  • This basically sums up what motoring used to be here in Sweden! Back in the days when I was doing a bit of folkracing the cars were basically sold by lottery tickets after the race - for 5000 SEK (~$500) so nobody would "pay to win" with a more expensive engine etc. All down to driver skills and mostly luck... ;) It was a fantastic sport back in the 80's and 90's and seemingly so still today! We Swedes are a friendly bunch and that's why Guy fitted in so well because he's probably one of the friendliest guys I've ever seen! Awesome episode!!! I hope Guy's back for more folkrace in the future because it's basically a sport made for him - whilst being pretty safe since the speed is limited (by design) and the cars have to be built according to strict safety rules so you'll always walk away from a crash. Thank you for making this! It brought back some memories for sure :)

    • The price is adjusted to 8000SEK but otherwise its still the same. So they still have to sell the car if anyone wants it

  • Folkracing is the best kind of racing. Friendly people and drivers, soda, beer, hamburgers and hotdog, cheap beat up cars, no fuzz, no hard feelings, tearing up the track, eachother and push the machines to it's limit. Nothing to spare so just go nuts then sell or scrap the car when it over and back at it again :)

They added a catergory of racing open for everyone (jokamiehenluokka - every man's league) which when it came to Sweden in the early 80s was called folkrace. I am from Sweden myself so I am not defending any national pride here. It has, however, become a sport in Sweden and in that sense it is a Swedish version of banger racing and rally cross mix but Finland deserve some cudos for inventing it. :)

    @manfacilitymetalworks1296@manfacilitymetalworks12962 жыл бұрын
    • Folk Rally is a full contact motor sport popular around Sweden/Finland and Norway for example. For the common person that want to get into racing its one of the easier ones to sign up for, and cost wise, its not wallet breaking to get the gear needed to enter compared to other international mainstream rally sports. "Folk basically means people" so People Rally id guess you could call it. Most of all its quite fun to look at live due to all the contact between the cars. But no, it's not rally cross - as the rules in rally cross is much more strict and the contact in rally cross is usually much milder in comparison when they try to overtake someone or block passage.
