  • Hi there! I used to work for the mouse, I got to get all the characters ready for their days in the Kingdom! Pointing out the Incorrect: Tiana’s height also starts at 5’4 like some of the other girls; The largest size Disney carries is between a 12-14, depending on the princess/gown; They don’t *fire* you once you’re too old/no longer look the part of a princess; either they will give you another role at the park (as per your discretion) or they’ll give you another character to be friends with. There are plenty of other characters that are older- Fairy Godmother, Lady Tremaine, and pretty much all fur characters as long as you’re of the right height and possess the energy. Additionally, YES all face characters are trained to be fur characters but rarely do princesses get to be the common fur characters, because their height is often between 5’4-5’7, and many of the fur characters are way shorter or way taller. They’re between-size gals. If a performer needs more than 5 days of training to completely master their character, they are absolutely given that because Disney prioritizes “Good Show”. Disney doesn’t make these height/weight/age/specific-look rules to be mean or discriminatory. As per good-show, they just want their characters to be as true to the movies and books as possible. It’s never anything personal against anyone’s body-type or face.

    • I'm glad you pointed these out. A lot of people like to rag on Disney, and make them seem worse than they are. I mean yes, they are a business, but still. Like with the not hiring women over a certain weight for the princesses. You're hiring someone to imitate a character. You wouldn't cast Danny DeVito as Superman, for example.

    • I've seen really pretty girls who look like princesses not get chosen because they just don't look like the other princess actresses, which makes sense. If a little girl sees cinderella twice but she looks different the second time, she could realize it's fake.

I believe people are good but then tend to show only everything that's bad in others. I believe in what's good. Have a good day, even though it's been 7 months since you posted.

    • What if your about 26-27 but you look pretty young still, people still think i'm anywhere between 16-18 years old. I thought about something like this for years, but never actually been to Disney world myself, its always been way to far from where I live. I thought about doing the Disney college program some day.

  • I worked in the entertainment department at Disney World, and can honestly say so many of these things are completely wrong. The height and size requirements and the winter costumes for starters. Snow White has a different size requirement and has the largest dress size out of all the princesses. Her costume can go larger than a size 10. Also, the princesses wouldn't play Minnie Mouse. Her height max is smaller than the princesses. A common fur character for them to play is Pluto. All of the princesses do in fact have winter clothes. This correlates with the Disney animated series and sequels which show them having cold weather clothing.

  • 1:26 "Disney actually discriminates *against* ladies of a certain size." dis·crim·i·nate dəˈskriməˌnāt 1 recognize a distinction; differentiate. 2 make an unjust or prejudicial distinction in the treatment of different categories of people or things, especially on the grounds of race, sex, or age. They appear to be using category 2 here. __________ Job requirement: business. a quality or qualification that you must have in order to be suitable for a certain job. Communication skills are a job requirement in public relations. These princesses look a certain way. Having weight requirements is common sense. It has absolutely *nothing* to do with the national average, so don't pretend that factor means anything.

I'm not disagreeing with your assessment of Disney's standards for the Princess job, I'm just pointing out that your comparisons could be a bit more accurate. The dentist comparison is SPOT on.

She told my mom about a time some college kids started harassing her, even going as far as touching her chest to see if if it was a man or woman under the costume. She tried to get away, but apparently those costumes are hard to move in and she ended up tripping and falling over, and apparently it's nearly impossible to stand up while wearing those costumes. • What's so strange about requiring the girl to look like the princess? Wouldn't the kids wonder why the princess is taller, older, or fatter than they recall? Movie studios, Broadway, or any entertainment endeavor all have requirements. Sure it's discrimination, but not in its worst racial sense. It's presentation.The narrator sounds as if narrating is too hard. She needs a 11m 42sec break beforehand.

  • to some people in the comment section. 1: quit pulling the race card. not all Disney princesses are white. jasmine, tiana, moana, and pocahontas aren't white. obviously you're letting "white privilege" speak before thinking that maybe you'll look like an idiot. 2: this is not cosplay. this is a job. all jobs have a certain requirement before you can have a job. according to dunkin donuts, you have to be very friendly and outgoing if you want to work there and act politely to customers who are being rude. this is a business, not a hobby. they want them to look like the princess so that even the adults can tell the type of quality Disney has is top notch. 3: stop pulling the gender/sex card. no a man cannot be a Disney princess. it ties in with the quality thing I brought up in the 2nd point. jasmine is a young woman, not a 23 yr old man. I know it sounds harsh and tumblr will get on my case but it's a business. not a hobby. 4: the weight card? really? appearance plays a huge part and it's clearly stated that you have to look like the other actresses to get the job. it looks a bit strange to see a super skinny Elsa and then come back to see she's curvy. IT'S A BUSINESS NOT A HOBBY. if you're really that concerned about it, dress up and walk around your house or con as the princess. you won't get paid unless you enter into and contest and win but you won't be fired or rejected for being too tall or too wide.

  • Why is any of this a big deal? I used to be a professional dancer, and height, weight, and age are relevant. You are part of the art, and image and talent are everything in performing arts - especially those where the character you are performing is of a predetermined look. One of the reasons for Disney's success with "face" characters is their quality-control.

    @truegrit7697@truegrit76976 жыл бұрын
    • True Grit because it once again reiterates the idea that a woman must be a certain heigh, weight, age and, even though they don't say it color, in order to be a "princess". In order to be valued you have to fit these credentials. Why is that a big deal? Well women deserve better, humanity deserves better.

Or even give priority to actresses who speak their character's language fluently. I actually went to Disney for a choir trip, we got to see the behind the scenes. They gave us the option to do a workshop, and we were all very curious about the audition process for characters...... That shit grueling work. Memorize a dance number, a song, do improv. I think one of the mock interviewers told me I'd make a good Snow White, which made me laugh. She's my least favorite princess.

    • But Disney princess speak English in all the films, the original films that is. And Disney World is in America where it’s an English speaking country. So no they shouldn’t have to learn another language, except American Sign Language I agree , because that’s easy to learn and necessary. If someone struggles speaking English then they can hire a translator to go on their trip with them, or just not talk to the princess in depth which no one does anyway. Princesses don’t require talking, they smile.. say hello, and take a picture and sign an autograph, that’s it for the child/princess meeting experience. I do think however it would be a great idea if they learned basic hello, goodbye, how are you, and nice to meet you in every basic language so that they can say that to kids when meeting them. A basic hello in every language would be simple to learn and do! But learning to speak another entire language fluently is a huge deal and only Harvard alumni or Ivey league graduates can do that usually. It would be more easier and more practical for every person visiting America or who is another nationality living in America visiting Disney world , to learn English! That makes more sense. Most country’s require you learn English anyway even if you don’t ever come to America or Britain. Germany requires high school students learn English fluently, and so does every school in Sweden. So any child or young adult from Sweden and Germany will be able to speak English perfectly on demand. That’s how it should be, English is the primary language of the world and people should learn it, the princesses shouldn’t have to learn a million different languages when kids should learn English (just one language extra).

  • I just don't get why the costumes have to look so cheesy. It's like, you can definitely give the costumes a little more flavour and authenticity and the kids will still recognise the characters. They don't have to be identical cartoon clones. Also, Mulan's costume could hardly be more incongruous with her character. She looks like the forcibly made-over version of herself she complained about and resented in the movie. I can just imagine the decision-making process on this one: "What about Mulan, dude? She's not that princess-y." "Oooh, big problem. It's okay, we'll give her a princess-y costume even though there was an entire musical number in her movie about how she didn't fit that mold."

How they look and act matters way more than what they want so all the requirements are simply part of being an actor. The requirements about privacy are in effect in any building with sensitive information and I myself have signed a couple over my working lifetime. Plus working with children checks and police checks are common in ANY industry that deals directly with the public.

You don't have to treat campers as guests you can tell them to be quite,pick up after themselves and so on and you do not have to act as if you are happiest thing on two legs. Imagine working in costumer service for kids in place where you supposed to act as a princess while treated as servant smiling all that time and making sure YOU pick up after all those kiddies AND making sure no one sees YOU picking up after all those kiddies. Camp counselor is no where near the heat those girls get. And you don't have to wear pretty dress that's very uncomfortable and make sure it does not get dirty or wrinkled even if those kiddies kick at you. And you don't get to pray you don't pass out from heat and thirst before your break starts. There is a reason they get this type of schedule.

And before people go on tangents about how "imagine how tiring it would be surrounded by children and in the heat blah blah blah”, I work at a theme park as a rides operator, not just standing there doing nothing, but actually having to run about, giving safety briefings etc, as well as maintenance. During the summer I’ve literally collapsed due to heat exhaustion due to the fact that I cannot refill my water bottle. I would kill to be a Disney princess.

You can tell people you work there as long as you keep character integrity. As has been said before they’ll tell you who they’re friends with. There are so many lists like this on the internet that are full of false information

  • It's 'strange' that one of the requirements for playing a Disney princess is that you LOOK like her? An interesting perspective. Also interesting was your suggestion that Disney is 'discriminating' against plus-sized women. It's not discrimination if you don't hire someone because they can't do the job you're hiring for. It reminds me of how feminists insist women are 'discriminated' against because the physical requirements for being a firefighter are 'biased' toward men, and they actually tried to get the requirements lowered. Um, no. The requirements are 'biased' toward people who have the physical strength to do the job properly and safely. Firefighters need to be able to chop down doors with axes, hold high-pressure hoses, and lift and carry injured/unconscious people out of burning buildings. I'm all for equality. But by that I mean equality, in that anyone can do anything they dream of doing, as long as they CAN ACTUALLY DO IT. I don't mean letting people do jobs they are not truly qualified for, putting people's lives and homes at risk, just so little Suzy can live her dream of being a firefighter. And, while princessing is rarely a life-or-death occupation, the same holds true. People go to the park expecting to see their favorite characters come to life, not to see Melissa McCarthy stuffed into a Cinderella costume. Sorry, Melissa. But, hit the gym, and you might still be able to make it as a firefighter.

    • EXACTLY. Why would they hire a plus size woman for a disney princess? It's not discrimination if all the princesses are super skinny (that means they would've AUDITIONED for a skinny character) and you're kicked out for being fat.

      @ela5746@ela57466 жыл бұрын
    • i don't think it's a bad thing you have to be skinny to be hired, it's because if you weren't thin then the all the cute little children wouldn't believe that THAT'S there favorite princess they watch all the time and they should believe it's them it's the whole point of the thing! And + it makes the girls work for their goals like we learn to do in The Princess In The Frog Disney made a movie about working for your goals! BTW not a fan of that movie just saying

      @ThursdayNextSO-27@ThursdayNextSO-276 жыл бұрын
    • Ok, but honestly, a size 12 isn't fat XD The majority of those little girls will grow eventually in pre teens and end up being sad because they aren't as cute/perfect/thin as their princesses were. And believing that they're wrong cause they've got a 12 size it's absurd.
