  • I think that there is a big difference between Nathan Chen and Yuzuru. It is true that Nathan has more quad jumps to use, but his skating does not seem to move our hearts. His skating looks like just gymnastics, jumping around, but Yuzuru's skating pulls our hearts with his passionate performance. Yes Yuzuru is performing with such a high quality and high-class elegance. Just watching his fingers, hands, arms, eyes, face expressions, legs, feet, every edge of his body, a music seems to come out naturally. Is anyone there who notices such differences?

    @harumih.3727@harumih.37273 жыл бұрын
    • They are both great skaters otherwise they wouldn't be here. And who made you the voice of the viewers? It's an opinion that Yuzuru's is more passionate, a popular one, but an opinion no less. Have you seen Nathan's free skate from last years World Championship bc that pulled my heart similar to how Yuzuru's skating does for you. The 'difference' is in your preference not in either of their abilities to envoke passion/emotion.

    • @@faithsampson6340 First of all, this comment section is for anyone that wants to post their own "opinion or comment or feeling" or whatever they want to say. I did not mean to offend anybody's comment. I just wanted to emphasize the greatness of Yuzuru's skating. And, by the way, how I felt, how others felt, are, as you say, each person's impression and reaction, sure. But, the reason why I wanted to emphasize the greatness is that my "feeling, impression, and inspirationary excitement" is broadly shared with many people, especially the "artistical professionals and artistic creators." I did NOT mean that my comment and feeling is the voice of all the people, so why you criticize my comment such a way is beyond my comprehension. You really offended me, by criticizing me of doing something that I did NOT do. I never pushed my feeling to others. This comment section has "community guideline" and your comment against me is a violation of the guideline. You offended me. Please see below, so that you will know why I was sure that what I felt was not only my "feeling" not "opinion" but it was shared with many artistic professionals, such as ballet dancers, sing-song writers, music composers. One of the people who are professional artists is Christina Valdez, of the Crescendo Conservatory, who uploaded many ballet performances on KZhead, as a tribute to Yuzuru Hanyu. Also another artist is Kelly Moran, who was equally impressed by the "musicality, artisty, body expressions, arms expressions" and created her own products. www.olympicchannel.com/en/stories/features/detail/yuzuru-hanyu-ballet-piano-tributes-meets-alysa-liu/

    • @@harumih.3727 I don't see how my comment was offensive but wtv. And i said myself that many ppl share the same opinion as you he is a great skater but so is Nathan. They both obviously spend hours practicing so that they can do what they like. I was only saying that there is not so much a difference between them as ppl like to think. Red might envoke more emotion in most ppl than the color blue but that does not make it a more passionate color. It might be a FACT that more ppl like the color red than blue bc more ppl precieve it to be more moving than blue but it is an OPINION that it is more soul moving than blue to begin with. That applies to Nathan and Yuzuru as well. Just bc more ppl agree with you does not lessen the fact that their are still ppl who would disagree with you. To me it seemed as though when you said 'our hearts' you were speaking for ppl in general. And it is never good to generalize in my opinion . if you had said the majority that would have been true. But he does not move all hearts just like how Nathan does not move yours and Nathan does not move all hearts but he does move some. Your second comment seemed to be a defense for Yuzuru but you misunderstand i am not discrediting him, i actually like them both equally, only pointing out that you are expressing the opinion of the majority as though it applies to everyone. Obviously they are both awesome and have their strengths and weaknesses but their ability to move somebody cannot and should not be quantified. It's like if someone said black ppl don't appeal to our eyes but white ppl do. That implies that white ppl are generally more attractive which is bs. Some ppl might think so even the majority( im being theoretical ofc) but its an opinion so it would be misleading to use "our" in that sentence and yours as well. Opinions are fine but they should not be stated as fact. White ppl are not more attractive than other races. They appeal more to some ppl just like how Yuzuru's skating appeals to your heart. It's a preference and style choice not a fact regardless of the majority opinion.

    • Amongst the five skaters who've been pushing the technical boundaries since 2014, Shoma Uno has the most problematic techniques with his biggest jumps. Yuzuru: textbook everything, Javier: textbook quad toes and quad salchows, Nathan Chen: textbook quad jumps across all types, Jin Boyang: textbook quad lutzs with insane height and distance. Shoma Uno? Flutzs, Floops, excessive prerotations. He gets away with them because of lack of clarity in the judging rules, but in the eyes of many he's overrated to say the least.

Canada and Japan most specifically. Like, even now I don't even enjoy watching Johnny skate like I did before I was so put off by him. Javi is my KING and he freaking retired in STYLE! Yuzu was a smug little brat the entire Olympics and I will forever remember his little stint at the practice rink. Love our ice king. Jin was so freaking graceful, same goes for Shoma, they were so on point and I was screeching like a child the entire time. Ugh, just what a good year for the men (if you weren't American) PyeongChang was!

  • I knew from the start that it would end with Yuzu, Javi, and Shoma. I feel genuinely bad for Nathan, but he simply just wasn't ready for the amount of stress that he was put under after Yuzuru's score. Same with Mikael. I think the reason that the top three are the top three is because they know each other well. There are plenty of instances of the three interacting off the ice. Shoma, in my eyes, is kind of like Yuzu's protege, for lack of a better word. You can see the influence Yuzu has on his skates. Another thing the three do, is they get out of their heads, and loosen their bodies. The first thing Yuzu does in every skate I've ever seen him do is a languid roll of his body. He always has a few moments after the music starts before he starts skating, and when he walks on the ice, it more like he's greeting an old friend father than approaching his throne. Shoma, he controls the ice with a firm but gentle hand. Javi plays with the ice, toys with it.

  • I understand this new era of figure skating since I was a skater myself in my youth. But I also think that too much emphasis is being placed on this quad jump revolution. It seems to me that they are turning the Olympics into a quad jump contest; who can do the most in their program. A quad does not a program make! It is a single element in the whole program. You don't win an Olympic medal based solely on how many quads you did. Equally important is the artistic quality and impression you make on the audience.

    • @@garysimmons1485 The quad revolution all started with Kurt Browning in 1984 when he was the first man to land a quad in a competition. Since then others have followed in his footsteps pushing the envelope turning the Olympics into a quad jumping contest. Now you see the new wave of young Russian girl skaters at 13 yrs. old doing quads. So now you have a Russian Revolution of quad jumpers too. I like to look back at older clips of skaters back in the day when there was a lot more artistry, grace and finesse. The beautiful skaters that skated elegantly. This is what drew me to the sport. I loved skating when I was younger and I competed for a while. I had fun while I did it. There wasn't the pressure then of landing big jumps.
