Concerning the 9v in the shop press, I'd be interested to see what happens when you use a multimeter to measure the voltage as it's crushed.
I think I did something like this when I was little. I actually used slightly dented batteries and would squeeze them slightly and see a small amount of extra life for my game boy but never to a significant degree and things easily could have gone wrong. I'd be interested in seeing actual measurements on that too though.
That's awesome. AA lithium batteries are like little miniature fireworks. That was definitely my favorite part of the video.

Lmao so true 😂🤣😂
And that jacket is probably made from some sort of animal if not then at least a plant and battery acid/sulfuric acid loves that sort of material.
3:03 Perfect timing of the liquid comming out.
I remember throwing batteries in a bon fire as a kid and I seen lava sprayed in the air but this was interesting thanks 😊
Now, if these had been lithium-ion batteries, this would've been a LOT more energetic.
they are lithium ion batteries. I think you meant lithium polymer batteries would be more energetic.
@@koryagniel1592 pretty sure those are alkalines
Yes I believe ya meant Lithium Polymer batteries, affectionately called LiPo batteries.

I love how he opens it first and plays with the chemicals, then does research on it later. ;) Well, accidents are how most superpowers are obtained, so who knows... ;)
James Wilkins he was lucky that it is mostly MnO2 and NH4Cl
Matej Schwartz plz translate lol
Matej Schwartz second one is Nitrogen hydrogen 4 and chlorine I think
Manganese dioxide (also known as pyrolusite) and Ammonium chloride (this one smells the same as amonia in aqueous solutions and just a little bit in its solid form). None of those are toxic when handled with gloves. It is just the MnO2 that is annoying as it stains and is a pain in the a** to clean up after it dried up. Bloody thing wont dissolve in anything and it stains things brown.

I’ve watched this vid so many times and I have to say this is the best video y’all have ever made
In school, I once did a science project on which brand of battery lasts the longest. The three brands I used was Duracell, Energizer, and Rayovac. I put them in identical flashlights and left them on. The Rayovac battery got so hot it melted, and Duracell lasted just a bit longer than Energizer. Note to self, when buying batteries get Duracell.
Yeah duracell is just better for more applications
If you live in a country that has Aldi stores, then buy Activ Energy batteries. They are the cheapest and last longer than Duracell and many other battery brands.
“Duracell wants to know your location”
😂😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣

DURACELL MTF FORCE OPEN UP
Thanks for the laugh I needed that.
Alkaline batteries aren't going to react that much, as we saw. The components that are used are manganese oxide (positive terminal or cathode) and zinc (negative terminal or anode). I believe these chemicals, though I'm no chemist and certainly did not do well in chemistry, does not generally have in explosive results. I think the real dangers with batteries comes in when you start playing around with modern Lithium and NiMH batteries. I've seen videos where someone stabbed such a battery with a nail and it literally started blasting fire like a firework almost immediately. This is also the type of battery that was causing Samsung such heartache with its Galaxy Note 7 product. This was probably your most "edge of your seat" type of video that I have seen y'all make so far. I kept worrying that Nate was going to get seriously hurt. It got me thinking that you guys need to start doing Mythbusters-style setups for your experiments. Haha! -Brian
It's not just Samsung that uses them. Almost all cellphones use Lithium batteries and have the same issue as the Galaxy Note 7s along with many other electronics that use them. They explode due to damage to the very thin walls of the battery which usually comes from overcharging them to the point that they swell up enough to damage the walls of the battery or just a bad design to begin. It causes short circuits and heat buildup to the point that the lithium ignites resulting in the same thing that happened in this video but with more lithium and inside what is basically a pouch of metal foil.
Yep lithium cells will react violently when punctured, mainly because lithium metal itself reacts with oxygen
Titanium dioxide. Zinc oxide garphite polycarbonate binder and other stuff
All alkali metals (lithium, sodium, potassium, rubidium, caesium and theoretically francium) will react violently with water. Lithium is the least reactive, and the violence of the reaction grows as you go down the periodic table (the same order I put them), except francium, which would be a bit less reactive than caesium (it's radioactive and rapidly disintegrates, so we can't do the experiment, it's just what the theory says). Search for "alkaline metals in water" and you'll see the explosions.
Jack Place, you are correct. I'm not sure why I typed just oxide. I wonder if I read the word oxide elsewhere as I was typing my reply. I don't profess to be a chemistry person by any means. In fact, I have just a basic understanding of chemicals. I'm surprised I got this much correct, haha!
Those AA batteries did surprisingly little, I also did not know that lithium batteries had lithium metal that's very interesting.
When I was a kid hanging around the campfire I threw some button batteries in the fire and it was like a pack of firecrackers 😂
7:19 when you pop a pimple.

what heck
Lol when I was a kid, we called the “liquid” inside batteries what it actually was - battery acid
Technically it's sulphuric acid but call it whatever you want since it's a mix if different materials
Same here X3
Alkalines.
If it’s potassium hydroxide like he said, it’s the complete opposite of acid.
Lead acid batteries have acid in them. Alkaline batteries have the exact opposite of acid in them.
6:38 we've got some stuff OOZING out 😂
The temperature must be increasing due to the exothermic reaction, caused by the nail and the liquid. BTW,that lithium ion battery experiment was much less explosive and more beautiful than I imagined.

That's a shame, although the last one was an Energizer (which comes from my hometown)

Why would Duracell sponsor someone that wants to destroy their batteries. Your logic doesn't make any sense
Not so durable eh
Adrian Mendez why would they sponser someone who showed how easy it is to destroy their battery?

I put a set of 9 volt batteries together when I was 5, and they got too hot. I told my mom and she used a spatula to toss it out on the deck. It exploded. Precious memories...
Alexander Fornasier 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yeah one of the battorys he used was probs dead
Mix lithium and phosphorus or any phosphate and you would have the ultimate flashbang grenade/ incendiary
That liquid that came out burns a lot when it touched me
IDK about Duracell's quality but it seems like every AA battery from Duracell leaks at some point, mostly it happens in remote control and wall clock.
I you put food coloring in water and then put it in the distiller you used whit salt water would the food coloring stay behind or go with it?
Its a impure substance so it wont go
U forgot i dare
It will stay behind
I'm not one to complain about free content, so I won't. I would however like to submit a request for some more complex in depth type of builds or experiments. I'm sure it can be difficult given that you guys upload a new video every day but every once in a while would be great. Things like the styro-slicer or the HHO generator. Those are the kind of videos I stick around for. Anyways thanks for the uploads and I look forward to seeing what's coming in the future.
Ditto, MyBeardItches.
Same. The content has plunged on this channel in the last few years. Sad to see it like this.
Logan Landry I agree
The 2 9v docking experiment is interesting cause internal resistance is high and I would think they'd level and then there's no demand for energy movement

Put the strip of lithium metal in water. It should start to burn or something close to that.
The main concern I think, beyond the obvious issues related to potential toxicity is that the sealed batteries are basically pressure vessels.
