not deadly in small quantities, but shouldn't be consumed in large amounts. It can cause eye and skin irritation, as well as throat irritation if consumed (so keep it away from your pets). Also, it will dye everything it touches. I destroyed five stirring rods through the course of my experiment just because they were dyed a green-yellow after like three uses. Effectively, the glowstick contains hydrogen peroxide (the clear liquid) and a luminol/Dibutyl phthalate plus a dye. The luminol is kept within a glass container within the glowstick, as seen here. thick plastic exterior is used to allow the glowsticks to bend, but also to protect your hands from the glass breaking inside. Glass is used since it can easily break, unlike, say, a plastic. Dibutyl phthalate is also used to make plastics soft and flexible, so using an internal plastic container may not be as effective. Basically, glowsticks are a ton of fun and if careful (plus adult supervision if you're a kid), opening them can be an interesting experiment. Luminol is also what's used on crime scenes, in order to react with blood to make it glow.
the reason it stayed orange instead of brown is because brown is just a very dark hue of orange.
that would mean an emitted source of light is behaving like a reflected source of light .eg RGB vs CYMK
It really depends on how the colour is achieved. If it is a neutral colour light and a colour filter then it would be subtractive colour addition. The blue is definitely producing actual blue light, but I'm not sure about the other ones
Please dip all your glowsticks into one bowl, add boiling hot water, then add the soap. The glow should become pure white. Just give it a try.
it might not really
i want a pure blinding white that looks like a portal to heaven
Wavelength/Light "white" is a lot different than chemical white. Try making white by mixing paint for example. Doesn't work
He should
+ When it gets pure white, he should shine it with the black light!!!!!
" Im gonna put these in warm water to heat them up" shane dawson: *throws them in the microwave*
All over his beautiful shirt
You should try to activate the glow sticks with just the dish soap, none of the actual activator. :)
Try making glow stick bubbles!
make a glowing bubble gun
Im glad Im not the only one thinking about glowing bubbles
Agree.. Floating bubbles not bubbles in a cup.
Do plants absorb this material and glow under black light.

Kitsune Princess Like paintballs filled with glow fluid?
[C.A.T] Fufruz Glowing paintballs actually exist! They are filled with glow in the dark paint and get activated with a flash when leaving the barrel.
This gives me flashbacks of when a glowstick broke and it got into my eye in Year 1. It really stung lol
haha same got it in my mouth and eye
That has happened to me too but for me it burned lol
OMG SAME! Lol 😂
Same bro j thought I was gonna be blind

I think painting with glowsticks would be cool
I agree☺️
Body panting with glow sticks
Separate the 2 liquids, paint with one, then reveal the glowing picture by spraying the second liquid with a spray bottle!
Have any of those bigger heavy duty glow sticks? Because I kind of wanna see what the inside of those look like. 😃
Bushcraft Baxter its probably the same thing but different mechanism and also bigger
What the ones they use for the military
Are yeah
In the army I used to stick these in the turbine engine exhaust from the Abrams tanks. The sticks glow super bright and then burst as the plastic melts. Pretty cool light show. Sticking them in the exterior exhaust from the crew heater is even better as the turbine exhaust tends to aerosolize the fluid making it harder to see while the heater exhaust just sort of burps the fluid out. It's also fun to tie a string to the end and spin them around. You can really get some height if you let go at just the right time.

If you boil an egg with glow stick stuff will the egg inside turn glowy
Grace Wright ok THATS a cool idea lol

Wow that was interesting! Try freezing the clear liquid then boiling the neon liquid and then making holes to pour the boiling neon liquid into.
You should make a glow in the dark bubbles 🤔
You are a genius
warm the liquids add the soap then microwave for 10-15 seconds and make a hyper glow
Henry Schnelle hahahaha thats where i got the base idea

Hey Nate, did you test mixing soap with the activator or the dye? I wonder if one of them is going to activate on the soap alone. If not, I bet adding soap before mixing is going to make the initial reaction super luminescent.

Could you make a bubble solution and blow glowing bubbles??? Like so they see pls!
Make a lava lamp! 👊🏼😎

I filled the room once with I'll glow sticks! It was so beautiful the whole bedroom it didn't last long but it looked amazing at the time
Fun and I want to try some of those. I wonder if you can mix them with oil paint and then paint with the results. Also, what about microwaves and the vacuum jar?
Since the liquid in the blue ones is clear try to use it as invisible ink and then either use a black light or the activating liquid to reveal the message.
Luke Zobrist this is the only smart comment i see in literally the whole comment section. but it's kinda not worth a whole video
Luke Zobrist buttttt, the activator is clear too. you could just write with the activator and then use any colour to light it up
green is almost always brighter because green light has the most wavelengths the human eye can see.
Also why night vision is most always green
@Laila Creations Our sun emits energy at all wavelengths from radio to gamma ray. But it emits most of its energy around 500 nm, which is close to blue-green light.Which is why our eyes can detect those wavelengths more. Cool eh ?
Actually blue does.
Ya blue and green. That's why we see the sky as blue. Or in other cases orange cuz the sun sets and we get less light so shorter waves of light make us see different colors
I did not now that
Thanks for making my science project
I'm curious of how the clear oily activator would fair with soap?
Hey, can you show us how it reacts to flame? I really want to see that! 👍
Nate's making Nuka Cola over here! Oh, if you take a small amount of yellow and add it to the blue you can make white. Also the activator fluid is hydrogen peroxide mixed with an oil. You might be able to start the glow with just regular peroxide.
Hes makeing a nuka cola and im over here gitting completely sloterd by a DEATH CLALL
That's so cool u should do a glow in the dark video where u throw that stuff at each other. Keep up the awesome work
i was curious what would've happened if you added slightly less activator fluid than what was intended. would it glow less? and what would it do if added into resin epoxy to cure?
What would happen if you mix all of the colours together, then put it into the vacuum chamber? Just an experiment that I think might have a cool result.
All of them mixed together look like lava in a cup
CodeRedCody that's what I thought
The reason his intuition was off was because you get brown when adding colors that are based off of subtracting light. This was adding light. If you add enough light you get white not brown, but fire and lava are an in between "color" lol.
CodeRedCody er
CodeRedCody gggg
i think the order in which you mix them might have to do something as well, but idk
I was really hoping you'd make glowing bubbles after adding soap, pls do that in your next vid! Lots of love x
I wonder of you mix the colors in a different order does the final change?
See if you can make a large glowing soap bubble.
A flammable one.
if the soap makes it brighter then the activator fluid could be soap so try putting soap in the dye without putting the activator fluid and see what happens and if anyone tries this then please inform me. thank you
And maybe adding the soap to just the activator fluid as well please!
Hydrogen peroxide is the activator
Broooo we did that glow stick in hot water as well as cold water experiment in science class at the beginning of the year and it was pretty cool
recently did a color-mixing chart in art -- you'd be surprised how many ways you can make green (including with orange). Similarly, orange is just lighter hued brown, hence why you can use oranges in skin tones that would be considered tan, and why you got orange with the bright fluid.
Donald trump is triggered
i wana know what happens if you have a ton of the activator liquid mixed in together and then pour soap in to it. will the soap active it without the help of the colour from the glass tube
Jobless Gamer no, it needs the hydrogen peroxide
Crimson Wolf then just do the ton (like 15 tubes worth) of activator liquid and and then just one colour
Crimson Wolf Is the Hydrogen Peroxide used up in the reaction, the reason it eventually fades, or is the solution used up as it glows... in other words... would the glow last indefinitely if no reactor was used and instead the glow was powered by a blacklight? Would make for some interesting signs
trolle02 It is spelled “it’s”. YOU learn how to spell!
you gotta microwave it please! its crazy hiw bright they get still in the tube but an open bowl would be really interesting seeing it boil and pop. you will have to sacrifice a microwave though.
I think it wouldn't work becouse the microwave works becouse of resonating the water particles, what requires exact frequency to do so.
The heat, or lack thereof, either speeds up or slows down the chemical reaction that makes them glow. The two liquids become more viscous when chilled and end up moving and combining slower. The opposite happens when you warm them up. Also, the inside of the glass vial is filled with a phenyl oxalate and fluorescent dye solution and outside the vial is a hydrogen peroxide solution. This also may explain why the liquid soap containing sodium hydroxide (lye) would accelerate or enhance the reaction.
That was a really cool video, after seeing it I was wondering what would happen to a glow stick vs. 1000 degree knife or just a lot of heat, then a glow stick vs. liquid n. etc..
Boil eggs with it and see if the boiled eggs glow.
What will happen if you heat up glowsticks? If you add liquid nitrogen? If you add it in a pressure cube whatever its called?

Vacuum chamber
Don't forget dry ice. Maybe a dry ice lantern effect?
Put either both of the fluids (separately or mixed) in a vacuum chamber, and see if they expand. 👑✌
Can you blow soap bubbles with glowstick fluid and will the bubble glow?
Please don't drink it! The clear liquid is hydrogen peroxide, the other liquid is probably diethyl phthalate with some other not too friendly chemicals dissolved in it, including TCPO. Could be the other way round but I don't know. Edit: after watching the vid I'm not too sure about it being H2O2, I honestly have no idea what it is.
I think you r right
Isent H2O2 water with more oxygen ?
H2o2 is hydrogen peroxide
Looks like glycerin? Feels slippery and smells sweet, he said.

You guys should start a series where viewers can vote on what you guys use for a video. Then you take that thing and for example put it in the vacuum chamber, put it in the foundry and put it into liquid nitrogen. Kind of like a extreme torture test!
I would have loved seeing you mix green and blue to get a teal/ turquoise kinda glow.
You should get a speaker that faces upwards and put a shaped tube over it then put this glowstick dye into it. Play the music and it might make some really cool shapes. You can do it with other fluids as well!
Put Dish soap in that fluid and try to make bubbles..😊😊

Imagine making slime with this... Poof mind blown
Have u tried painting with the stuff in the glow sticks or boiling them
Could you get some glowing icy cubes by freezing the mixed fluids with liquid nitrogen or anything like that?
You guys should put the soapy warm glowstick fluid in a vacuum chamber like with the cake or the soda. I don't think much would happen but it would be interesting none the less.
How about testing the glow stick fluid and activator with dry ice
Could you mix soap with the glow stick liquid and try and blow bubbles wonder if they would glow
Would be cool if they made your car paint glow at night, never losing its brightness.

Crimson Wolf Thanks
I know I'm a buzzkill but that would be impossible without breaking the laws of thermodynamics
Shlok Bhakta Yes it is possible You can use the Glowiest Glow paint *LIT* Which would absorb light and give it out in the dark It also gives out light when it is warm so the heat from the car is enough to light it up And no Laws broken
+Shlok Bhakta it is possible with OLED technology. OLEDS can be made on almost any surface and will make it glow when power is applied. Off course it will use some electricity to make it glow, but it is possible with current technology.
mix the liquid with tonic water
I think that the stick contains actually three substances: a fluorophore (like that drink), a peroxide and an activator. Thus, it would probably not work.
edi ,I would think it has luminol ,peroxide and a activator.also tonic water has Quine which naturaly forms in spring water
Best video by far!!!!! I loved it cause I love glowing stuff!!!!! P.S i kinda freaked out a bit when he ate/drank the glow fluid
What happens if you microwave the seprate glowsticks solutions, then mix them after? (Or put them in already mixed)
What if you could hydro drip the liquids o.O
It woudl be interesting to see what the various emission spectra are through a spectroscope. Also with the soap, I wonder if it's the dyes in the soap being fluorescent? You should try a few different soaps including ones without any dyes or fragrances.
can u bubble with the soap mix and will it glow?
I wonder if you can use it as a mix in for paint
What if you start a chain reaction by laying out all the flammable chemicals you have made till present right next to each other and igniting one of them with power of sun to start the chain reaction.
Sounds cool

Could you dehydrate glow sticks fluid and make it into a powder? Btw I love your guys videos ❤️
Try blowing bubbles with the glow sticks and dish soap to see if they are luminous thanks
Or make glow darts
How long does the glow last, several hours? Do they glow without blk light?
Try leaving the soap and glow stick mixture in a plastic cup for maybe a day and it will melt through the plastic. Thanks for using my suggestion about mixing soap with the already mixed glow sticks😁
*Can someone explain the reaction between the **_glow liquid and activator,_** And also the soap reaction, is it exothermic?*
sashidhar kumar check out nurdrages glow stick videos, he goes through the science of making the colors and using h2o2 as the activator
obviously it is an exothermic reaction because it lets off energy. the way that it works is, in the plastic part(not the glass vial) there is the chemical H2O2, and in the glass vial there is different chemicals. When you break the glass vial, the two chemicals mix together and go through an exothermic reaction called, chemo-luminescence.
The oily substance is probably there to limit the interaction between the two chemicals so the glow lasts longer. Adding the soap binds to the oil allowing more of the material to react with each other.
dinotrainer318 Wow, Thank you!
and try to make art with glow sticks. first let the color thing on the thing where the painting wil be on. then make the magic happen by trowing the (activator) on the art work and pls do it
I have a question. I've heard you can pour the liquid of a glow stick into a jar close the lid and it will glow. How long will the glowing action last in a sealed jar? Hours days? Thank you. ️
Science side of youtube help!! Im wanting to do a craft that glows, what exactly is the activator? Id like my project to glow for a long time. All I know is glow sticks dont last long :(
I was actually wondering if the soap would be activated by the separate activator fluid or maybe activate the dye it'self before mixing as well as if one color's activator fluid was compatible with another color's dye.
Can you see how Liquid Nitrogen affects the glow sticks? Also, What would the glow stick fluid do if you mixed it with molten salt?
The problem I see with the molten salt idea is that it glows because of the heat, so it'd potentially be difficult if not impossible to see anything happen.
Does glow stick fluid glow with hot water, as bright as warm water.
What would happen if you mixed the activator rods with fluid from a different color? Like yellow glow fluid and blue activator.
