    • It’s all very good and all, and not going to take away from it at all. The wind adjustment takes some getting used to But... in the end, it’s a bit... watered down Innit I’m just saying, there used to be a time where this level of ‘Archery’ would get you killed because you took too long and you most certainly wouldn’t be shooting at a stationary target. Archers used to be able to unleash 4-6 arrows in a matter of seconds, all deadly, all hitting their targets unless impeded, by shield etc. they could place an arrow through the links of chainmail and the smallest exposed areas. I respect the accuracy, but.. I also have to question some technique here, they leave their arms in full lock for far too long after they’ve reached Max draw. Now, they’re not pulling massive draw weight by any means, but it can still have an effect, tiring muscles will twitch, spasm, this alone can throw the shot off. The stationary targets just... they shouldn’t even need to sight the Board, it’ll always be in the same spot, they should be experienced enough to know the distance well enough to draw, adjust and shoot in the space of a 1-1.5 seconds. For al the above reasons, Clay Shooting, (not as much skill needed to wield a shotgun vs a Bow) but the dynamics of the sport, makes it A) more difficult B) better to watch. Mama always said “don’t practise till you get it right, practise till you don’t get it wrong”

Let’s say an inch higher than the target and just above the red cup in the far distance will hit the board every time, but aiming directly at the rim of that cup will hit the 10. They know the rim of that cup is where the bullseye is but being just even a millimeter off won’t score you a gold medal

  • All of these people who haven't competed at the upper levels in Archery saying "what is the coach even for?" 1) Archery is very much a mentally exhaustive sport in absolute focus, conditioning, form and confidence, taking years to master - a good coach can and knows how to cater to these demands of an archer in the midst of a competition; 2) There are very subtle techniques in a perfect form for each archer - a good coach can identify and provide feedback to the archer (when to do so, refer to point 1); 3) Every elite archer knows their equipment, but not every archer knows how to fix their equipment in the moment, assess damage (if any) - a good coach can provide this oversight; and 4) Psychologically, having that one person in your corner, no matter what, it helps to face against a crowd or desperate times. Hopefully some will find this useful, instead of hating on archery coaches and (what feels to me) making a mockery of one the greatest and underrated sports
