    • You are doing well. Most importantly you are not afraid to talk. Try to find either texts for learners or children's books with stress marks. English speakers tend to automatically put stress on the wrong syllable but the stress is quite important for understanding the spoken Russian language. Overall your pronunciation is quite decent but you need to work on some letter combinations, for example you are pronouncing З in ЖИЗНЬ as Ж. There are sites where you can listen to native speakers pronouncing every word, e.g. forvo.

    • A couple of examples.... The ancestor of the great Russian poet Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov was George Lermont, who left Scotland in the early 17th century and joined the army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. His service there was short-lived because he was taken prisoner by soldiers of Tsarist Russia. He was then recruited by the first Tsar of the Romanov dynasty, Mikhail Fedorovich, and Lermont finally settled in Russia ... One of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War of 1812 with Napoleon is a Scotsman Count Mikhail Bogdanovich Barclay de Tolly (Michael Andreas Barclay de Tolly) - Minister of War (January 1810 - August 1812), Field Marshal General (since 1814). The second (after Kutuzov) full Knight of the Order of St. George. From the spring of 1812 he was commander of the 1st Western Army. He actually performed the duties of Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Army at the beginning of the Patriotic War of 1812, from the departure of Alexander I from the army to the appointment of M. I. Kutuzov. In the foreign campaign of the Russian army in 1813-1814, he commanded the combined Russian-Prussian army as part of the Allied forces under a common command...

  • As a language teacher myself - I'd say your teacher (who's absolutely stunning btw) could work on her methodology a bit more, that would boost the quality of your lessons and your progress immensely. Yeap, learning russian involves much more grammar practice and drilling than say learning English, but even that can be done methodologically right. As a native speaker - I'd say you are doing fine and simply going over all the classic mistakes of an english speaker learning russian.) It gets better eventually. I promise. More input, fewer translation tasks (you do it enough anyways when you are out and about in the city, in fact), taking and mastering just one possible verb of many till it's polished would help alot too (like with идти & ходить) Good luck!

Of course you make a lot of mistakes, but, i imagine, she builds your knowledge on your practice, it's the way to learn, in my mind. I'd say you're 70% there to Bald and Bankrupt's level, and it's mostly vocabulary you're lacking in comparison, so you'll be able to fend for yourself in the wild in no time.

  • thankyou I need a new teacher, started years ago and found once I had the alphabet I could read the words, its the meaning that has me stumped as there is no-one to correct pronunciation and no-one to talk to so I have an excersise book with words and meanings and putting a sentence together just is so difficult so I shelved it and stopped practising...you inspired me to begin again....I found that when in countries I cannot speak the language another sense kicks in and an absorption of the aura of the people with a love for them kicks in and the language was no barrier, we managed to communicate, that was the Arabic speaking nations I love as well as Russia, I have work to do in those nations, important work, I volunteer my time freely however I have no resources or backup to take me where I need to go.... I believe God will open a way to fulfill what has been entrusted on my heart to deliver...it has meant total alienation from all family member who see me as dead...I want to live in a country with a heart for truth and goodness...thank you, somehow I will find a way....to Russia with love.

What would you tell someone who's never been to Moscow and is planning to go? How would you find a place to stay? Where what bank/phone service do you recommend? Is there some kind of welcome service that helps you get integrated into the community, etc etc. There's lots of videos out there for people who are thinking about going to Russia, but not so many for the people who know they are going and need to start thinking about the logistics.

  • You're okay for your level of speaking. The two most prominent things, which give you away are the slowness of your speech (let me clarify again, it's totally okay for your level, just keep working) and the specific English sentence structures we're not using in Russian (e.g. "to be" where it's not needed). And yeah, nobody likes tons of grammar in foreign languages 😃, but it's nice to have at least some to express yourself more precisely.

    @dansadler@dansadler7 күн бұрын
  • Well done! I am not an expert of the language, but I will give you feedback as a hobbyist. Firstly, keep up with the lessons and conversation exercises. The more you speak, the better you will get. Second point, your pronunciation is a little off, it is not a big problem as it is understandable. But if you want your speech to sound clearer pay attention to Russian phonetics and how each letter is pronounced. Third, learn the phrases and words that you need and use regularly in daily life and the grammar to go along with it. For example, when you go shopping study the phrases related to the activity and the genitive case for numbers. If you do not know the word for something in Russian just ask как сказать "the word in English" по-русски? Good luck, and let us know how you are progressing.

  • При изучении русского языка самое главное не углубляться в грамматику и правила - это не под силам и многим носителям иногда, ахахах Забьете голову тысячами исключений и правил, которые понадобятся только если вы хотите войну и мир пересоченить. бОльшую часть лучше посветить именно словарю и разговорной речи. Грубо говоря какие-нибудь падежи стоит учить чуть ли не в последнюю очередь

  • You speak Russian well, your accent is slight, your pronunciation is intelligible. You just need to know more words and practice more and you will be able to speak Russian fluently. That's for sure👌
