Growing up as a teenager in the 80s, I can say for a fact that the D.C. sniper incident had absolutely nothing to do with the popularity of the Chevy caprice in Chicago. It was sometimes referred to as the "poor man's Cadillac" because it had room for five, it was much less than a Cadillac with similar options, and you could easily fixed it up with trues and vogue tires to make it stand out. It was most likely the most popular car in the black community for a decade or two during the late 70s to early 2000s.

My first car ever owned was a 79' Monte Carlo, then a 79 Buick Regal, then a 1983 Cutlass Supreme Diesel. Those cars were cheap back in the early 1990s. Because they were more than 10 years old.
🤤🍻
I've driven all those cars, never had any problems. Pretty much everyone likes those cars, or liked them in the 80s 90s 2k and still today. Rather than these cars being considered dangerous, it's the neighborhoods and gangs and jackers. Plus the color of the car ( any car) and Rims that make the bullet magnets out of vehicles.
And is why officers should be allowed to go into the neighborhoods and if they see any gang activity or gang members hanging out they need to be shot on sight sorry not sorry all gang member joined by choice their hands were not forced.

The Cutlass, Regal and Monte Carlo are all extremely easy to steal and the parts are often worth a lot of money, especially if it's a turbo Regal like a Grand National, or if it's a Hurst Olds.
And that SS had an LT1 in it, and if you gave it that Corvette transmission, this car gets even more nuts.
Both are pretty rare though. I very rarely see Grand Nationals and I’ve never seen a Hurst Olds on the street. If I’m not mistaken they only made like 2500 Hurst Olds ever. *Eastside Low Bottoms sh*t !* _Tappin' in from South Central LA_ It's nowhere near how it used to be with the Cutlass', Regal's and Monte Carlo's as it was in the 80's to mid 2000's. That was an AUTOMATIC bump-up (pull-over) by the kkkops ! They were being tagged in those days as well. In the early to mid 90's, the 42GC's car of choice was the '87-'90 4 door "box" caprice. They were roomy. I've seen them pile out of 'em on more than one occasion fa SHO ! 🤜🏾💥🤛🏾
The reason the G-Body in the Impala in the Caprice were popular. They were body on frame cars. The good handle the Urban decay of the city like potholes frost heaves and broken pavement. You had respectable power and in the G-Body you get that four or five comfortably any coop had decent power and you could hop up the motor. They were stylish but could be understated. The Impala could do the same thing but you got a little more room. The Caprice even had a following in the Middle East. Because of its cushy ride over with rough stuff. The other thing that helped the G-Body it had a long production run. Yes the Ford had the Thunderbird but it started out boxy then went to the aero coupe but was a little pricier than the G-Body used. And then Chrysler didn't have anything to compare.
Man, it feels like you can’t open a Car dealership or a sports memorabilia store anywhere in LA!
Early 2000’s and the 90’s this is accurate at least for west coast and down south the only places I’ve stayed but now young bangers can’t find these cars in good condition and don’t have the time to fixed them. Any kind of Dodge is the car I see a lot of young bangers in these days Camaros too

The car that I've seen gangsters driving now a days is the Chrysler 300 with oversized low-profile tire rims. I've even heard of people nicknaming it the "Ghetto Bentley". They also like Crown Vics that look like ex-cop cars.

When I was younger in the 90’s I once went to see a friend in Bakersfield California. He had warned me that it was a gang street and that if I saw a guy standing on a corner I should pull over immediately and tell them who I was and my business there. They would use a radio to tell everybody I was ok to be there. This was a street even an ambulance wouldn’t go down without a swat team escort. But I forgot to pull over. Next thing I know was hearing gunshots and my radiator exploding in my 91” Ford F-150. Thankfully I was close to my friends house and he came out. Nobody would mess with him. When he saw it was me he immediately punched the guy shooting at me knocking him out. Then he took the guys gun and handed it to me saying, “he shot up your truck so you can shoot up his car over there it’s the law of the hood “ ironically I always felt safe there after that because I knew the rules.

Next you should do trucks. There were some SUVs that were heavily associated with gangs, like the Chevrolet S-10 Blazer and the full-size K5 Blazer. The Jeep Cherokee XJ, Chevy Astro Van (Eazy-E mentioned an Astro in his song "Switchez"), and Mazda MPV are also heavily gang-affiliated truck-based vehicles, although unlike the cars on this list, they either didn't retain their popularity, weren't as reliable, or had their communities shifted into other interests (most Cherokees in the hood seem to have been bought up by off-road enthusiasts).
