Bushcraft for Beginners | How to start a fire in rain or snow with a handheld featherstick

Welcome to Silent Outdoors Bushcraft for Beginners. In this video you learn how to start a fire in wet weather or snow. So be carefull, this hand held featherstick could safe your life.
First, look for a dead small tree or a fallen tree whose branches are in the air and not resting on the ground!
You also need to search for reasonably dry kindling to feed your fire. Spruce and pine are very suitable for this purpose. Look for the dead small branches under the large limbs on standing trees or, as in this case, take steeply upward-facing small branches. The crackling you hear is a sign that the wood is dry..
To access the dry interior, you need to split the wood. If the knife is relatively small, there's a little trick. Flip the knife over and secure the tip against a tree stump. Now you can baton the branch to be split very effectively with a wooden stick, despite having a small knife.
Now, cut small feathers from the wood and try to rotate the wood to make nice shavings.
Finally, Silent Outdoors flip the knive over and use the sharp spine of the blade. With it, he scrap fine wood dust to make it easier to ignite his feathersticks later.
Now, with your thumb, secure the firesteel to the wood. The end of the firesteel should be positioned quite close to the wood dust. Hold your firesteel firmly to prevent it from slipping.
Once you have a flame, feed it initially with small twigs. Then gradually add larger sticks from your collected wood.
