Power and depth are connected when assessing the outcome of a shot, as you become a very good player you quickly realize depth is more important than power.
There is a sweet spot where it is difficult to hit before the back wall and it will not come off the back wall enough to hit comfortably, master this depth and you are recognized as a great player.
Perfect depth will vary depending on the court conditions such as the bounce off the walls and the temperature on the court and the harder and lower you hit the smaller this perfect length target becomes.
Lastly consistency is the best indicator with top PSA players seemingly relentlessly hitting quality depth target and rarely missing by much and squash is a game where in each rally you are only as good as your worst shot.
The good news is that if you become proficient at hitting quality depth you will win more free points.

Indeed hitting without purpose amounts to tiring yourself unnecessarily and the opponent will make sure every wrong shot played goes to where it would hurt the most. Any game or move made without a purpose opens chances for the opponent to strike effectively
