9th May 2021 - First Eggs Hatched! - Blue tit nest box live camera highlights
In a bit of a shock for all of us the first egg hatched at around 4pm today and much to some people's surprise our female ate the empty shell. After around half an hour both birds started feeding the chick so good news there!
Another egg hatched shortly after 7pm and there's a little bit of concern for this chick. Despite lots of attempts by the female it can't be confirmed that the 2nd chick was taking food. Hatching so close to the end of the day it seems unlikely that this chick will get food again until the morning assuming that it makes it through the night.
Plenty of eggs still to hatch so stay glued to the livestream if you can.
Now might be the time to share the stream with friends, family, schools and retirement homes who might want to watch some chicks growing up. We'll only have the chicks for around 3 weeks!
More tomorrow...

What a good Dad he is making sure mom and kids have plenty of bugs to eat. Mom seems concerned that Jr doesn’t have much of an appetite.
It’s amazing to see it, even though it’s being done by so many living creatures since the beginning of time. But it just shows how parenting is supposed to look, even at a small scale.
How on earth could anyone dislike this?! It’s pure and natural and oh-so-adorable!
@May Longgone Yeah, some people even eat eggs. They buy them from a grocery market, funding an industry that literally grinds up live male chicks in a macerator, each and every day, billions of chicks a year, since the males aren't profitable. I guess the people disliking this video must be the same ones who enjoy eating omelettes. 😬
yeah
@May Longgone okay ....damn way to ruin things. Why are you bringing up your stance on abortion on a video about birds...do it somewhere else.
@May Longgone wrong video
@@whosfelicia5328sounds like u wanna go on a march to protest that, or is it a trauma..
The amount of consciousness these birds show is amazing.
Everything they do is instinctive tho
@@TheDeadMeme27 Nearly everything we do is too.
@@69lizards81 I thought about that as I was posting the comment, youre right technically everything we do has an instinctive drive
It proves we have a Creator who designed us. His name is God and His Son's name is Jesus 😁🙌🙌🙌

It’s a good nest, she keeps it so clean.
Omg they know the shell is calcium.
Birds know what calcium is? Lol
@@DDoubleEDouble I asked one and he said yes.
@@RobMedellin Well I asked one and she said no so maybe some birds are smarter than others
@@I1-_Ok_-1I yeah, makes sense, I should have imagined
All wildlife mothers eat their afterbirth, even some humans. They lost vital nutrients making it.
16:10 the dad trying to get the mom to hold another bug while trying to figure which bug the baby wants to eat lol
I didn’t expect the bird to eat the shell it was kinda interesting
Probably needs that calcium back after pushing out 8 eggs? lol
Is this the equivalent of eating your own placenta?
@@_Dumb_Answers that’s kinda what I thought too, like when bears and dogs and stuff eat the placenta after…
I think its also maybe to hide the evidence of babies from predators
@@TheKnallkorper Yeah I get it. You gotta get rid of the placenta somehow to avoid suspicion from your family sometimes.
7:03 Mom: look honey one of them is here! Dad: oh God, they're coming. Wait just a sec. Dad: here honey, a present. *gives mom a big bug* Congratulations.
17:10 he is feeding his wife 🖤 ✨
I just want to say you don’t get enough praise and appreciation for these beautiful videos this makes my heart warm and fuzzy during this pandemic
Wow I had no ideas till today that birds ate the shell! Absolutely fascinating!
Love how she more focus eating the egg shell then her newborn child
Maybe she needs the energy to then gather food. Mums always thinking ahead.
@@Syzygyzzz huh
@@blackthunder9531 oh you were saying she was more focused on the egg than the child. I was thinking she maybe used the egg remains for health. 🤷♀️
@@Syzygyzzz I know when I say huh that means big brain

Aw it was Mother’s Day too how cute
This is amazing. I had a bird family right above my front door, the mom bird made a nest on my motion sensor lights, and had 3 babies. I would watch them out of my front window. So cute. They have grown up and flown away now. I kinda miss them. They grow up really fast. Lol The whole process only took a few months.
This is amazing! Thank you for sharing.
I know this was reel time, but the way they move looked like in timelapse
Wow, I absolutely love birds, this is so amazing to see, thank you so much for sharing!
I didn’t know the ate the shell.
I assume most birds have this instinct. Not only does it keep the nest clean, the shell provides Mama with the calcium her body needs to recover from laying eggs.
Yeah I didn't either but it kinda makes sense 😂
Great video, thank you! 🙂
Hands down most relaxed and fascinating video.
Great stuff.

Who wants their own nest to sleep in, this looks comfy…
How do birds know how to this? Is it instincts?
I mean, as soon as they are born they spend alot of time with their parents. Maybe they watch and learn as soon as they hatch. Or like u said, instinct. Just wired to be that way. But they seem intelligent, I day there is a secret bird base somewhere. If anything is going to rule the world it would be birds, not cats. Birds have high and low.
Amazing! Are the highlights the only thing we can see or is there a livestream of this box? If so, where can I find it?
I’ve found it now! Thanks so much for this!
@@emilyy5004 and were? Can you share it with me?
@@MyAlone-nx9dz I think the babies have all fledged now!!! So the livestream has stopped !

Wonder why it eats the shell?
Shes hungry
Calcium. Squirrels will do the same thing to bones.
I know it's for calcium and all but Imagine eating something that came out of your arsehole
@@I1-_Ok_-1I some women eat their placenta
@@I1-_Ok_-1I animals eat the sacks their babies come out of, like if you had a pet cat or dog you'd likely see them chew the sack off around their baby and eat it as well as clean the baby up and that stuff gets eaten too. It's a source of energy as well.
