  • I have seen hundreds of horror films over the years and none came close to the terror I felt watching Chernobyl. I have worked as a Chemical engineer for a big company in the UK and a disaster like Chernobyl is not completely avoidable. We completely safety tests everyday. Everyday. However the fact that problems can and do happen means that the idea of a chemical explosion is possible. Night shift workers get tired, electrical equipment fails, people make mistakes. I'm not saying an explosion at the place I work would be anywhere near the scale of Chernobyl but it would cost lives. The illusion of safety is frail and thin - this is what my professor told me on my last day as a student with him and it has stuck with me my whole life. He also told me to not f**k around with things if I'm not 100% sure but pressure from the bosses can sometimes over rule what you have to do. Please stay safe.

    • @user-xv9rf2ll3m he adapted it to the television medium, though. Neil Druckman (one of the creators of the game) no longer had much hope of adapting the game to another medium after a failed attempt to adapt it to film. So much so that he wasn't even interested in the adaptation offer that Craig Mazin (creator of the miniseries Chernobyl and HUGE fan of The last of us) sent him through the voice actor and motion capture of Dina (important character of The last of us part II), Shannon Woodward. The game adaptation became a reality after Neil Druckman watched the Chernobyl miniseries and noticed Craig Mazin's talent. He became a fan of his own fan, set up a meeting, listened to the offer, accepted it, let him improve the story of the game into what was needed for a TV show and boom: the result was one of the best TV shows of the year and many many new fans of The last of us that wouldn't exist because most of them are people who never pick up a play station controller missing out on the opportunity to enjoy the great stories that exist in the world of video games.

But still, he died of liver cancer in the age of 58, that was caused by radiation. I'm very proud of him and I'm sure he would be glad to see these series and was very happy to see the final titles "In the memory of all who suffered and sacrificed" if he was alive. I started crying when I saw those titles. Me and my family want to thank all the people who made this film.

    • @jmd2789 The Chernobyl disaster is more powerful than the explosion of a nuclear bomb in Hiroshima. I am from Belarus (this country suffered the most from the disaster), was born 10 years after Chernobyl (thank God healthy), but I know a few people who were less fortunate.( for example one skin spotted) something Like that. In this scenario, we have to have the radiation sensors in each house, but they are not. Every person should have crap to check food, water, etc. for the presence of isotopes, but for some reason not. The problem is further hushed up, because who will live where everything is poisoned? People further fool. Dunno what will happen in a hundred years. How it affected the genome, etc. But it's all true... If it were not for the sacrifices made by people, the whole of Eurasia would be in the same situation, even worse. Sorry, i'm used google translator.

  • "vnimaniye, vnimaniye" - it's just chilling, I love how they put the story together like a horror story, with the monster in the cave, and as Hitchcock said "you give out information in little bits" , and inform people slowly to build up horror and suspense. And while it's a dramatization, the most chilling part is that it's an amazing example of just the sort of failures that occur when cost-cutting meets unforgiving engineering.....and in broad strokes.....it's true to history.

  • My dad served in Chernobyl as a liquidator and is now long gone. Besides the health issues, Chernobyl caused a lot of mental issues to those who returned. The Chernobyl PTSD was not less than after an active combat. They came back believing they were dying slowly, and that was tough even on the men who bravely went to serve and save the people of the country that was on the edge of the collapse. They did it for the people and for the strong sense of integrity they were raised with. I don’t remember my dad’s voice, he was not at my graduation, he is not going to be at my wedding. The country he served for does not exist any more, and with that those men who went to serve in Chernobyl after the disaster are now forgotten too.
