We all love the Disney princesses. How could you not? We watched their films so many times, that their images are practically ingrained in our brains. But what if the way they are animated in the Disney films isn’t how they actually should have looked? This is How Disney Princesses Should Have Really Looked.
Jasmine is one of the prettiest Disney princesses around. But her outfit was extremely inaccurate. For a girl who lived in an Arabic speaking country in such a conservative time, her outfit would have been completely different. She would not have been showing her tummy at all like she did in the film. Her head probably also would have been covered so we would have never seen her long, black hair.
Whether it’s Ariel, Cinderella, Rapunzel, or Mulan, there are a lot of inconsistencies with these princesses’ looks. Stay tuned to This is How Disney Princesses Should Have Really Looked to see why Snow White’s hair should have been totally different!

  • Rapunzel was trapped in a tower. Her clothing was probably something her mother bought in the market so it wouldn’t have been very royal looking.

    • Even set in a fantasy land, it's supposed to be set in something like a historical period and no one ever bought clothing at a market. Everyone either made their own clothing (if you were poor) or had it made for them (if they were rich). Fabrics would have been bought at the market, but other than that it was all on the individual to sew their clothing.

  • Why all the dresses were over simplified in contrast with their historical counterparts? For the same reason Mickey Mouse and his friends are drawn with 4 fingers: *It saved up a lot of time and work for the animators.* Imagine yourself having to draw all those dresses in full detail, frame by frame, with a tight schedule back in the day. Same goes for 3D CGI graphics, helps avoid time constraints and clipping issues. The phrase "less is more" fully applies here for that reason.

    • It's ALMOST like they themselves didn't bother to research while saying the animators that had to draw these characters over and over over thousands of times didn't so research. SURELY they can not be hypocrites that don't understand 2d animation at all and the work that goes into it. Why that would make them look very foolish indeed.

      @Lucallia@Lucallia6 жыл бұрын
    • Exactly how is this Disney's fault? I don't believe Disney ever said it wasn't in Denmark; In fact i don't think they ever gave a location. The people on this channel made that assumption based off of lack of research and incorrect assumptions from 'context clues' they got from the show.

      @Lucallia@Lucallia6 жыл бұрын
  • "The movie feels like it's entirely set in its own fantasy world" That makes sense. Actually, I think that's the point

    @Nirhiel@Nirhiel5 жыл бұрын
  • There are a few things in this that are missing some points. Firstly Aroura was French and the dress she wore was made by the Fairies who were looking after her and they were living like peasants to hide her royalty for 16 years plus they decided to make the dress on her birthday so they didn't have time to make it all fancy and royalty like the Queen (her mother in the film). Next Ariel, her wedding dress in the film does have the mutton sleeves! Then you are comparing Tiana's swamp wedding dress to a casual dress of the 20s. The dress you should have compared is the dress she wore at the end of the film. Then again she is a princess by then. Next, Snow White was made a slave to the Queen who didn't want to make her look any beautiful than her so she would have given her basic clothes at the time or something to make her less royal than the Queen. With Cinderella, you should have compared Claire's image to the original design of Cinderella, not the evolved version which made every past Disney princess have so many sparkles on their dresses. And finally with Rapunzel, again like Aroura grew up like a peasant so of course, her dress won't be as fancy as the high class or royalty she is. I know it much but let's not forget that most of the Disney princess before 2000s were hand-drawn, imagine how hard it would be for the artists to draw frame by frame a dress with so much detail to match the era they were in, especially the classic princesses who drawn traditional, not digital. One more note, Mulan did not become a princess in the film. She becomes a princess due to Disney adding a new requirement of performing an act of heroism.

She either prays or recites a poem (there are different versions). The poem goes like this: "Shake, shake, Hazel Tree, Gold & Silver all over me". A golden shower falls onto her thus creating the dress & shoes fit to wear to a Royal Ball.

The wedding dress had also been tied into her being a frog at the time she married. She was in the middle of the bayou and the dress reflected that. • There is a LOT of innacuracies in this video. Many very obvious ones. Although what really put the cherry on top for me is when they used a Victorian image while describing the kind of fashion the era beauty and the best is set in would use. If real research had been done, this video wouldn't have been so abysmally misinformed to the point of making such a poor mistake. Not to mention, no offense to the artists but a lot of the 'realistic outfits' still where not realistic in the slightest. A good portion of them did not take the character's actual social ranking or personality into account either for example. Like again, Belle. She's not royalty, and not extremely well off. She's not poor nor middle class, a little bit higher I would say, but definitely not wealthy. Only the wealthy could afford the fashionable trends with powdered wigs and pastel colored gowns (wich was very popular in France mostly. Honestly the live action movie did a WAY better job at being a bit more historically accurate than this video). It's all just, horribly wrong and misinformed.

So either they came from money but were disgraced or his inventions at least brought in some income. In the movie she sings about the poor provincial town and the simple folk there that also points to her having been upper class compared to the peasants as despite her kindness she still looks down on them for living simple lives thats a arrogance anyone who has faced actuall peasantry would not have.

To traditionally and fluently animate such detailed and intricate designs frame by frame would take a toll on any animator. This is why simple designs are important for 2D animation.

    • i totally agree, and also, not nobody knows but a secondary meaning of the story is about homosexuality: the general seemed to be gay since he had fallen in love with someone who they thought was male. now, in the creator's idea he could also have fallen in love with "him" because he felt the "femininity" "he" actually somehow showed (I mean, it's impossible to TOTALLY fool someone about one's gender, some of your actual gender characteristics MUST slip out of the act) or maybe he was bisexual and not only liked men, so he was fine with Milan being a girl after all. And instead in the end he does marry a girl. Like, it seemed to be a message that homosexuality is fine and homosexuals should have the same rights and worth that straight people, along with the main women's right message, so why did they have to make him turn straight? I sincerely think they missed a good chance.

      @Ryan_Nico@Ryan_Nico6 жыл бұрын
    • it's because at the beginning the story seemed to transmit the message that women do not only deserve equal rights to men, but that they are also worthy even if they are not married and they can do whatever they want with their lives (in China at the time this was totally absurd) and instead after all her effort to work her way up and show she was worthy by herself and she could do things that no one could think of just because she's a woman, she finally gets married to a man. why does the ending have to include her actually reaching what SOCIETY thinks is better, instead of just winning her personal war?

The original story doesn't have a happy ending - the mermaid dies letting the prince and his princess live.

Most fish in the film are tropical, definitely not what we have here in Denmark. You would almost assume it was placed somewhere far from Denmark. And about the homosexual theory - some believe Hans wrote it to symbol how he was in love with a man, though it has never been confirmed I believe.

  • Have you realized that belle was just an ordinary village girl? And regular girls of their status wouldn’t have powdered wigs? Sure, beast could have had one in his castle, but his parents perished years before, and we all know he isn’t that sentimental.

    @ryn-pg9wb@ryn-pg9wb6 жыл бұрын
    • Chicken Todd Yeah I can't agree more with you ! Wigs were for the Bourgeois (richest statut of the unprivileged people) who lived in a Bourg ( and clearly Belle's city is clearly not a bourg) and it was only for the men in a case of a Bourgeois ( I'm not sure about that though) To be a woman and wear a wig you had to be a noble and she's clearly not a noble

  • Personally, I'm fine with Tiana's dress. Claire Hummel's dress is more accurate for a _1920s flapper,_ yes, but for most of the movie (in which she's both human _and_ in formal wear) Tiana's either in a dress she borrowed from her friend Charlotte, who is _obsessed_ with all things related to the Classic Generic European Princess, or she is marrying/has just married Prince Naveen, which would naturally call for a big, fancy "princessy" wedding dress instead, and the fashion for wedding dresses up until relatively recently tend to revolve around a handful of more-or-less timeless traditional templates rather than the cutting edge of current formal fashion.

    @Anastas1786@Anastas17866 жыл бұрын
    • Anastas1786 plus Naveen comes from a different place the idea of fashion is mostly definitely different for him

      @queenofthepandas8666@queenofthepandas86666 жыл бұрын
    • I agree with you! Also a lot of people don't realize that flappers were actually UNcommon, flapper fashion was a rebellion at the time, so generally only women on the cutting edge of fashion who were very interested in the looks of hollywood dressed that way. It makes sense for Charlotte since she's got a lot of money and an interest in those things, but not for Tiana. Additionally African American hair is very hard to manage at shorter lengths, so it's unlikely she would've bobbed it regardless! And, like you said, she wears very little of her own wardrobe in the movie, with her two costumes for the party, and her two work uniforms, her magical wedding dress of lilypads, and her second wedding dress from her human wedding (which is very much in the fashion)

      @ellesbelles64@ellesbelles646 жыл бұрын
    • Lol also she got the magic dress after a make out session, it isn't like she bought it.

      @gustafae@gustafae5 жыл бұрын
    • i remember reading a short story from the time period that talked about how getting a bob was scandalous. the women that did it were treated akin to hookers. especially when you added the flapper dresses with their lack of 'proper' undergarments. and as you point out an African American woman wouldn't likely have hair that would bob anyway. without the weight of longer hair it would probably curl tight and be more of a 'fro.
