  • I knew someone who I went to school with who was an active Latin king. I last saw him when we graduated and the last thing he said to me was “you’re gonna see me on tv one day, stay safe bro I’ll see you” 5 weeks later he was shot in the face and died by a rival gang. Sure enough it was on the morning news. It’s sad, he left behind his girlfriend and his 1 year old boy. It’s very unfortunate he didn’t stop even after having a child, we all just want to live peacefully day by day.

He told them “you can do whatever you want, just no gang signs” and they respected him. Nowadays, there’s too much animosity and morals have left the street scene so that would never fly.

I also was encouraged and loved playing sports so that also helped.

    • But as far as getting robbed, you don’t run a business on the side of the street in a “hood” “favela” “barrio” and expect not to be robbed at some point. Regardless of what “race” the gangster is. They run from their country to escape violence and poverty just to come to another dangerous country with violence and poverty. The violence is just less extreme in most states here as it can get in central and South America. But being racist towards your other people because of a language/culture barrier won’t help.

  • The Latin Kings were founded in the Humboldt Park area of Chicago in 1954 by Ramon Santos as the Imperials, a Puerto Rican progress movement with the goal of overcoming racial discrimination. With the Latino community facing constant violence from Greek and Italian greaser gangs, the Imperials merged with various other Puerto Rican and Mexican street gangs to form the Latin Kings. They would later devolve, because Mexicans turned it into a criminal enterprise operating throughout the United States.
