  • I say this as a diehard UNC fan: The rivalry could not have become what it was without Coach K. Fans who only show hate don't seem to understand that they can't claim the greatest rivalry in sports if your rival isn't worthy of greatness. Rivalry emotions aside, respect is due. Congrats to K on a stellar career. I wish him the best in his retirement.

    @dimesinger@dimesinger2 жыл бұрын
    • I love rivalries. I disdain bad sportsmanship. which many of his players have exhibited over the years. And he watched on the sidelines as they did it. Coincidence only carries one so far. Sorry. Not on board the K train.

    • The greatest rivalries are those in which there is a clear mutual respect on both sides

      @menelikkkk@menelikkkk2 жыл бұрын
    • @@crashcorrigan9733 Fair enough. For me, respect isn't at all the same as loving, liking, or condoning all the aspects who someone is or what they've done. I respect all kinds of people I don't like or agree with. I just think UNC-Duke isn't what it is without Coach K, in the same way it isn't what it is without Dean and Roy. For me, it's incoherent to brag about having the greatest rivalry (which I and many fans do) if both rivals aren't at the top of the game, and whether I like it or not Duke isn't at the top without Coach K.

He let his family be a part of so much and they were the reason he was as successful as he was! • In 1991 I moved 1000 miles away from home in Texas, to work at a start up Maintenance facility in Greensboro NC. We became the #1 Aviation MRO in the country within 2 years. During that time period, I was introduced to the game of College Basketball. Most of the guys at work were UNC fans. While watching the games after work during the season, I became enthralled by Coach K. His intensity and demeanor just astounded me. Then, in the Big Dance I watched Laettner make 'The Shot' against Kentucky on TV as it happened. It was a done deal. Duke Basketball fan forever. This coach inspired me to be better, try harder, work through the pain, keep going, never stop. I don't even play basketball. Just watching from the living room or whatever bar I was in at the time Coach K was just so involved and on top of it. It's really hard to explain the influence he has even not being in his presence but only on TV. I felt his emotion remotely. He has impacted thousands of people literally with his unique way of motivation. Mike Krzyzewski will always live in my heart as the Champion of not only basketball, but life in general.

No real fan of basketball can deny the greatness of K, his legacy, and far reaching impact he has made on the game. He’s changed so many lives, and this game for the better. Thank you Coach for who you are, and for making the game better. This rivalry is so epic, and it is wasn’t possible without you. Wishing you and your family nothing but the best in retirement. I have no doubt that the legacy you have, will continue on into the future of Duke Basketball.

  • It's the end of an era of NC college basketball, the ACC and the NCAA. As a Tar Heel fan, I tip my hat to Coach K. Without him, I honestly believe that Duke vs. UNC rivalry would not be as intense as it has been. I remember that '92 Championship. I was in high school liking both UNC and Duke. What can I say, I lived Grant Hill and Christian Laettner. I have no memory of any other Duke coach. I hope he enjoys retirement and writes a memoir like Dean Smith. I would read about his life. Great job Coach.

  • Coach K and Duke delivered a robust and extra generous gift to North Carolina basketball with the farewell tour . His last game at Cameron enabled the Tar Heels to decisively defeat him and claim an extra special prize of knowing they were the last team to slam dunk him at home. The opportunity to walk out of Cameron with that win represents it's own sentimental achievement. I think all of Carolina can say they dearly love to beat Coach K.

That’s interesting, since John Wooden won 10 NCAA Championships, seven of them in a row, had four undefeated teams, something Coach K never did once, and won 88 straight games with UCLA. Coach K is fortunate he never had to coach against John Wooden, for he would have suffered the same fate as every other coach who had the misfortune of facing Wooden, and lost. It is not even debatable who the greatest coach of all time is. There is John Wooden, and then everybody else.

    • @@morrisritchie8125 Morris, have you even though of researching the time and teams that Wooden coached, go back and pay closer attention, John Wooden was alive during the height of Coach K's road to greatness and he even had the highest of praise for Coach K and respected the military background and said that was one of the things Coach brought to his ideology of coaching. Again, please do some research before you make an inane comment!
