Not only is this show a gripping crime and family drama, but it's also very funny and full of movie/TV references. It's got everything.
I feel Sopranos is a comedy first.
Mary watching Sopranos? You know, Quasimodo predicted all this.
What, you're gonna tell me you never pondered that? The 'back' thing with Notre Dame?
Quasimodo predicted this? Did he have a hunch?
@@Isleofskyeidk if you get the reference but nice! good one!
Who did what?
@@Cassxowary I certainly got the reference my friend:) Back in the Mid 1960's I used to watch a French Wrestler in London named "Quasimodo" after the fictional character my Victor Hugo:)
ready to watch another 86 (including this one) reactions from someone diving into my favorite show of all time
And by one of my favorite reactors!
I'm 47 and never watch this series. Now on season 3. Just a great series so far :)
I thought I was the only one! I saw and article saying this show was turning 25 this year so I decided to check it out. Powered through it all in like 2 months lol
watched* but glad you finally decided to and it is (:
My favorite detail of this episode is the maitre d when Tony goes to the restaurant. He brings his girlfriend and the guy says “Mr. Soprano, good to see you.” Then Tony brings Carmela the next night and the guy greets him with “Mr. Soprano, months we don’t see you!”
I was living in New Jersey when this series was filmed. They really captured the culture in a lot of ways. The mob stuff was outside of my experience, but the language, food and people are spot on. Plus, it’s always fun when you see places you know on television.
I lived in Jersey for two yrs. Man humid summers and cold winters …I enjoyed my time there 💯
Some series are over-hyped. But, some live up to it. I believe The Sopranos lives up to the hype and I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I hope you do too. Have a great day, Mary!
One of my all time favorite series! I hope you enjoy your Sopranos journey!
Welcome to The Sopranos. I’ve watched this series at least 10 times, gets better every time!
This is probably redundant to say, but this is such a good show. James Gandolfini deserves all the accolades for his role as Tony Soprano, but Lorraine Bracco is just as great in the role of Dr. Jennifer Melfi.
And Edie Falco arguably robbed her of an Emmy one year. Both the leading women are great.
A mob boss going to a therapist as a framing device was brilliant.
I really like that you sometimes do software zooms on areas of the screen where things of interest are happening. I know it's extra steps, extra work, but it really adds to the experience. It's like you're saying "Yes, I did notice".
Thank you for finally watching The Sopranos!!
The reference to the Godfather is about when the movies were released. With the Godfather movies, movie theatres were reporting that at every show in some theatres, the front rows would be packed with mobsters. Released in 1972, the first movie especially, came at a time when mob structure and traditions were fading or already gone. It’s said that mobsters took the movie as almost an instructional show and started adopting some ideas for the movie as far as behaviour, dressing, talking and operating. I don’t think it’s completely known whether they actually adopted real traditions, or adopted 'traditions' that had been invented in the book/movie Some of the cast in the Sopranos are ex-mobsters and criminals, and during the time that it was being made, there was no shortage of 'people, stepping forward to let the cast and crew know how things would be handled or how people would react to various situations
So good to see you starting on the Greatest series of all time and is 99% No.1 in most people's Top 5 series of all time. Series 1 is great as it builds a lot of the characters.I haven't watched this in about 10 years.I have the box sets on Dvd,blueray and now on Apple TV bought for convenience. You wont be disappointed and the acting ability of James Galdofini as Tony Soprano is spectacular and the co-star are all 10 out of 10 as well.❤ My top 5 series of all time. 1.The Sopranos 2.The Wire 3.The Good Wife 4.The Shield. 5.House
Never had the makings of a Varsity Athlete
Greatest series and especially character study in TV history.... you're in for a hell of a ride, Mary!
Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad, Mr. Robot, Succession, Dark, The Leftovers, The Bear, Barry, and Hannibal>Sopranos.
@@reynaldolorenzo8409 😂 you're probably 15... and an imbecile (look that word up) PS - Ay caramba!
@@reynaldolorenzo8409 Ay caramba, senor! Grow a brain..
Welcome to the family, Mary
Ah, I'm so happy to see you diving into The Sopranos! You're one of a handful of reactors I really enjoy watching, and Sopranos is my all-time favorite series. Looking forward to your take on one of, if not _the_ best series, ever. 🦆🦆
I'll certainly follow on this journey It is sometimes preferable to follow one or two shows at a time rather than an entire movie
Woo hoo hoo hoo! I am SO stoked here in the Pacific Northwest. You surely loved reacting to this. I’ve been watching for a long time and this old lady wishes you the best with your little boy…lucky Mama. Take care! ❤😊🎉
I'm glad that you've started this series! Please continue with it! You won't be disappointed!
16:41 possibly greatest out of context Mary quote if all time
So excited you're doing Sopranos!! (One of the best reactors + one of the greatest shows)
oh my god, i forgot how much i loved this show, i need to give it a full rewatch
Holy shit. YASSSSS!!!
Yes! Six seasons of great tv
Thrilled you’re getting to this 👏
Anthony Soprano, the first Anti Hero on TV. Started the trend of AH's that gave us more great shows.
I don't know about the first, but Vince Gilligan did say that without The Sopranos, Breaking Bad wouldn't have existed.
I'd say JR Ewing from Dallas was the first.
He's not an anti-hero. Nor is Walter White. Nor was JR Ewing. You're misunderstanding the term. Humphrey Bogart as Rick Blaine was an anti-hero in Casablanca. Steve McQueen as Hilts in The Great Escape, William Holden as JJ Sefton in Stalag 17. *_THEY_* were anti-heroes. Anti-heroes are, by definition heroic, if a bit morally ambiguous. Tony, Walter and JR were all villains. But perhaps the first two could be considered something like an "anti-villain", a character who demonstrates some positive human traits, but at the end of the day, is a bad guy.
Finally The Soprano rabbit hole! ❤
Not joking Mary this is probably the best tv show of all time, this is the show that spawned The Wire and Breaking Bad. Zoloft (Sertraline) and Prozac (Fluoxetine) are both used in Europe, I'm not sure if you call them by their "brand" name over there.
You are going to love this series, Mary! It is incredible. Personally, talking about the Sunday episode each week is what introduced me to my future wife.
@numbersasaname2291 Congrats on your upcoming nuptials! In the future, when friends talk about how they met, you & your wife will have an extra cool story.🩵✨️
You’re in a new world now 😎
At the time the show originally aired I considered this one of the best shows ever. But I don't think I have watched it since the finale. We did pass James Gandolfini on the New Jersey parkway heading to Easter dinner around halfway between the show ending and his death. There was no mistaking that smile.
Oh shit. 🤌
Soooo happy that you are getting to the Sopranos I've rewatched this show alot and it always delivers on so many levels
I’m so happy 😁
This show starts off a little different but it's so good! Looking forward to more!
This is one of the top 3 TV shows ever made. I haven't watched since it aired. Brings back good memories. Enjoy the ride!
NO WAY!! THIS IS HUGE DAMN, I'M SO THRILLED❤
WOW! So excited to watch you react to The Sopranos, the greatest tv series of all time! If you are ever not feeling any of these early episodes, don't worry! The first season is the only season that I think is a little lackluster, but all the other seasons are INCREDIBLE!!! I'm SUBSCRIBED!
Gets better every season. True masterpiece.
SUPER happy you're doing this series!
Ohhhh my God. Yes. You've made the best decision of your channel. You're about to watch the greatest narrative ever told on television and a masterpiece in comedy and drama.
wow this is a welcome surprise, one of my absolute favorite series all timed. Thank you so much for this.
Yeaaaah!
One of my favorite shows of all time. So many interesting characters, not just Tony. You're in for a heck of a ride.
"Sopranos" also makes references to: "Casino" "Scarface" "Donnie Brasco" "Serpico" "The French Connection" and "Bullitt"
Great choice, Mary. You are in for a wild ride with this one, and I'm totally here for it.
Yeah, one of the truly great series of all time right there. You'll enjoy it for sure. Cheers Mary 🍺
The actor that plays the nephew Christopher has a very serious KZhead channel where he teaches Buddhist meditation. Hundreds of hour long lessons and guided meditations. Can't post a link, but it's called " Meditation with Michael Imperioli". I've never heard him talk about it. Just popped up in my recommends after watching Sopranos stuff. Really illustrates what a great actor he is when you see his irl demeanor and how much energy he puts into spiritual things.
I did not have HBO, but my friends did and they taped it for me. I'd get a VHS tape with three or four episodes on it and catch up.
James Gandolfini was a genius actor.
I think you will like this. I loved it so much my heart would beat faster whenever the theme music came on lol
The first season was the best one. Outside of Tony, his wife, and his kids, my favorite character is Paulie Walnuts. I loved the tag line for the first season: If one family doesn't kill him, the other one will. I'm glad that you enjoyed this pilot.
Till this day this is a series with one of the best acting and writing.
4:17 I chocked while drinking water 💀
Good thing. That plane was already starting to roll. Chocking the wheels kept it on the ground.
Possibly the funniest show ever made, but definitely the greatest show. You're gonna enjoy this one.
Love your reaction
This is the best tv series ever made. I hope you watch every episode on your channel it’s a hell of journey. I envy those who get to see this for the first time enjoy.
Crime thriller you will absolutely love!!! “Cape Fear” (1991) Crime thriller with a legal twist that will be right up your alley!
Didn't watch it back in the day, but I remember the hype (which is probably why I avoided it) BUT, I binge watched the lot during 2020 the Covid year. Bloody love this show!
I’m excited for you to start this journey of The Sopranos
This show is gold! It is so good it is rewatchable and i love the fact that no character is completely likeable...Silvio goes close but every now and then the show reminds you that these people are not good people. Enjoy the show Mary!
how perfect..i just started to watch this again as well haha
my favourite show... thanks for doing reaction of this
Yesss super pumped for this reaction
Buckle up Mary! You're in for a real treat!
I’ve waited for this day! Thanks, Mary! Just remember, the sopranos has 86 episodes. It’s like watching 86 movies. Can’t wait for the wild and funny ride!
My favorite reactor watching my favorite TV show! Thank you so much!
You're gonna LOVE this show.
You're gonna LOVE this show!

True crime fact: when Carmela called Tony “bird man” it’s a reference to a real life American gangster and murderer named Robert Franklin Stroud who was widely known by his nickname “bird man of Alcatraz.”
Best series ever. Dope reaction.
Oh I will tune in weekly now that this series is on. Hehe boi
24:41 I'm not ashamed to admit it, but my estimation of Tony Soprano as a man just fuckin' plummeted
Hey, when it comes to families all bets are off
YESSSSS!
Thank you Mary for reacting to The Sopranos.
21:15 "It's like you think I was Hannibal LECTURE before or something."
"Lecher". It makes more sense.
"Without Tony Soprano, there is no Walter White" - Brian Cranston
The Sopranos is (in my view anyway) the best TV show ever. There's so many great side characters who are only in it for a season or 2 or who are only in a handful of episodes. I can't tell you who my favourite character is for fear of spoilers but he's a very complex character who did a significant length of prison time & also suffered a family bereavement. These are two huge motivations for his actions but I always felt that the script writers didn't really make this clear to the viewer as the character himself never mentions these two things. So it can be easy for first time viewers not to pick up on it
Arguably the best show ever made.
Ooo! VERY excited for rhis!!!
holy fucking jesus, i love this show. thanks for starting this shit. amazing stuff.
How come you can curse in comments but I can't?😄
@@theflyingfisherman7829 what do you mean? KZhead deletes your comments?
@@ralphserr6341 No, the comments if it has cursing won't show publicly. I can see them but no one else can. And it's annoying cuz YT won't even tell you something's wrong with your comment. So, you think you replied to someone but they never see it. Other websites will at least tell you that your comment doesn't meet "community guidelines" immediately, but not YT.
@@ralphserr6341 But then sometimes you post a comment and YT won't show it at all. But they don't tell you what's wrong with it.
I predict you'll also love the Wire, it's so unique... fav.charecters, bubbles, Omar, and bunk.... also the detective who builds tiny furniture in his spare time, I forget his name.....
Oh MAry.... you are in for a good one ... probably the best one ever.
Buckle in for a long journey with Tony.
Oh god I gotta watch this whole series again OK😆👍
Based on your reaction to this pilot episode of the show, I can assure you that you will be in for a wild, wild ride until the end.
Jersey in da house! Wow. Haven’t watched yet but I’m down witcha Mary. Didn’t expect this one.
“How do ducks do it?” Well you see Mary, when a mommy duck and daddy duck love each other very much they show it by ducking the cluck out of each other all night long and that makes a baby duck and as long as daddy duck has plenty of money and is good at ducking they all live happily ever after. Well at least until duck season, or until a bobcat comes along, or a French person, or a car, or a alligator, or a big catfish. (you should watch videos of how big catfish get here in America it’s insane)
you’re in for a wild ride!
Wish I could have seen bcs, but this is very exciting. After the first season it gets really really really really really good so just hang in there
18:40 A fellow Pomplamoose fan! I did not expect that!
How do ducks do it? Well....that is a fascinating and horrifying subject.
Yessss
Another Pomplamoose fan! :)
BEST DECISION OF YOUR LIFE, MARY!
