Pokemon Competitive Singles in Generation 3 has a long history. Among the first Pokemon players can encounter are the Starters, and Gen 3 has some of the best Competitive starters to offer.
Swampert is a staple of Competitive play, and Blaziken is a solid niche Mixed Attacker. The worst of the 3 would be Sceptile, but even this Grass type Starter has it's unique value to offer on certain teams.

Jimothy Cool is uploading more high quality scripted content on his main channel folks, this is insane.
You didn't factor in the hidden Blaziken debuff, that causes it to choke every other game
Poor Sceptile. It's my favorite Pokemon of all time but it's really hurt by having its offensive stats split between physical and special. If it was dedicated to one or the other it could have worked a lot better (though for gen 3 specifically it probably wouldn't work as a physical attacker). It just doesn't hit hard enough on either side because of that. It seems like Game Freak learned how to better optimize fast offensive starters in the future generations. Sceptile walked so Greninja, Cinderace, and Meowscarada could run (very fast)
it's not really about stats... Sceptile has 85 atk 105SpA and 120 Speed... Greninja has only 103 spA but 123 SPeed and 95 Atk. They have basically the same stat spread but why greninja is better? because of better movepool and abilities. Same with Meowscarada. Sceptile has good enough stats, but shallow movepool.
@@GapiszMiSieNaBebech and don't forget typing, plus that those extra points in speed really do help against similar stated pokémon.
@@GapiszMiSieNaBebech And dual STAB helps a lot too patching up Greninja's otherwise mediocre offense. What Greninja, Cinderace, and Meowscarada also have in common is high BP moves with little to no drawback where Sceptile is left having to rely on Leaf Storm and Focus Blast which are not nearly as consistent as the others' options.

Sceptile needs Sharpness four gens ago. Seeing it slowly and painfully drop in viability sucks a lot, especially since the other members of the trio have been living it big in higher tiers with semi-frequent buffs. To throw salt on the wound, Sceptile had by far the worst Mega out of the three, with Blaziken having a busted Mega no matter what thanks to HA Speed Boost and Swampert being an almost must-run on rain teams with Swift Swim. Give Sceptile Sharpness over Unburden (Unburden is a good ability, but Sceptile really needs immediate power over Speed and Game Freak isn't giving a starter three abilities unless they are the anime protagonist's favorite), and swap its Attack and Sp. Atk. Game Freak has already shown they can nerf stats between generations - sometimes _during_ a generation - and can clearly buff stats as well, so why not give +20 to its Attack and -20 to its Sp. Atk? 105 Attack, 120 Speed, access to DD, and now once again being the strongest user of Leaf Blade (it would just barely always beat out Kartana in raw damage) would give it _some_ niche in the higher tiers. I know this is a Gen 3 focused video, but they can't exactly buff the Sceptile here, so...
Leafblade is only 70 BP, not 80, which is likely not helping it much.
I wonder if the extra 10BP would fix many of the "oops, doesn't quite one-shot" issues lol.

It’s still a crime that Sceptiles Attack and Special Attack were never swapped
From the design to its signature move it feels like a physical attacker. But they had to go with special, because no special split. Only to do the split the very next gen and completely fucking sceptile over in the process.

It's an even bigger crime when you realize Leaf Blade is actually used well by other grass types and both Blaze Kick and Muddy Water is pretty much non-existent among others unless there's no choice.
see the cool thing about sceptile is that when i run sceptile i just run modest sceptile to actually get the OHKO against starmie and salamence, that DOES mean you cant quite outspeed mons like gengar and starmie but only if they run a plus speed nature with max investment which is really rare since they like to run p balanced EV spreads
Sceptile ironically became bad after the physical special split after losing thunder punch it was all down hill
Sceptile is also the worst starter to used during its generation besides meganium because of a very shallow level up moves compared the two starters blaziken and swampert has access to high bp moves even fking meganium in its generation can learn solar beam late game what does sceptile learn in late game? This trio has been one of the best starter trios in competetive, swampert does swampert stuff and wad OU ranked twice, Blaziken with Speed Boost was so broken it got banned from OU 3 times and even though sceptile is the worst out of the 3, its unburden + SD sets are deadly in lower tiers and it got banned from PU in gen 8, i haven’t even talked about the megas

Why Rock tho? There aren’t any traits, moves or dex entires that hint at Sceptile being Rock type. Fighting and Dragon would make more sense as Sceptile does learn a good amount of Dragon moves and learns a ton of Fighting type moves (especially having a few dex entires that acknowledge it’s fighting prowess)

ive been working towards making battle frontier teams on my copy of emerald but i cant trade and while i know swampert is a top tier i really wanted to try Sceptile as my starter and run a subseed set unfortunately the only way to get leech seed is via egg move from Bulbasaur which would require trading i could probably run subseed Meganium as it can breed with brelloom but i was considering running a Feraligatr set to make up for the lack of swampert

Well, CB wouldn't really help because those were all special moves. It wasn't until gen 4 that thunderpunch and leafblade became physical

It deserves a better special movepool than Energy Ball, Dragon Pulse that only hits one type super-effectively, Focus Miss, and Hidden Power or some other obscure move.
@@HimekoIzayoi In my ideal world Sceptile could run Unburden with whatever resist Berry I saw fit, and then have Quiver, Energy Ball, ThunderBolt and Ancient Power. Hits for supereffective 4 of 5 weakness, has a STAB move, and could easily become a great sweeper... but unfortunately that's not the world we live in so it's best grass move is leaf blade

Dirge is UU but still very viable in both ubers and OU. Meow is OU and still very good. The duck was never good in OU but is solid in UU. If you meant the gen 3 starters, sceptile and swampert are completely powercrept out of the higher tiers, blaziken is a viable in OU thanks to speed boost but not too common, banned from UU

If you would like to see Sceptile excel, Season 1 of the Generation Jumble! A small format where we take new Pokemon, and place them into Gen1 on GroundBacks youtube channel. Needless to say, Sceptile with an Auto-Crit Leaf Blade did amazingly! Zapdos, Moltres and Metagross all stopped it being Number1 though!
I love Sceptile, but personally I feel GF should have made him a physical attacker. He barely has any special moves to work with as opposed to the many physical moves he has.
Blame the special-physical split for that. Many moves in its learnset were special in Gen 3
Swampert is the best - wish it got Thunder Punch, Sludge Bomb, Supercell Slam Blaziken is the second best - could have sworn it got Dragon Claw Sceptile is pure torture to use in the main game, don't even get me started on when you get to after Slateport City. And you have to put too much work into it {which can only be done in Emerald}, and its move pool makes you think its a physical attacker when it clearly isn't.
You could also mention that sceptile is an absolute GOAT in the ADV 1v1 format!

Sceptile always has the short end of the stick. Its movepool never match its stats somehow. Good physical moves but bad physical stats, shallow special moves but good special stat At least it was somewhat usable in gen 3
Why not using substitute over and over and then using ivergrow boost to give leaf blade the buff it needs?

I've used petaya before. It can actually make a late game sweep possible. Prrtty fun to play.

At least Serperior got Contrary and becomes more viable. Though I like to see if it learns Draco Meteor or other coverage Special & Physical move.

Lol dude giving it a dragon typing means giving it access to the nuke "draco meteor" Which gives you a strong stab again bug,poison,fire,flying,grass Basically everything resisted by grass and a specs stab draco meteor from sceptile does 78% to defensive zapdos So rethink sceptile never will drop below RU if dragon typing
