“Don’t wait for your next job to do your best work. Think about every job you get as the most important job.” -Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft
In 2014, Satya Nadella was appointed CEO of Microsoft, making him only the third leader in the software company's 40-year history, following Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer. Since taking over, Microsoft’s share price has tripled. Nadella spoke to students about cultivating a sense of culture and purpose, and how through relationships with others, work becomes more than transactional.
Nadella was interviewed by Tara Hill, MBA ‘20, as part of View From The Top, the dean’s premier speaker series.
The lessons I have learnt: 1- all bold people are so damn positive. 2- Having sense of purpose is important. 3- Make your team feel included and be a supportive manager 4- We are always always imperfect 5- Build your own Attitude 6- Your purpose should be as explicit as you can 7- Empathy, Empathy, empathy 8- Don’t wait for your next job to do your best work. Think about every job you grt as the most important one😊
Thank you, Sir!
💯
The way he has transformed Microsoft from a dying giant to one of the most integrated tech companies out there is truly inspiring. This was such a beautiful Conversation
Over one trillion US dollars is just a numerical symbol. What should be more concerned about is Microsoft, a synonym for backward productivity in many people's minds. How did it achieve 12 times in 8 years?
Tara is a very intelligent and articulate interviewer who smoothly transitions to next question based on the guest’s answers.
Yes. While I was listening to the whole conversation, I got the same impression. She could take out Satya's deep thoughts and experiences with her meaningful questions followed by answers given by Satya. She is most skillful and must have well prepared for this interview. I am equally thankful to the interviewer for bringing the best out of the interviewee.
p
This the beauty of America, who ever have talent in world they take them and bright them. if he stayed in indian he will be in corner of tamilnadu IT office . thank you USA
😂😂😂 pretty sad
quite true
He may as well have been ceo of IT company in India
I feel the same now. Experienced like odd man out and always sidelined. I literally cried alone many times when things doesn't move anywhere in my professional career.
You need to be in right work environment and with right set of people to grow in your career provided you are passionate and wanted to make difference in the world.
He Said, We Build technology so that Others can build more technology wow what a Vision 🙌
Nice observation. Truly it's a huge point. A source of inspiration.
Never seen a more humble, friendly person with a glow of good energy about him. A legend of our time
This has been an enlightening conversation. It's really amazing watching a Big Tech CEO talk about humanity as the guiding principle of what tech development should be all about. His emphasis on the importance of empathy and respect will forever be etched on my mind. Thank you Satya and to the interviewer for such an amazing conversation.
I need an aspirin.
his son died
Anchor has asked questions very well. From personal to professional to strategies and AI and empathy. Opportunity with responsibility is so important with real belief in growth mind set. Most of all what makes you happy and who you are and what is your identity. Brilliant!

Not sure if I should say that I’m amazed with way the interviewer has framed her questions (all of which indicative that she is very well informed) or the CEO who did not seem uncomfortable or hesitant (again indicative that he very well knows the things around). Overall a great interview - Kudos to the interviewer for framing the right questions to the right person. Loved every minute of this discussion.
Whenever I see Satya Nadella, his smile makes me want to smile too. Let's enjoy the journey of life - do what you love and love what you do.
😊
Satya has had lot of personal strides in his personal life and he humbly accepted it that put that empathy in his professionalism. This is learning for us. Truly inspiring. And a great interview with including interviewer and interviewee.
Satya is like Monk dressed in business suit. His simplicity and the way he look at things are so full of humbleness. Technology driven by Empathy is probably the thought that ever technology company should adopt at its core. The sense of empathy in general have risen up in last few years after pandemic and global turmoil, so it becomes far more important then ever. Kudos to Tara who listened so carefully and transitioned to new set of questions in seamless manner. Overall this was worth every second spent.
@@shrishri8898 you don't need to be from iit to get a job at Microsoft
Tara could take out Satya's deep thoughts and experiences with her meaningful questions followed by answers given by Satya. She is most skillful and must have well prepared for this interview. I am equally thankful to the interviewer for bringing the best out of the interviewee.
Being able to see life from the eyes of my son. Beautiful and so inspiring how empathy defined him. Feel great being in Hyderabad. You make us so proud Satya.

'Be Bold and Be Right' Great advice
Satya Nadella is a great CEO leader that emphasise true humility and respect to others and to ourselves. Everything that embarked from his voice has a value in shaping the large organisation and in the globalisation.
I was waiting for him to mention the 2nd most influential book on him, he even passed out copies of it to management: the 2003 book "Nonviolent Communication" by psychologist Marshall B. Rosenberg.
What is the book, my friend? I think I missed that part
He didn't mention this book in this interview.
@@vinhnghiang1273 First book he mentioned was "Mindset: The New Psychology of Success" by Carol Dweck. He didn't mention "nonviolent communication" in this talk, did he?
So many US CEOs are Indian, you would think India could take advantage of that natural gift to rise economically at a faster pace.
Politics shuns the growth of real leaders who can transform India significantly.
They are successful because THEY are not in India
@@supercrazydesi well said.
we dont do that here
In India, they would hv been doing normal jobs,USA transformed them,USA IS DEFINITELY GREAT
What a great interviewer! Excellent session, thank you.
Great interviewer. Good questions and never interrupts.
He is like MS Dhoni among CEO's. Very cool, charming, and risk taker as well as very positive
Job of an Anchor / Interviewer is to make the interviewee Comfortable and to run the show smoothly. I’ve seen many interviews and this Anchor has set the BAR VERY HIGH, it look like a casual conversation with a very close friend, but the amount of information & knowledge she made Staya share is sufficient to ACE our professional life…..Once Again Great JOB by Anchor and thanks @Stanford Graduate School of Business for sharing the Video.
Terrific answers to the final questions...classic responses which is why he is the boss
Awesome interview with a series of brilliant questions from the interviewer...

I love the ecosystem take on tech, how true. Having an obsession about what customers want and of course the cultural fit of selecting employees. Really inspiring. Microsoft transformation. Very interesting and highlights how important ethical leadership is.
Great interview. The interviewer had well thought out questions.
Golden question to ask yourself starting from today What are my most important needs and desires? Does my present life fulfill them?
Thank you so much for putting this into writing.
The culture of the society from which you draw your talent also influences what you can and cannot do as far as editing the overall culture of your current group... Balancing act

It is a great interview with wide coverage on professional qualities and leadership role which have been replied most clearly by Microsoft CEO.
Hello good evening both of you keepsafe GOD bless Us perfect interview sir 👍👍👍😍😍
Resonates at multiple levels, great!!
Very Charming & Mindfulness interview
He, as well as other Americans of Indian descent, seems to disprove the notion that Asians aren't making it to the top. On the contrary, Americans of Indian descent seem to be a well respected lot in almost any endeavor they attempt, including political.
Satya Nadella accurately understood the importance of empathy in life.
Superb Anchor. Great Satya.
He is my Role modell , I am going to attend his alma mater Booth school of Business for the Spring

SATYA MINDSET about Microsoft... He empowers his employees.. his employees create and innovate ... and those Microsoft products empower many small businesses all over the world..!
What a beautiful soul 🇺🇸.committed to growth.no other feelings.may every country follow this.
He is Bill, from his perceptions to the way he talks. I didn't find difference of a small echo in his talking, I mean see how he pause, pronounce and responded. Impressive!
Your dedication is evident. Saw similar passion in a book that's close to my heart. "The Hidden Empire: Inside the Private Worlds of Elite CEOs" by Various Authors
True inspiration
Being able to learn is good but their is a balance to be had between what you have learned and maybe encouraged to implement and what you yourself desire and expect as far as your own goals.
Great interview
Appreciate it ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏
Lots of respect to a tech mastero
Very interesting and insightful conversation

Proud to be a Manipal alumni as he studied in Manipal Institute of Technology
28 years with Microsoft and then goes on to be a non founder CEO. I so wish to know his interpersonal skills practice as I lack that.

THANK YOU SO MUCH ,FOR THIS SOMEON GREATHES INTERVENTO
see this is what I mean, but I am in absolutely different mood in case of who should be my next intimate friend, rest are going to be just "friends" strictly in that sense it will depend to which degree and to what level... Indians have native to international intelligence, ancient culture DNA seeped inside out bones, all it needs now is streamlining in terms of population and its reserve banks distribution, integrity honesty in its work.
He is a doing phenomenal job
