On April 26, 1986, the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in Ukraine, Soviet Union suffered a massive explosion that released radioactive material across Belarus, Russia and Ukraine and as far as Scandinavia and western Europe. Chernobyl dramatizes the story of the 1986 accident, one of the worst man-made catastrophes in history, and the sacrifices made to save Europe from the unimaginable disaster. Chernobyl premieres May 6 on HBO.

I have seen hundreds of horror films over the years and none came close to the terror I felt watching Chernobyl. I have worked as a Chemical engineer for a big company in the UK and a disaster like Chernobyl is not completely avoidable. We completely safety tests everyday. Everyday. However the fact that problems can and do happen means that the idea of a chemical explosion is possible. Night shift workers get tired, electrical equipment fails, people make mistakes. I'm not saying an explosion at the place I work would be anywhere near the scale of Chernobyl but it would cost lives. The illusion of safety is frail and thin - this is what my professor told me on my last day as a student with him and it has stuck with me my whole life. He also told me to not f**k around with things if I'm not 100% sure but pressure from the bosses can sometimes over rule what you have to do. Please stay safe.

Craig Mazin is truly a great writer, from Chernobyl to The Last of Us. Like he has a certain skill of making you shocked and sympathetic for people in apocalyptic scenarios
He didn't write The Last Of Us... It's a video game with an amazing cinematic story.
@user-xv9rf2ll3m he adapted it to the television medium, though. Neil Druckman (one of the creators of the game) no longer had much hope of adapting the game to another medium after a failed attempt to adapt it to film. So much so that he wasn't even interested in the adaptation offer that Craig Mazin (creator of the miniseries Chernobyl and HUGE fan of The last of us) sent him through the voice actor and motion capture of Dina (important character of The last of us part II), Shannon Woodward. The game adaptation became a reality after Neil Druckman watched the Chernobyl miniseries and noticed Craig Mazin's talent. He became a fan of his own fan, set up a meeting, listened to the offer, accepted it, let him improve the story of the game into what was needed for a TV show and boom: the result was one of the best TV shows of the year and many many new fans of The last of us that wouldn't exist because most of them are people who never pick up a play station controller missing out on the opportunity to enjoy the great stories that exist in the world of video games.

Winter has gone and nuclear winter arrived... 😁😂
Sorry to be that guy, but nuclear winter is caused by the dust lifted into the higher levels of the atmosphere, preventing sunlight from entering and thus reducing surface temperature of Earth(only nuclear weapons and super-vulcanos are capable of that), Chernobyl could not have exploded in that way, the cloud would have been more poisonous and in lower atmosphere, raining all over the world in the worst case. The country he served for does not exist any more, and with that those men who went to serve in Chernobyl after the disaster are now forgotten too.
Your dad helped save the world, a real life super hero. I am terribly sorry for your loss, my friend.
mine was 18 and in the soviet army when they woke them up at 2 am and forced them in a vehicle to Chernobyl.
Your dad is a hero, huge respect to him!
there needs to be more recognition for the nuclear clean-up people.. Chernobyl, Fukushima, Hanford..
Russia exists...
The trailer for Oppenheimer used the Geiger counter noise as well, maybe inspired from this series, adds such a haunting aspect to the scenes.
1:22. When those sirens strating playing I felt a cold shiver down my spine. I was so scared.
The writer literally went from Scary Movie 4 to Chernobyl. Now that’s just inspirational!
Now he's going to do The Last Of Us TV Series.
Lauranna: Indeed.
He also did the The Hangover Movies.
@@itsblitz4437 All the more reason it's inspirational. My mind was blown when I found out what he wrote before. Chernobyl is a true masterpiece. To find out he mostly wrote films like The Hangover sequels before makes me wonder how many hidden gems are still in Hollywood, waiting to break free from remakes and sequels.
@@SopranoRocker2010 a lot...just like with politics, a lot of undeserving or straight up terrible people get to be in charge of more power....than those who are stuck in the system just to follow...whether the orders are good or bad.
Everybody gangsta till the horror movie is based on true events

M' lord
Yeah not gonna lie this scared the shit out off me
"Each atom an Uranium is like a bullet, penetrating everything in it's path, metal, concrete, flesh... Now, Chernobyl holds over three trillion of these bullets!!" That is perfectly how you will scare the audience with dialogue by explaining the science behind the situation!! Hats off to the Chernobyl crew for delivering the masterpiece series of all time!!!❤❤❤🔥❤🔥
Whenever I feel lost and confused and complain about every that goes wrong in my life I watch this series and realise my worries are mere in compare what these people have suffered in their life
Season 2 : Coronavirus.
Bad joke.
@@tempusfugit3405 Some people cope with dark humor - and seeing how things are going to get...
@@jocelyn9744 yeah I see, but in some cases is for me dark humor little too much. That's my opinion. I wrote what I felt.

Wuhan(2020) What will happen to our boys ? - The situation in Wuhan is under control, I have been told its an equivalent of a flu virus. Nope Wuhan is on fire, every virus is like a bullet penetrating everything in its path through any surgical mask. Cut the facebook, contain the spread of misinformation. Do you want to know the truth ? - there is no truth.
Dislikes are from people who's dossimeters can measure only upto 3.6 Roentgen.

Aha
Not great, not terrible
Well it isn't great but it isn't horrifying
Not great. Not terrible
This was easily the best, most riveting miniseries I've ever seen. I would take a deep breath before starting each episode.
Not kidding, never In my entire life was I so scared by a movie trailer.
Not a movie
that's mini tv series, not a movie
For real
I watched another youtube documentary where it shows how it all happened. I watched it 4 years ago. It still gives me nightmere.
You'er got some great speakers.
The music in this show is perfect. So terrifying and beautiful

Apparently sounds were recorded at a similar power plant in Ignalina Lithuania , (which is where the series was filmed, due to the plant being of the same type and building style). The music was then made to emulate the noises recorded there. Inspired yet creepy, this trailer still gives me chills and makes my hair stand on end. The dialog selected for the trailer is chilling too.
it sounds a bit like the pandorum movie.
Scary as hell
Guess you never heard "STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl ost". (best slav game ever)
The shot of the firefighter in the hospital bed completely unrecognisable from the severe radiation burns terrifies me to this day; I genuinely had trouble sleeping after seeing him look the way he did.
When you come back to watch it again and realise that 2019 was the last year a show like this could have been made in mainstram media. The whole 'questioning state authority on their monopoly on science' and "stopping harmful misinformaiton" aka censorship.... etc...
Yes, remember all the Americans who had to build underground tunnels to transport tubes of Ivermectin and hydroxychloriquine so they wouldn't be shot by Biden's secret police?? Yeah me neither. 🙄 You nuts don't even see the irony that the misinformation you have been been fed has been dreamt up and ordered by Putin as an attack on America. You would rather blame other Americans, just as he intended.
Those intensified внимание megaphone sound really hit me...
Scariest shit ever.
