  • Coopman lived in the same town as I did here in Belgium, I used to work as a waiter in a restaurant about 15 years ago, and he was a frequent guest with his wife/partner. He was always very humble and didn't speak a lot. The only thing I remember him telling me was that I had a good body for boxing xD Anyway, I heard a story about how a "friend" scammed him of all the money he made from boxing with a business deal... Not sure if it's true but he always looked like he went through some shit. Hope he's doing ok now.

    • Based on everything you said about Jean Pierre Coopman that's exacted reason why they gave that easy fight to Ali... You see this is the fight that was right after the "Thrilla in Manilla" the fight that Ali claimed he almost died in.. So yeah after a brutal fight in October 1975 Muhammad Ali needed the most easier non talented opponent to start of the following new year in 1976... Jean Coopman was that right opponent for Muhammad Ali coming off that historical boxing war with Joe Frazier in Manila...

      @claydogmadman7843@claydogmadman78433 ай бұрын
    • @@claydogmadman7843True, it was time for an easy opponent after Thrilla. Coopman used to be a stonecutter and a heavy smoker and only started boxing 5 years prior to this fight. He was a durable fighter though, but just never had any proper training to get past the limitations he had as a boxer. He knew he didnt stand a chance of winning, he was just part of this 'promotion'. A lot of people can laugh and mock about his fight (which was far from good), but he did have the courage to step into the ring
