    • @@averagecalisthenicsguy1504 you have not been smashing your thigh, you've been smashing your calf. Bone density increases with striking. Muscle density increases with training. Of course your kicks don't hurt as much now as they used too. For one, you've increased muscle density by training your legs. And for two, you increased bone density during that time period as well. But smashing your leg into an object will not increase muscle density. And the negatives can be severe, as the muscles take damage during all that striking. Likewise, if you OVERTRAIN your kicks, instead of increasing bone density you can damage the bones. So be smart when you train. Look at Cody garbarant as an example of a guy with a serious overtraining problem. Went from being a champ to being someone who struggles to stay healthy.

I was training for the national championship when my trainer gave us this drill for thigh conditioning, and i got a dude 40 pounds heavier than me as a partner, who absolutely destroyed my left thigh, and being the dumbass as i am i stood my ground and didnt back out, my left thigh was torn from the bone, 1,5 years of rehab, had to learn to walk again. So doing this as a training drill is really not recommended, at least for a long period of time

Couldn’t walk for a week and couldn’t train with full intensity for 2+ weeks. If someone ever tells you to do this, decline. Even if they say something like your a pussy etc. Put your ego aside. It’s not worth it. You can only get better if you’re able to train.

The guy I was partnered with kept hitting the side of my knee, then had a lot of physical activity to do after, like fireman's carry runs, squats, and other leg intensive training. Tore me up, crutches for three months. The weight shift from that long screwed with my other knee and also threw my hips out so my lower back is also shot. We also took punches to the stomach as part of the hardening, it was basic, there are way more levels of it. Do it right of you're gonna do it, not like my partner.... But it is a thing.

  • I did this once at my old gym back in the day, and I got seriously injured due to the repeated trauma. The muscle tissue on my quad basically became calcified, and I couldn't tense the muscle at all for weeks, lest I experienced excruciating pain. It became hard and very stiff, and whenever I tense the muscle, shooting/stabbing pain would occur. There's a medical term for this, but I can't remember what they told me it was. Missed out on an opportunity to spar with "Master Cha" due to this (the muay thai guy that, while pretty tipsy/drunk, fought that guy in that one viral backyard fighting video), since this happened around the time he did a seminar at our gym. I was pretty bummed I missed the opportunity to have him whoop my ass. Seriously, if over-done, this can really fuck you up.

  • You can condition your shin, because it is a bone, and the micro fractures you create will cause a thickening as they heal.. you can not, however, condition a thigh muscle... The physiology of muscle fibers don’t work that way. Some people will say that Wolff’s law applies, however, his study was directly related to bone conditioning.

    • Lol bro what are you on about?? If you couldn't condition your thigh then the average everyday civilian would take a leg kick the same as a pro fighter, is that the case? Absolutely not. Fighters have conditioned their thighs that's why they don't collapse in pain after one or two kicks. Please think about shit longer before spitting out a opinion

    • @@IjbvfknnnI fought Muay Thai professionally for 9 years, and now have a school where I train MT fighters, open 13 years now. So I stand behind my original comment. What you are referring to is lean quality muscle mass, and yes, possibly, the more lean quality muscle mass you have, the better you can absorb a leg kick. However what I responded to was someone claiming that they could condition their thigh muscle, not make it bigger or stronger, but condition it. Almost saying that through taking a high number if kicks, you could callous the muscle.? That is silly and just not possible. Also if taking more kicks would in any way condition your thigh muscle, then how to guys with hundreds of MT fights still go down from leg kicks..? Maybe stick to something you have some personal knowledge of, because this is way outside of your comfort zone.
