The hamburger is the quintessential American meal, offering more than just the perfect balance of food. Out of the many burgers available at Burger King, the Whopper takes the reins.
But the idea behind the savoury flame-grilled Whopper didn't actually come from Burger King. In fact, a cafeteria worker-turned-franchise owner stole it from a dirty, rundown restaurant, and then boasted Burger King as the "Home of the Whopper.”
This is the story of how it all began.

  • Burger King will always have a special place in my heart. My older brother had slipped on ice and landed on his head causing brain bleed when he was a small child in the 1960s. He had to have multiple brain surgeries and was in a coma for about a week. When he finally woke up. His first words to my mom was, "Quiero Whopper" (I want a Whopper). It was a funny ending to a serious situation. But Burger King will always be royalty to us.

Alot of the time people with head injuries have permanent personality changes, changes in intelligence (usually it declines, but are many cases where the opposite happens, & they become geniuses), another very common one is when they wake up from the coma they only speak in a different countries accent (I personally know 2 people this has happened to), but the craziest one is there are a handful of cases where when people wake up theyve learned another language, which is ABSOLUTELY INSANE if you really think about it.

  • The last thing you'd want in your Burger King burger is someone's foot fungus. But as it turns out, that might be what you get. A 4channer uploaded a photo anonymously to the site showcasing his feet in a plastic bin of lettuce. With the statement: "This is the lettuce you eat at Burger King." Admittedly, he had shoes on. But that's even worse. The post went live at 11:38 PM on July 16, and a mere 20 minutes later, the Burger King in question was alerted to the rogue employee. At least, I hope he's rogue. How did it happen? Well, the BK employee hadn't removed the Exif data from the uploaded photo, which suggested the culprit was somewhere in Mayfleld Heights, Ohio. This was at 11:47. Three minutes later at 11:50, the Burger King branch address was posted with wishes of happy unemployment. 5 minutes later, the news station was contacted by another 4channer. And three minutes later, at 11:58, a link was posted: BK's "Tell us about us" online forum. The foot photo, otherwise known as exhibit A, was attached. Cleveland Scene Magazine contacted the BK in question the next day. When questioned, the breakfast shift manager said "Oh, I know who that is. He's getting fired." Mystery solved, by 4chan. Now we can all go back to eating our fast food in peace."

All of them had the worst service, and poorest food quality (stale bread, overcooked/undercooked, orders wrong, etc) of anything out there. I figured maybe it was all some rogue bad franchise owner/s and tried some in other counties, because sometimes I feel nostalgia for the food there, and they were awful experiences too, always with particularly old stale bread. I'm unsure how it's managing to do better when, in my eyes, and anyone I've talked to, it seems worse than ever.

  • If anything these stories just go to show that you don't need a lot of money to start something and be successful, you have to have an idea (a unique or new idea though, not what everyone else is doing necessarily) and at least some sort of initial plan. Mainly the idea. The plan likely changes throughout the course of creation (during the implementation and execution in the early days) but these stories are interesting, because some of these people had NOTHING when they started. Warren Buffet has a few stories about people who became millionaires with only, say $2500, but they had an idea. And this is where you have to work your network and find new acquantiances.

  • I regularly visit buffets in different cities around the states. Before I go to a buffet, I will place 6 corndogs in my jacket pockets. After entering the buffet, I sneak the corndogs into some of the fried food section trays. It is such a joy for me to see other customers of the buffet eat my corndogs thinking they were part of the buff

  • Mattoon residents Gene and Betty Hoots bought the successful Frigid Queen ice cream shop from Gene's uncle, Bill Paullin, in 1952.[1] In 1954, Gene expanded the business, adding hamburgers, French fries and other items to the menu. In 1957,[2] they fixed up a two-car parking garage behind the Frigid Queen, adding a grill and a counter for customers.[1] When it came time to give the new business behind the Frigid Queen a name, Gene wanted to go with The Hot Dames but Betty said that a queen needs a king, and chose the name Burger King instead.[1] In 1959, after prompting by his uncle, Gene registered the name "Burger King" as a state trademark in Illinois, and the Hootses were official owners and operators of the only "Burger King" restaurant in Illinois at the time.[1]
