A visit to the private game reserve Thula Thula in Kwa-Zulu Natal South Africa resulted in an encounter with a famous bull elephant - Mbula. this elephant is detailed in the book "The Elephant Whisperer " by Laurence Anthony. In full muste Mbula did not want us near the heard as you can see.

  • He’s a big boy. So beautiful and graceful. They shouldn’t play with him like that. They better hope they don’t run in a ditch.

    • Did you see how smart that GIANT was!? He took the high ground on that jeep. This was a tactic used and still is used in war. This elephant certainly new what he was doing. The fact that he turned around so fast as the jeep reversed showed he was baiting them fools to slowly go forward thinking he was eating then SLLLLLLLLOOOOOWWWWW!!!!! He was going to charge down that hill and light them jokers up!! He new they were teasing and making fun of him, he did not appreciate that at all. That Mighty GIANT was highly offended and so was I! The animals are a gift from our heavenly father Jehovah God. He is also offended when his creation is mistreated. Rest assured those who do not appreciate his creation will not always be around to ruin the earth. If our loving creator did not love his creation do you think he would have brought the animals to Noah male and female to be preserve through the flood he brought to destroy those who opposed him? Animals are to be respected and cared for.

  • They’re a bunch of idiots. They know he’s in musth yet they continue to taunt him, one even said “he’s not a happy chappie”. They should leave him alone but no, they just think it’s a huge joke to behave like this towards a very stressed elephant. I almost wish he had caught them up, they wouldn’t be laughing then when he tips the vehicle over & tramples on them which he could do quite easily . People like this make me so mad 😡

  • Shameful conduct by the tour guide and the tourists. If the jeep tyre got punctured or the engine seized, they were in for some REAL TROUBLE. All this nervous laughter just exposes their fear in front of the mighty beasts. By their behaviour they show us what not to do in a safari. 👎🏽👎🏽

  • In the lives of the tourists, this is a fun, exciting adventure. In the lives of these creatures, they are being harassed, intruded upon and baited. They deserve to live lives as unmolested by humans as possible. They don't ask for interaction with humans, and it must be amazingly stressful in the lives of these elephants to regularly encounter humans and strange, powerful vehicles, that stalk and chase and run towards and away from their families. I wish we would look at it from a less self-centered point of view

    • Try this point of view. Elephants are poached . To save the elephants from this, in a country that is poor, you need money to fight for these elephants. Money from tourists. More tourists, more money. And that money is spent on conservation and protecting it's wildlife. Money to hire rangers . Money for their guns . Without "money from tourists" the poachers will kill every living elephant there is. That's how the safari came to be. I myself say, " thank you" to tourists and their money, and " thank you "safaris ". I'd rather see tusks on a live elephant than cut off from a dead one.

Why not then simply drive away, not fast, but also not at a speed which was baiting him again. What were they thinking? Lawrence would have been so irate, he would have probably sacked that driver without notice. If people want to get close to the lives of wild animals, then obey the rules of that world. • Batman, the problem with the behavior of the tourists is that by failing or refusing to recognize the ellies were getting upset, they made it impossible for the ellies to NOT to do what they did. Most guide companies teach guides to never "elicit" behavior they know is dangerous. That endangers ALL tour vehicles going through and if these guides continue, they could be banned from the park. That bull could have truly lost his temper...what we see is just a tiny reaction...and had he done so he would have been identified by park officials and watched for further incidents. They operate on the three strike rule. In a worst case scenario the ellie would have been destroyed for being a danger to everyone. Given the huge cost of a trip to Africa, this is also why it's SO important to carefully pick resorts and guides that know how to act properly and safely in the bush. One example is Live Safari Tours here on youtube. Their guides are much more professional and knowledgeable re proper behavior in the wild.
